Christopher M. Penalver,

it was a single unexpected Xorg crash in Precise,
so it's non-informative and no longer reproducible.

Please let it stay as a duplicate of bug 946008.

2012-06-12 Thread Bob Bib
 Does disabling synaptic help ?
aneesh-kumar,
if you disable Synaptics driver, then you'll probable need to use an external
mouse instead of your touchpad.
---
 I'm using the mainstream kernel for now. It's rock solid.
hughperkins,
Xorg (and its drivers) have nothing to do with Linux kernel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 970438] Re: Mouse pointer stops responding without known trigger

2012-06-02 Thread Bob Bib
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.6.0-0ubuntu1~precise1

The touchpad began to work decently.
With multiple X sessions opened, after switching from one to another, the
pointer becomes responsive in less than 5 seconds.
---
I think it's fixed as for now; reopen the bug if you still experience a
problematic touchpad behaviour.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 970438] Re: Mouse pointer stops responding without known trigger

2012-04-30 Thread Bob Bib
** Description changed:

  Hey everybody
- I have an acer laptop model acer 3810t
+ I have an acer laptop model acer as3810t
  The problem I'm experiencing has been present since ubuntu 11.04 up to 12.04
beta2
  the thing is that sometimes - out of nowhere (completely random. seems not
related to anything) the trackpad stops responding and requires a reboot
  sometimes it stops responding a minute after I login
  and sometimes days can pass without me experiencing the problem.
  I have no idea what causes it. I haven't seen other similar bug reports.
  I believe that it is an ubuntu issue since I'm also an arch linux user. the
problem didn't appear on arch.

  thanks!

  I'll happily send further info.
- ---
+ ---
+ WORKAROUND:
+ 1) switch to the console session (e.g., press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and input
your login  password as prompted);
+ 2) reload the PS/2 kernel module:
+ sudo modprobe -r psmouse sudo modprobe psmouse
+ 3) try to exit the console session and switch to the graphic terminal (e.g.,
press Alt+F7 or Alt+F8 if VT7 is black).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 970438] Re: Mouse pointer stops responding without known trigger

2012-04-13 Thread Bob Bib
mouse pointer (of my Acer's AS3810T Synaptics touchpad) freezes every time I do
the following things:
1) select Switch from user... (in GNOME fallback session, from the session
menu);
2) at the LightDM screen I log in another user (e. g. Guest);
mouse cursor works in that another user session, but after switching back to
the 1st user I discover the frozen pointer;
to unfreeze it, I need to log out from the user session (using keyboard only:
Ctrl+Alt+Del and select Log Out) and log in again (sometimes, but not
every time, suspend resume helps, so I don't need to log out).
---
Do you have any ideas how I can help? Should I look at some logs?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 970438] Re: Mouse pointer stops responding without known trigger

2012-04-09 Thread Bob Bib
In my case, touchpad hangup occurs in Precise more often than in Oneiric, Natty
etc.
Interestingly, it unfreezes after suspend resume.
---
ohad-basan, there has been a suspend/resume workaround for a quite long time:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireTimeline/Fixes#Suspend_to_RAM -- just
add a i8042.reset=1 kernel option into /etc/default/grub
