[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1079096] Re: Xephyr does not have GLX

Confirmed to regress on i386 as well, if ever there was a doubt. The
precise package does restore GLX compatibility on quantal.

llvmpipe will not be considered as a proper rendering stack by default
(it works with caveats and for testing purposes). This is to avoid
further duplicates of this bug. See #926859 for reference.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 932900] Re: Unity freeze, crashes when trying to restart

Right, it's most probably a driver issue intel_do_flush_locked failed:
Input/output error.

We could add that to the xorg bug list, but Bryce will ask for a
reproducible test case i guess.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 830949] Re: [Intel N10 Graphics] Need Compiz' Copy to Texture plugin so can display on multi-head layouts bigger than the max GL texture size

2012-01-19 Thread David Barth
The code for this plugin had not been thoroughly tested and enabling it
without enough user feedback was considered risky. There were a lot of
compiz issues at the time. This one had a lower priority unfortunately.

Sam confirms btw that there is no pre-requisite for this plugin. The
easiest solution to validate it before the change is committed is for
user of N10 systems to activate and confirm that the plugin does allow
them to drive a multi-head setup.

2012-01-19 Thread David Barth
To verify that the plugin works:
1. Call 'ccsm' on the command line to load the configuration tool, look for
'texture' and you should see the 'Copy to texture' plugin
2. Enable the plugin
3. Restart your session

Now, to verify that multi-head works you will need to use the 'xrandr'
command as mentioned by Chris in comment #13

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676166] Re: Screen corruption when resuming from suspend/hibernate

Talking with Jason, the bug is confirmed to be really nvidia specific,
and the only safe workaround from a unity perspective is to restart the
window manager to ensure textures AND GL windows are properly
reassigned/reallocated.

That's outside of unity's scope - marked invalid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 785308] [NEW] Crash while working within Unity or Mumble

2011-05-19 Thread David Barth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Not sure if Unity/Compiz is pushing the driver to its limits or whether Mumble
is doing something really bad.
But i got this crasher twice today, when using the 3 of those components
together. I don't have a reproducible way of triggering the crash though.

Here is what I found in the logs:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 785310] [NEW] Xserver crash when using Unity/Compiz Mumble

2011-05-19 Thread David Barth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Not sure if Unity/Compiz is pushing the driver to its limits or whether Mumble
is doing something really bad.
But i got this crasher twice today, when using the 3 of those components
together. I don't have a reproducible way of triggering the crash though.

Here is what I found in the logs:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 730476] Re: Part of the time appears cut off when displaying the day of the week and date

2011-03-28 Thread David Barth
It more sounds like a formatting problem that makes the indicator extend
outside the limits of it's requested display area. Indicators can
provide a template to help the panel allocate space for the worst case
scenario. But in this case, it seems it outran the XX:XX template.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 669417] Re: [Intel GMA500] Visual glitches and crash (Maverick and Natty)

GMA500 doesn't qualify for the kind of HW requirements we defined for
Unity. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopExperienceTeam/UnityHardwareRequirements
for reference.

So, with that said, I think we can drop this bug off the list.

If you need need the patch built into a package, I've stuck it in a PPA for
 you:
 https://launchpad.net/~bryce/+archive/bug691653

It usually takes several hours for mesa builds to complete in the PPAs,
 so check back later.
Awesome, thanks! I've switched the glx and dri packages to those new
builds (along with the dbg ones). So far so good...

David

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 628727] Re: Screen corruption make UNE unusable

2010-12-10 Thread David Barth
This really depends on the type of card. I have an ati here as well and can
reproduce the rendering corruption. So this is not a Unity bug as much as it is
a driver rendering issue.
I'm keeping it open on Unity to keep the issue on the radar, but really handing
that over to Bryce and Chris to see how they can help with the driver problem.
