[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 891898] [NEW] Massively different touchpad acceleration in y than x, when two monitors connected in vertical orientation

2011-11-17 Thread Carey Underwood
Public bug reported:

When connecting an external monitor to my netbook, I have to use a
vertical orientation of screens in order to retain acceleration. In
this setup, I also use an external mouse and keyboard. They work fine.

The laptop's touchpad however becomes weird to use: vertical movement
is massively exaggerated. I'd say a given movement in the y dimension
will move the cursor about 3 times as far as the same movement
horizontally.

This makes it much more difficult to target window decorations, url
bars, and so forth (including the menu bar of the lower screen, which no
longer has a screen edge to act as a backstop for the cursor).

This started occurring some time in the last week or two, and I install
updates (including from -proposed) every week or so.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 520250] Re: steelseries xai laser mouse detected as keyboard, doesn't function

2010-02-10 Thread Carey Underwood
Updating the firmware in the mouse from a windows machine got things
working when plugged back into linux. Contacted the manufacturer, as
their website explicitly mentions their willingness to assist community
efforts to develop linux support.

from http://faq.steelseries.com/questions/19/

Unfortunately we do not have any plans to develop proprietary Linux drivers
anytime soon for the WoW Mouse, but we would happily assist any
community-driven efforts to develop an open-source solution for
Linux.community-driven efforts to develop an open-source solution for Linux.

If you are aware of such efforts or would like to contribute, then please file
a support ticket.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 501018] [NEW] LCD backlight won't stay off

2009-12-28 Thread Carey Underwood
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Currently on lucid beta, also experienced this on karmic for sure and
possibly earlier.

Gnome's screensaver is off, and power management is set to turn off the
monitor after ten minutes.

xset dpms force off turns off the screen and backlight for
approximately a minute, before the display turns back on. Seemingly
randomly, the 10 minute timer only blanks the screen rather than also
turning off the backlight. This occurs under metacity and compiz.

This is a single lcd on an intel-video laptop; I also see seemingly
identical symptom on two desktops with nvidia video cards running dual-
head desktops under both metacity and compiz (proprietary driver, under
karmic and jaunty), and on a singleheaded radeon 9250 (open driver,
karmic), (1) where the display's may be sit for days without turning off
the backlight despite the power options being configured, (2) xset dpms
force off turning the backlight off, and then back on to a full display
after a minute or so.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 382884] Re: [KMS] [GM945]: Xorg hang after resume from suspend

2009-06-02 Thread Carey Underwood
After running intel_gpu_dump after resuming, I switch vt's back to X,
and experienced the same symptoms (locked up, touchpad could move mouse
cursor, external mouse could not, system not responsive to vt changing,
could still ssh into it, sysrq's were responded to).
