[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763457] Re: please provide opencl-icd virtual package
The required changes are too risky for stable releases, and fall out of scope from both Stable Release Updates [1] and Backports [2] process. I am against from making such updates available in the Ubuntu Archive. It will be a support nightmare. Installing nvidia-current on e.g. intel machine renders many things unusable (e.g. unable to login into desktop session). In the past, the solution was for pyopencl to not depend on ocl-icd / nvidia-current, and simply let it fail. I'm not sure what's the best way to solve this. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982889] Re: X trying to start before plymouth has finished using the drm driver
in ubiquity-dm installer, we pre-empt lightdm. Then execute plymouth deactivate followed by plymouth quit if plymouth does not have an active-vt. Then we start Xorg straight away, if Xorg fails to start, we retry with modified 'fallback' configs using fbdev and finally vesa. I guess in ubiquity-dm we can hit this race as there is nothing else running on the system. Should we do a loop and try starting X a couple of times before trying fallback configs? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libdrm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982889 Title: X trying to start before plymouth has finished using the drm driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdrm/+bug/982889/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in Hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade
** Description changed: - After installing the latest fglrx-updates package on Ubuntu 12.10 - (fglrx-updates_9.000-0ubuntu3_amd64) I have the same issue that was - present before AMD fixed switchable graphics on PowerXpress 4.0 cards - (such as my HD 6470M coupled with the intel HD Graphics 3000 of my intel - Core i5-2430M). The X server has a segmentation fault and the low - graphics mode is activated. + [Impact] + + * Hybrid systems with ATI/intel GPUs using fglrx get a segmentation + fault in X when using 12.10. In stock 12.04.1 these systems were working + fine. + + * This bug represents a severe regression from precise to quantal, + since is crashing on startup + + * It reverts the following upstream commit which has hidden some global symbols of the intel driver: + http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/commit/?id=05dcc5f1699ba90fc14c50882e8d4be89bc4a4f9 + + [Test Case] + + * Get an hybrid ATI/intel system. +Install quantal: The system should boot fine +Install the proprietary fglrx package and reboot: The X server crashes on startup + + [Regression Potential] + + * Upstream has stated that reverting this patch should be safe enough for SRU (mainly Comment 7): + https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56494#c6 + + * This patch has enabled many users to have their hybrid systems + working. No reported regressions so far + + [Other Info] + + * To the best of my knowledge this patch is currently the only known + way to get fglrx/intel hybrid systems to work in quantal. It has been + tested by many users in the bug report and this change fixed their + systems + + + == + + + After installing the latest fglrx-updates package on Ubuntu 12.10 (fglrx-updates_9.000-0ubuntu3_amd64) I have the same issue that was present before AMD fixed switchable graphics on PowerXpress 4.0 cards (such as my HD 6470M coupled with the intel HD Graphics 3000 of my intel Core i5-2430M). The X server has a segmentation fault and the low graphics mode is activated. WORKAROUND: Follow carefully the instructions here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI#WORKAROUND As per Nick Andrik, this is a version regression of xserver-xorg-video- intel from 2.20.2 (working and in below mentioned PPA) and 2.20.3. The regression commit is http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video- intel/commit/?id=05dcc5f1699ba90fc14c50882e8d4be89bc4a4f9 . ATTENTION: If your system includes an old ATI GPU card (Radeon HD 2x00 3x00 4x00) which is not supported any more by fglrx drivers, then probably you suffer from this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1058040 Subscribe and comment there please. If the X server loads (so you see no low graphics mode window) but you get no menu bars, window decorations, etc, then press Ctrl+Shift+T to open a terminal, write in there: unity --replace and post a comment with the result. @ M. van der Heide sure you assign it to ubiquity (the graphical) install _until_ somebody triages to be a problem in another package. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013171] Re: Many package hooks not ported to python3
It would help a lot to keep the python hooks both python2.7 (precise) and python3 (quantal+) for the upgrade case where your hook maybe run with either pythons. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Python/3 Most of the time it's easy to accomplish with: from __future__ import print_function Which is valid in both python2.6+ and python3. Also note: Consider passing universal_newlines=True to subprocess.Popen() and friends to get text output directly. Which nicely helps to deal with unicode vs bytes in python3 vs python2 cases. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xdiagnose in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1013171 Title: Many package hooks not ported to python3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1013171/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 619726] Re: [regression, maverick] LCD backlight brightness steps are inconsistent
