i guess rebuilding gnome snaps with proposed on arm64 and testing that

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2037642] [NEW] [FFe] Raspberry Pi 5 support

2023-09-28 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

[ Impact ]

 * HWE for Raspberry Pi 5 https://raspberrypi.com/5

[ Test Plan ]

 * Private builds tested on all existing/supported Raspberry Pi SKUs in
armhf & arm64 variants

 * No regressions on any existing SKUs

 * Test that Raspberry Pi 5 boards work

[ Where problems could occur ]

 * Mesa is upgraded, and there are patches to mesa, the raspberry-pi
specific provider this has been tested but not as extensively.
Separately there is mesa FFe granted to upgrade to latest release, thus
these changes piggy-back on top of it.

 * libcamera has new build-depends on new package libpisp for the
raspberry-pi specific provider which also affects pipewire to provide
full webcam support.

 * These dependencies, will need to make their way into gnome platform
snaps to be usable by default in Firefox.

[ Other Info ]

 * The proposed code changes have been tested in private, prior to
public announcement

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2036611] Re: FFe: Mesa 23.2.0

2023-09-21 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
** Description changed:

Upstream still hasn't released Mesa 23.2.0 (as of Sep 19th) which is
almost seven weeks past it's original release date. But at least we have
an rc3 which is "only" two weeks old. Yes, we are getting close to
mantic release but this series is something we want for Intel Meteor
  Lake support.

This is now fresh in Debian unstable, and has been in Fedora 39 for a
month already without any apparent drama.

Build available at the x-staging ppa
  https://launchpad.net/~canonical-x/+archive/ubuntu/x-staging/+packages
(status: i386 build failed due to an upstream bug, which requires
llvmspirvlib headers to exist even if rusticl OpenCL driver is not enabled)

-
- xnox: Separately to amd64, this new mesa would also be useful on many arm64
platforms with a lot of improvements for RaspberryPi, Ubuntu Concept X13s, and
Apple / Asahi hardware.
+ xnox: Separately to amd64, this new mesa would also be useful on many
+ arm64 platforms with a lot of improvements for RaspberryPi, Ubuntu
+ Concept X13s, and Apple / Asahi hardware.

I strongly request that upgrade of mesa is also considered because of
the Arm platform improvements in Mesa 23.2.0.
+
+ The request is to ship rc, SRU upto final upstream GA .0 release, and
+ enforce SRU policy after that.
+
+ Other distributions are also shipping this Mesa RC largely due to the
+ very same reasons, thus this will align hardware compatiblity and
+ performance with other distributions launching this autumn.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1935082] Re: [MIR] egl-wayland

2021-08-13 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Symbols tracking has been added in
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/egl-wayland/1:1.1.7-2 which is not
migrating as it is stuck behind glibc

ADT test is hard to provide => functional one needs nvidia graphics
cards that are not present in ADT; and compile test is equally hard
given that it is effectively a plugin.

ubuntu-x-swat is now subscribed.

sshd_config is user modifyable and maintained. Some options can be
changed using dpkg-reconfigure openssh-server but otherwise changes to
it should be preserved.

Can you please provide steps to reproduce changes to sshd_config getting
lost?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.

2020-08-17 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
We could use gfxpalyload blacklist, to mark certain nvidia cards there.
And then gfxpayload will not be set to keep, and then vt.handoff will
not be appended.

See grub-gfxpayload-lists package, and files in /usr/share/grub-
gfxpayload-lists/blacklist/

My current preference would be the gdm3 fix. And migrate the rest of the
login managers to tty1 too.

2020-07-13 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Ubuntu no longer uses vt.handover and it should not be specified at all
anymore.

We boot directly to tty1, always and everywhere, and we should not be
setting that at all.

Thus a patch changing that from 7 to 1 is not a good idea for focal+.

And I can't quite remember which releases we have changed to booting to
tty1 by default. Maybe it was bionic, or between xenial and bionic?

why is this filed with "block-proposed" tag? Do you intend to prevent
mesa from migrating or qt? At the moment this bug is blocking qtbase
migration, which is a rebuild against openssl1.1 and I do not see how
that change can be related to this bug report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1590590] Re: Touchpad not recognized on Dell Latitude E7470 Ultrabook

2017-06-20 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Should a fix for this be backported to 16.10 and 16.04?
Are there people who have the relevant hardware available, and are willing to
test the fix on both 16.10 and 16.04?
I do not have the hardware available, thus without available testers I would
not want to upload this fix.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1590590] Re: Touchpad not recognized on Dell Latitude E7470 Ultrabook

2017-03-29 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
As far as I can tell the patch for hwdb sensitivity for Dell Latitude
E7470 is shipped in zesty now.

