[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1646253] [NEW] I am getting frequent DRM hangs while playing Cities: Skylines from Steam

2016-11-30 Thread Clint Byrum
Public bug reported:

It happens during normal gameplay. Have tried reducing settings. Seems
like a legitimate driver bug. The program crashes, but X does not.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1152304] [NEW] Sometimes key presses get stuck leading to repeated characters

2013-03-07 Thread Clint Byrum
Public bug reported:

Since updating to raring from quantal, two of my machines (a MacBookPro
5,1 and a MacBookAir 4,1) have exhibited this behavior. It seems to be
more of a problem the faster I type, but that just increases the
frequency of keypresses. Ocassionally while typing a key that I have
pressed seems to stay stuck down and further input while that is going
on is missed. The character repeats maybe 10 times, and then everything
is back to normal.

I don't have a way to reproduce this reliably, sometimes there are many
hours between seeing it.

One data point I do have is that it even happens when using synergy to
control the raring box from a quantal machine, which is why I am
reporting this against xorg and not the kernel where it might be
construed as a USB or keyboard issue.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1078401] Re: conflict with x11-apps/transset; remove transset from the archive

2013-01-23 Thread Clint Byrum
Hello Markus, or anyone else affected,

Accepted x11-apps into quantal-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/x11-apps/7.7~2ubuntu1.1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Thank you in
advance!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1056511] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in memcpy() from NVRefreshArea()

2012-11-29 Thread Clint Byrum
Maarten thanks for the response re the two missing changes. Based on
your feedback (that the kwin fix can be reverted) I'm rejecting the
upload of 1:1.0.3-0ubuntu0.1

The next step is to upload again, minus the kwin fix, and with a bug
reference in the changelog about the vblank. Since it seems untestable,
just document that fact and recommend a test plan to verify vblank still
works in said bug report.

Thanks for being patient and dilligent on this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1023184] Re: libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0 should create a libtxc_dxtn.so file to help MESA choose (breaks some Wine apps)

2012-07-25 Thread Clint Byrum
Hello Scott, or anyone else affected,

Accepted s2tc into precise-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/s2tc/0~git20110809-2.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

** Description changed:

+ [TEST CASE]
+ See bug #1012266 , same test case applies
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ See bug #1012266
+
+ -
+
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31161 points to a packaging bug,
either in Ubuntu's s2tc or mesa

  Relevant quote:
-

Note that Wine needs the 32-bit version of that package though.

Actually I had it installed. But it seems like there is a bug in ubuntu i386
package. I had to create a proper symbolic link:

  sudo ln -s libtxc_dxtn_s2tc.so.0 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libtxc_dxtn.so

Now I can see the menu.

  To summarize:

  1) If you're using opensource graphics drivers, you have to install
  libtxc-dxtn-s2tc
  2) make sure you have libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0:i386 installed.
  3) run with MESA_DEBUG=1 to see if there are warning couldn't open
  libtxc_dxtn.so
  4) If you're in Ubuntu 12.04 rewrite a link
  /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libtxc_dxtn.so to point to
  /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libtxc_dxtn_s2tc.so.0

Hopefully, this thread will help somebody.

Hello! This bug is attached to an upload in the queue for precise-
proposed. However, it does not contain the requisite fields for the SRU
team to process the upload. Please add them per the process outlined
here. To be more succinct, make sure the bug description lists these
fields: Impact, Dev Fix, Stable Fix, Regression Potential, Test case.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure

The upload will likely not be looked at by the SRU team until these
fields are present.

Thank you!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936552] Re: MacBookAir 4, 1 trackpad does not work with evdev/multitouch driver

2012-04-18 Thread Clint Byrum
Spoke too soon. I just did a reboot and had no trackpad.

Still looks like lightdm just starts a tiny bit too soon, before some
bits of the hardware are initialized. Its likely a specific set of udev
events needs to be looked for that represents the sum total of input
devices being initialized.

Adding 'and stopped udevtrigger' to the start on conditions seems to
have solved the problem without any sleeps. This might also be the fix
for bug # 969489, which might suggest that the whole thing is related.

2012-03-03 Thread Clint Byrum
More testing has revealed this to be some kind of race condition I
think. I can now fix the problem by switching to tty1 and restarting
lightdm.

Diffing the two log files reveals a massive difference between first-
boot Xorg.0.log and Xorg.0.log.old. I will attach both files. The
interesting part, to me, is here (old is the failed file):

This looks like perhaps udev isn't done reporting all of the devices and so the
keyboard and/or trackpad ends up being detected improperly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936552] Re: MacBookAir 4, 1 trackpad does not work with evdev/multitouch driver

2012-03-03 Thread Clint Byrum
Well I've at least found a workaround. I added 'udevadm settle' right
before the 'exec lightdm' in /etc/init/lightdm.conf. As long as that is
in place, I do not experience this issue.

