[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 841792] [NEW] Enabling/disabling secondary screen is flaky/unstable
Public bug reported: I've been enabling/disabling a secondary screen a few times back and forth and the result is rather flaky/unstable. This is what happens when I press apply: * In best case, I get a strange screen (artifacts all over) for ~15 seconds, then the real screen reappears, asking me whether I want to confirm or return to previous settings (and the usual timeout). * Sometimes I get a strange screen for all 30 seconds and then it reverts. * Sometimes nothing happens at all. * Sometimes the computer locks up hard with a black screen. * One time I also got an error saying that it failed to set Metamode 1920x1200 on Xscreen 0. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 544836] [NEW] Slow boot performance
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I'm not certain xorg is to blame for this, but I needed some place to start. So, after having entered my password in gdm, I'm left with just the Ubuntu desktop background for approx 20 s, before the top menu shows up. During that time my hard drive is idle. This makes boot performance worse than Karmic, where this delay did not exist (or possibly just a few seconds). But still I assume it's better than Windows Vista ;-) ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Tue Mar 23 08:00:06 2010 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 DkmsStatus: Error: [Errno 2] Filen eller katalogen finns inte InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx - Alpha amd64 (20091209) MachineType: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 518309] Re: Xorg freeze
When booting 2.6.32-12, most of the times, no ubuntu splash screen is shown. A (movable) mouse pointer shows up after a while, and a small line (cursor) in the upper left corner. I then switch to a VT with Ctrl- Alt-F1 (and reported this bug). If I after that switch back with Ctrl- Alt-F7, the gdm login screen is shown, but when I try to login (after entered password and pressed ok) the system locks up hard. when booting 2.6.32-11, this problem does not occur, so I'm unsure whether xorg or linux is the correct package for this one. ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Xorg freeze https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518309 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 448299] Re: changing to terminal shows garbage ATI 4870, 4550 [RV770] [RV710]
On Karmic beta liveCD, the bug is not present, there I can successfully switch to a VT with Ctrl-Alt-F1. So this nails it down to three cases: 1) There is a difference between beta and present 2) There is a difference between liveCD and permanent installation 3) We have all unknowingly changed our configuration in a way that makes the bug appear. For case 3, I did try the restricted fglrx drivers, which I then uninstalled later. The installation/uninstallation was done through jockey (system - admin - proprietary drivers). Also, at boot time, during a few seconds, I get a screen showing blue pixels in the middle of the screen. This was not present on the live-CD either, and I think it was not present at the first times I booted the permanent installation either. It's hard to know if it is related, but if it is, it rules out case 2. Case 1 could be confirmed or ruled out using a daily-live CD. Would be interesting to know if you have similar experiences. -- changing to terminal shows garbage ATI 4870, 4550 [RV770] [RV710] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/448299 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