Is anything else required to have this resolved in zesty? Or hwdb update
is all that is needed here? If that is the case, then we can remove all
the other packages marked as affected and simply SRU the hwdb update.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1655724] [NEW] Should not break systemd in trusty, conflicts with snapd

2017-01-11 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
* With introduction of snapd/systemd in trusty, it has become impossible to
install xorg-server-lts-xenial simultaniously with snapd/systemd.
* In trusty, logind is managed by upstart, and is not restarted on upgrades,
therefore the protective breaks in xorg-server-lts-xenial is unnecessary in
trusty only.

[Testcase]
* installing snapd, should not remove xorg-server-lts-xenial

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1647600] [NEW] Xvfb fails with new mesa, results in ubiquity FTBFS

2016-12-06 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

Expectation:

fakeroot ./debian/rules tests

from ubiquity 17.04.1 package, from zesty-proposed to build
successfully.

It does in zesty-release. It does in zesty-proposed too, if one
downgrades: libgl1-mesa-glx libglapi-mesa

If one uses libgl1-mesa-glx libglapi-mesa from zesty-proposed, the Xvfb
fails to spawn and thus tests fail, and the build fails.

** Summary changed:

- Ubiquity sets Alt+Shift shortcut for layout switching, while installed system
uses Super+Space
+ xkeyboard-config, console-setup, and ubiquity should use Super+Space for
switching keyboard layouts

** Description changed:

+ Super+Space is default combination for switching keyboard layouts in
+ gnome3, unity, Mac OS X, Windows. Thus for consistently, Xorg; console-
+ setup; and ubiquity should also use Super+Space combination for
+ switching keyboard layouts.
+
+ reading xkeyboard-config sources and documentations i don't see that
+ xkeyboard-config can support grp:lwin_space and i guess that needs to be
+ the first step to properly support super+space.
+
+
+ Original bug report below:
+
+
Recently I installed Ubuntu 13.10 and Ubuntu GNOME 13.10.
I use two keyboard layouts - English and Russian.
So I select them on the corresponding screen of ubiquity setup wizard.

It quietly set the keyboard switching shortcut to Alt+Shift and wrote this
setting to /etc/default/keyboard:
  # ...
  XKBMODEL="pc105"
  XKBLAYOUT="us,ru"
  XKBVARIANT=","
  XKBOPTIONS="grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll"
  # ...

On first boot of installed system the small notification pop-up showed
that Ibus will use Super+Space for layout switching.

  Please fix this configuration inconsistency.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1278871] [NEW] please consider making libgl1-mesa-dri to not be pulled into ubuntu-touch seed

2014-02-11 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

>From mesa package: libgbm1 depends on libgl1-mesa-dri

>From qtdeclarative-opensource-src: qtdeclarative5-qtquick2-plugin
depends on libgl1-mesa-dri

Mesa is available on our default installations by virtue of
ubuntu-drivers-common, seeds or manual package selection.
Above two dependencies, result in nvidia & radion packages pulled into
ubuntu-touch seed which is undesired.

Talking on IRC mlankhorst provided a solution, which i'd like to try out:
 depend on libgl1-mesa-dri | libgl1

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1267665] Re: Unable to upgrade Unity due to libxi6 dependency

2014-01-09 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
libxi 2:1.7.1.901-1ubuntu1~precise1 was published in precise-updates
pocket on the 6th of January

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxi/2:1.7.1.901-1ubuntu1~precise1

It appears as if on your system there are non standard pinning levels,
and thus instead of installing from -updates pocket, libxi6 from
-security pocket is installed. (990, 900)

Please note, that generally one does not need to rank -security pocket,
higher than -updates pocket. As security updates always "trump" updates
pocket, by strict version number comparison.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1262860] [NEW] on live session in precise daily images, wrong resolution

2013-12-19 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov

On live session in precise daily images there are resolution bugs in particular:
* the unity-panel & launcher appear to be is squeezed thiner than suppose to

The background appears to be not-distored in the same manner, although
it's hard to tell, given how "abstract" it is.

Screenshot to be attched.

This is using kvm/libvirt with cirrus graphics on a Trusty Tahr host.

Other visible visual corruption is a known & unrelated issue.