So, I think this is an issue with boot speed. My machine has almost
nothing installed beyond the default, and boots from grub - lightdm in
about 5 - 8 seconds. That might explain why you don't see it Seth if you
have more things starting at bootup, as that may be enough to delay X
long enough for udev to be available.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936552] Re: MacBookAir 4, 1 trackpad does not work with evdev/multitouch driver

2012-03-02 Thread Clint Byrum
Update.. so now everything works fine with the synaptics driver, no boot
to 3.2.1 or 3.2.6 required. I suspect this was an xorg problem all
along.

If I remove xserver-xorg-input-synaptics then the trackpad stops working
(and oddly enough, the keyboard becomes really hard to use if X is
running.. very hard to describe, but keypresses are lost). In my
experience, the synaptics driver is really bad at palm detection, so I
am not really happy about having to use it, but at this point, its my
only option.

Redirecting to xorg. Thanks everyone for the help thus far.

** Summary changed:

- MacBookAir 4,1 trackpad does not work with synaptics driver until boot into
3.2.1 kernel
+ MacBookAir 4,1 trackpad does not work with evdev/multitouch driver

** Package changed: linux (Ubuntu) = xorg (Ubuntu)

open gnome-terminal

un-minimize

expect to see gnome-terminal, instead I see a white square where it

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936782] [NEW] No longer working in precise

2012-02-20 Thread Clint Byrum
Public bug reported:

This driver, IMO, is far superior to the synaptics driver. I have far
more accidental clicks with the synaptics driver, and two finger
scrolling, three finger taps, etc, all worked great with the mtrack
driver.

The recent Xorg upgrade seems to have disabled the mtrack driver... I
had to remove it and install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics to get
trackpad functionality again. Perhaps mtrack should be considered as a
better replacement for synaptics, or synaptics blacklisted for Apple
Trackpads in favor of whatever else works but does not suffer from
nearly crippling palm-induced taps.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 921941] Re: No way for user to know that mtrack module is needed on upgrade to latest xorg with Apple trackpad

2012-02-02 Thread Clint Byrum
Excerpts from Robert Hooker's message of Fri Feb 03 01:04:39 UTC 2012:
Were you specifying using the mtrack driver in xorg.conf? This is
expected behavior if so is why I ask, and there is no useful information
 attached to the bug here..

I am, though I'm not sure why. Perhaps it was the wonky post-release
helper script I ran to get 11.10 working on this machine.

I'll try going back to the minimial xorg.conf and see if things just
work without mtrack. Once installed though, everything has worked
quite well.

I'd agree with the Won't Fix status either way.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 921941] [NEW] No way for user to know that mtrack module is needed on upgrade to latest xorg with Apple trackpad

2012-01-25 Thread Clint Byrum
Public bug reported:

After the latest dist-upgrade, my apple trackpad on my macbook air 4,1
stopped working.

I had to read through /var/log/Xorg.0.log to find out that the mtrack
module was missing on the latest dist-upgrade to get the new Xorg.

Upon installing xorg-xserver-input-mtrack , my trackpad started working
again.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813343] Re: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black

2011-10-07 Thread Clint Byrum
Excerpts from Bryce Harrington's message of Fri Oct 07 08:46:31 UTC 2011:
@Clint, can you confirm you're no longer having the black screen issue,
and that this bug report can be closed?

 Also  interested in if the corruption during transition still occurs;
 you're right it's probably a separate bug.

The issue is entirely resolved for me in Oneiric.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813343] Re: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black

2011-09-27 Thread Clint Byrum
I just wanted to note that I no longer have the covered by black problem
in 11.10 beta2, however I still do have issues when adding/removing
monitors to TwinView. They're mostly visual corruption that go away once
the transition is over. I suspect these are different issues than the one
reported here though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 853460] [NEW] Visual corruption on resume from suspend in all windows (compiz --replace eliminates it)

2011-09-18 Thread Clint Byrum
Public bug reported:

Every time I suspend/resume my MacBookPro 5,1 in oneiric I get visual
corruption (will attach screenshot). Running 'compiz --replace' fixes
it. Reporting against xorg as I can't believe this is entirely compiz's
fault and xorg is the general spot. It may also be a problem with the
nvidia proprietary drivers. I'd try nouveau but it doesn't work at all
with this laptop.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813343] Re: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black

2011-09-14 Thread Clint Byrum
Excerpts from Jay Taoko's message of Wed Sep 14 15:52:12 UTC 2011:
I will mark this as invalid, as I suspect a bug in Nvidia TwinView. Re-
open if there are more information to suggest otherwise.

I did actually have a more positive experience when disabling the second
monitor today with all updates applied. I was in a hurry and not able to
re-enable the second monitor, but will do so tonight when I return home.

Still not sure if your experience alone is enough to change from Confirmed
- Invalid, since you were never affected AFAIK.