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected natty ubuntu ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg I have early 2006 Macbook (1.1) changing the LCD brightness using the keyboard keys previously resulted in smooth brightness changes (from 0% - 100%). I've upgraded to maverick yesterday and the minus brightness key when going from 100% results in flickering cycles (100% - 0% - 50% - 0% - 100% - 0%). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 619726] Re: [regression since lucid] LCD backlight brightness steps are inconsistent
Right investigating further: On my machine /sys/class/backlight/mbp_backlight is a symlink to /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/mbp_backlight In there the max brightness value is 15. And the lowest value (experimental) is 0. echo 0..15 into the brightness file in the above mentioned folder changes the screen brightness correctly gradually. So the problem is somewhere higher level with whatever thing is called when I press the brightness up/down keys. ** Summary changed: - [regression since lucid] LCD backlight brightness steps are inconsistent + [regression since lucid] LCD backlight brightness steps are inconsistent, echo XX brightness works fine -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/619726 Title: [regression since lucid] LCD backlight brightness steps are inconsistent, echo XX brightness works fine ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 619726] Re: [regression since lucid] LCD backlight brightness steps are inconsistent, echo XX brightness works fine
Dear Ubuntu X team, thank you very much for all of your hard work! You get loads of bug reports and from my point of view you are handling it really well. The latest ping from your bot to check this bug out, prompted me to check the freedesktop bugzilla and search for similar brightness key bugs and try to figure out what is going on ( geez the big xorg trasision was so long ago surely they should have fixed it by now - i though). Anyways I've searched the freedesktop bugzilla, learned about /sys/class/backlight/ and discovered that manually echoing the values into brightness file actually works just fine! Trying the gnome brightness applet also changed the brightness smoothly, as did the gnome power settings thing. How dumb did I feel! For 6 months it was a bug in pommed configuration which handles my brightness keys! Sorry for wasting your time and keep up the good work! With regards, Dmitrijs. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/619726 Title: [regression since lucid] LCD backlight brightness steps are inconsistent, echo XX brightness works fine ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 619726] [NEW] [regression, maverick] LCD backlight brightness steps are inconsistent
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have early 2006 Macbook (1.1) changing the LCD brightness using the keyboard keys previously resulted in smooth brightness changes (from 0% - 100%). I've upgraded to maverick yesterday and the minus brightness key when going from 100% results in flickering cycles (100% - 0% - 50% - 0% - 100% - 0%). This is a regression from Lucid and Karmic, while Jaunty and before had the same flickering. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 522937] Re: Black Screen of not death
I think this is standard xorg freezes class bug. # When did you first notice it? Did you change any settings (Desktop Effects?) or update your system prior to first noticing it? After upgrading to Lucid # What frequency does it occur? Just once? Hourly? Daily? 5-10minutes after using Chromium (any ppa daily/beta/dev or the Lucid archive one) # Try to determine actions which reproduce it or make it more/less likely to reproduce. * Open lots of applications? Open chromium do general browsing for a little bit get the freeze * Heavy switching between desktops or vts Nope * Suspend/resume Irrelavent. Happes with suspend/resume and with cold boot. * Visiting particular web pages or loading particular files Possibly flash enabled site chromium. # Include a Batchbuffer Dump. On -intel this is REQUIRED. I'll try to make one. ** Package changed: ubuntu = xorg (Ubuntu) -- Black Screen of not death https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/522937 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 252094] Re: MASTER: Poor graphics performance on Intel
2009/6/5 Radu Cristian Fotescu beranger...@yahoo.ca: 1. The freedesktop bug #18389 was closed with NOTOURBUG, which does NOT solve it. 2. The freedesktop bug #18389 was opened for openSUSE, so this does NOT solve Ubuntu's bug. 3. As long as Jaunty is affected by this bug, the bug status can NOT be Invalid! There are a lot of reports of improved performance with using 2.6.30rc kernels in combination with newer versions of intel drivers from the x-org edgers PPA's in Jaunty and Karmic. I stop using Ubuntu effective now, and I am shredding all the Ubuntu CDs I own. This is unacceptable. You're not using your brains. Jaunty is Keep it cool, eh?! severely affected and can't be fixed with the *official* packages for 9.04 (kernel, xf86-video-intel), and you are playing with freedesktop closed, Karmic apparently fixed, etc. It was affected on the day of the release, packages from karmic are *official* and have been backported via PPA and do fix the problem. Right now it's the waiting time to decided what will qualify for SRU. It is Ubuntu policy not to include new versions of software after the release. Noone forced you to upgrade to Jaunty. Hardy is LTS and still supported. If you want stable and long-term machine use LTS releases. If you upgrade on day of the Release well you should expect that not everything will work as *you* wish it to work. Look how KDE 4.0 worked out and you have installed Jaunty 9.04.0 - point 0 version! -- With best regards Dmitrijs Ledkovs (for short Dima), Ледков Дмитрий Юрьевич -- MASTER: Poor graphics performance on Intel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
