[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1876992] Re: X11 session crash on using Gimp or LibreOffice

2020-05-07 Thread David White
Reviewing bug 1868519, it certainly matches the situation. Mouse
movement is the trigger for the crash. For gimp it's moving the mouse
after opening or creating an image. For Libreoffice it's beginning to
use the crop tool, which is also a mouse movement.

2020-05-07 Thread David White
One issue here is that it doesn't always produce a crash file.

2020-05-07 Thread David White
Well. It's easy to cause the crash. Open Gimp, create a new image, move
mouse. I'll upload some more crash files.

On a Ubuntu session this then ends the session and it drops back to the
login screen. I tried on a classic Gnome desktop and it froze the
desktop resulting in requiring a forced reboot using the power key.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875645] Re: Graphics corruption on shell on login screen and session screen

2020-04-29 Thread David White
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1867668 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1867668

Thanks Daniel. I uninstalled xserver-xorg-video-intel and removed
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf, which sorted all the display
corruption issues.

It looks like there is a problem on the upgrade with leaving this old
driver knocking around - is this going to be sorted for others upgrading
going forwards?

Would you still like me to open a new bug report?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875645] [NEW] Graphics corruption on shell on login screen and session screen

2020-04-28 Thread David White
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 19.10 to 20.04 I am seeing blocky green and purple
artefacts on icons, background images and text. This is visible on the
login screen and once logged in.

Only the "shell" is corrupted and any subsequent changes, such as
changing the background image, are displayed without corruption. The
corruption is random but it is predictable that it will appear on the
launcher icons, background image and shell menu icons and text.

I've tried swapping between available graphics drivers but it makes no
difference.

Text corruption in menus is on particular glyphs selected at random. In
the screen shots, for example, all upper-case and lower-case 'O's are
currupted but on a subsequent reboot the affected glyphs will vary. On
filing this bug I also notice that the pop-up modal password requests
also displayed the corrupted glyphs. No programms run subsequently will
display any problems.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1772865] Re: Right physical button on touchpad does left click.

2018-05-24 Thread David White
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1759300 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1759300

I found a solution. This works for Dell XPS 15 with touchpad with
physical click under the touchpad:

In Ubuntu Settings > Devices > Mouse and touchpad set "Tap to click" to
OFF

In Gnome tweaks > Keyboard & Mouse > Mouse click emulation choose
"Area".

I guess there's some interaction between touchpad touch location and the
physical switch.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1759300 ***

Why are you asking me to follow links discussing track-pad button
emulation? My bug is about physical buttons. The right physical button
(microswitch under the trackpad) is mapped to left-click, the same as
the left physical button. I've turned touch-to-click off entirely.

I was following the instructions you left on the other ticket.

"If your physical buttons (the ones that move independently of the touchpad,
and not just painted on) are not behaving correctly then please log a bug with:

It definitely has physical buttons. The whole track-pad clicks down and
it has a separate left and right physical switches. This isn't the same
bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247061] Re: ctrl+shift+alt+arrow can't move window up or down, only left and right

2014-01-28 Thread David White
Christopher,

In the end I found the keyboard shortcut options via the sytem settings
and found that the keyboard shortcuts for these actions had changed to
something else, which I can't remember now. I set them back to the
default.

If it would help I could run the CD image as a live USB stick on the
machine I had the problem on. Unfortunately I don't have a spare drive
to do an installation. Let me know if that would be helpful.
