[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1783404] [NEW] unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000230
Public bug reported: About a week and a half ago I would lose rendering of the desktop randomly while under a Wayland session. I would have the last displayed images on my monitor, mouse movement worked, video and audio still workedd, but visual feedback was lost when clicking on items in the browser or last app opened. Spacebar would work fine to pause a video, or media keys to stop the music player. I've been trying to hunt down the reason until I realised that I might be running under Wayland instead of Xorg. I changed the configuration option in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf to disable Wayland and enabled debugging and restarted. I was away from my desk earlier when I logged, in a few minutes later the screen went black, as if it went into power saving mode. Unlike the Wayland sessions I wasn't able to get to any TTY's. Upon restarting I noticed the following, which wasn't present in the previous journal under Wayland (see attached - to large for description field). At this point, this seems to be occurring randomly. I'm happy to help with debugging if need be. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1135473] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2 mesa] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x7a000002 IPEHR: 0x0b140001
I'm getting lockups a few times a day now on 12.10. From the syslog today I got: Mar 25 15:30:29 hostname kernel: [22367.850510] [drm:i915_hangcheck_hung] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung Mar 25 15:30:29 hostname kernel: [22367.850880] [drm] Enabling RC6 states: RC6 on, RC6p off, RC6pp off I also got this message prior to the above error messages: Mar 25 15:18:45 tank kernel: [21664.359940] ACPI Error: No handler for Region [CMS0] (880159a31558) [SystemCMOS] (20120320/evregion-376) Mar 25 15:18:45 tank kernel: [21664.359956] ACPI Error: Region SystemCMOS (ID=5) has no handler (20120320/exfldio-306) Mar 25 15:18:45 tank kernel: [21664.359970] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.LPCB.EC0_._Q33] (Node 880159a3cde8), AE_NOT_EXIST (20120320/psparse-536) I have installed acpi-rtc-dkms_1.0_all.deb as this fixed the above ACPI Error last time. What is worse is that apport seems to be failing at submitting the data as I have the dialog box about a gpu hang popup four or five times within two to three minutes. I choose the desired frequency and then click next and it starts all over again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1135473 Title: [sandybridge-m-gt2 mesa] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x7a02 IPEHR: 0x0b140001 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1135473/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Regarding apport, the problem was a missing python package: python- launchpadlib. I have run into another problem with apport: TypeError: 'unicode' does not have the buffer interface. Public bug reported: I get a GPU hang once in a while. This normally occurs if I am using Virtualbox or, like today, when I use radmin. I normally restart the lightdm service to rectify the issue if X display is locked up for more than 5 minutes. Using the xbacklight tool the actual values for 0-100% is actually 0%, 20%, 60% 100%. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 854185] [NEW] Logon screen black
Public bug reported: This might be related to bug #525038. When starting up, the screen goes black (actually it looks like the backlight is not on) either instantly when plymouth starts or a few seconds after. The login screen appears, I typed my password and the screen is still black after logging in. However, if I press F2 (decrease brightness) or F3 (increase brightness), not Fn + F2 or F3, then the display will come back on instantly. If I increase the brightness to its maximum setting and then decrease the brightness to the minimum setting using F2 F3 respectively, I get the same effect when plymouth starts (no backlight). The brightness indicator that ubuntu shows when adjusting the brightness gives me only four levels going from 100% to 0%: 0 = 100% Brightness 1 = 60% Brightness 2 = 15% Brightness 3 = No backlight; and 3 levels when going from 0% to 100% 0 = 40% 1 = 80% 2 = 100% That's all the info I can give for now. If I wanted to get the Fn key working what package would I report that against?
