[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1230252] Re: libxdamage-dev should be Multi-Arch:same

2013-10-29 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Thanks. I think I uploaded it into saucy anyway, sorry about that. I
guess it will be able to get back in sync.

libxdamage (1:1.1.4-1ubuntu1) saucy; urgency=low

  * Mark libxdamage-dev as Multi-Arch: same.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1227188] [NEW] brightness doesn't work on Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13

2013-09-18 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Public bug reported:

Similar to bug 11588934, I get acpi_video0  intel_backlight, or
(ideapad intel_backlight) depending on the osi_* kernel cmd line
settings. The one that is preferred / used (acpi_video0 / ideapad) do
not work. Whereas intel_backlight is the one that does work. I have
Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13.

I have now specified:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/backlight.conf
Section Device
  Identifier Device0
  Option Backlight intel_backlight
EndSection

I guess a similar blacklist as was applied for HP should be applied in
upstream kernel for Yoga?

Regards,

Dmitrijs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1203024] Re: 'Install 3rd party software' does not install proper drivers for Nvidia Geforce GTX 580

2013-09-09 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
What is the output of:

$ ubuntu-drivers list

?

We use Modaliases stanza on the package to figure out if your hardware needs it.
Could you also do:

$ lspci

And then lookup modalias for your card in:
$ cat /sys/devices/pci*/*$(DEVICE)/modalias

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1220645] Re: Webcam view shows green screen

2013-09-04 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Ubiquity bugs are only tracked in Ubuntu ubiquity package.

This issue will not be fixed, in later releases webcam step has been
altogether removed, due to being buggy, creepy and not providing
significant benefit to the users. We may push a change in ubiquity to
also remove the webcam step in 12.04.4 release but I'm not sure that
qualifies under stable release updates policy.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763457] Re: please provide opencl-icd virtual package

2013-08-10 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
The required changes are too risky for stable releases, and fall out of
scope from both Stable Release Updates [1] and Backports [2] process. I
am against from making such updates available in the Ubuntu Archive. It
will be a support nightmare.

Installing nvidia-current on e.g. intel machine renders many things
unusable (e.g. unable to login into desktop session). In the past, the
solution was for pyopencl to not depend on ocl-icd / nvidia-current, and
simply let it fail. I'm not sure what's the best way to solve this.

ogra_ src/omap_driver.c: default_depth = 24;  /* TODO: get from kernel
*/

Changing that to 32, recompiling, in-place replacing allows me to boot
and be presented with the you are running in a low graphics mode and
allows me to attempt reconfiguring my X11.

But ubiquity-dm did manage to boot fine to do the install...

 So what's the reason that fixed package couldn't be uploaded into
 quantal's repositories?

It can and should be. Somebody simply needs to open a new bug, fill
out the description as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates
prepare the SRU and get it uploaded/sponsored.
At the moment, I don't have time to do it. Can you?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763457] Re: please provide opencl-icd virtual package

2013-03-03 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
As per bug status above neither fglrx-installer nor nvidia-common
provided the opencl-icd package, while pyopencl which depends on a such
package got uploaded into quantal. If you want to install pyopencl in
quantal _now_, please use equivs to create a dummy package named
opencl-icd.

(or whatever other packages are missing)

This change in pyopencl has been reverted in raring, so in raring
python-pyopencl should be installable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982889] Re: X trying to start before plymouth has finished using the drm driver

2013-02-21 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
in ubiquity-dm installer, we pre-empt lightdm. Then execute plymouth
deactivate followed by plymouth quit if plymouth does not have an
active-vt. Then we start Xorg straight away, if Xorg fails to start, we
retry with modified 'fallback' configs using fbdev and finally vesa. I
guess in ubiquity-dm we can hit this race as there is nothing else
running on the system. Should we do a loop and try starting X a couple
of times before trying fallback configs?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in Hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade

2013-01-04 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
** Description changed:

- After installing the latest fglrx-updates package on Ubuntu 12.10
- (fglrx-updates_9.000-0ubuntu3_amd64) I have the same issue that was
- present before AMD fixed switchable graphics on PowerXpress 4.0 cards
- (such as my HD 6470M coupled with the intel HD Graphics 3000 of my intel
- Core i5-2430M). The X server has a segmentation fault and the low
- graphics mode is activated.
+ [Impact]
+
+ * Hybrid systems with ATI/intel GPUs using fglrx get a segmentation
+ fault in X when using 12.10. In stock 12.04.1 these systems were working
+ fine.
+
+ * This bug represents a severe regression from precise to quantal,
+ since is crashing on startup
+
+ * It reverts the following upstream commit which has hidden some global
symbols of the intel driver:
+
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/commit/?id=05dcc5f1699ba90fc14c50882e8d4be89bc4a4f9
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+  * Get an hybrid ATI/intel system.
+Install quantal: The system should boot fine
+Install the proprietary fglrx package and reboot: The X server crashes on
startup
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Upstream has stated that reverting this patch should be safe enough for
SRU (mainly Comment 7):
+ https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56494#c6
+
+ * This patch has enabled many users to have their hybrid systems
+ working. No reported regressions so far
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * To the best of my knowledge this patch is currently the only known
+ way to get fglrx/intel hybrid systems to work in quantal. It has been
+ tested by many users in the bug report and this change fixed their
+ systems
+
+
+ ==
+
+
+ After installing the latest fglrx-updates package on Ubuntu 12.10
(fglrx-updates_9.000-0ubuntu3_amd64) I have the same issue that was present

6470M coupled with the intel HD Graphics 3000 of my intel Core i5-2430M). The X
server has a segmentation fault and the low graphics mode is activated.

  WORKAROUND: Follow carefully the instructions here:
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI#WORKAROUND

  As per Nick Andrik, this is a version regression of xserver-xorg-video-
  intel from 2.20.2 (working and in below mentioned PPA) and 2.20.3. The
  regression commit is http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-
  intel/commit/?id=05dcc5f1699ba90fc14c50882e8d4be89bc4a4f9 .

  ATTENTION: If your system includes an old ATI GPU card (Radeon HD 2x00 3x00
4x00) which is not supported any more by fglrx drivers, then probably you
suffer from this bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1058040
  Subscribe and comment there please.

  If the X server loads (so you see no low graphics mode window) but you get no
menu bars, window decorations, etc, then press Ctrl+Shift+T to open a terminal,
write in there:
  unity --replace
  and post a comment with the result.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1066389] Re: New 12.10 Install Fail

2012-10-14 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
You are using an old image, please use a more recent one. There were a few
related bugs fixed. Please file a new bug if a newer image is also failing. The
most current image has 20121014 timestamp.
LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Beta amd64 (20120926)

You can use zsync with zsync url, if you have the old image around. That
way it will download the difference only.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1062253] Re: Cannot install 12.10 beta 2, nouveau doesn't recognise nVidia Geforce GTX 560

2012-10-13 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
@ M. van der Heide sure you assign it to ubiquity (the graphical)
install _until_ somebody triages to be a problem in another package.
There are hundreds of software packages that get you the graphical
installer, and we do need to start narrowing it down. Usually we start
with ubiquity and then filter down to the actually package with the bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058211] Re: Add recommends for libpam-xdg-support

2012-09-28 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Preferably don't add this dependency. This should be seeded as part of
ubuntu-desktop, and weston itself should fall back to
$something_sensible if the path isn't set.

from the spec
http://standards.freedesktop.org/basedir-spec/basedir-spec-latest.html

If $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is not set applications should fall back to a replacement
directory with similar capabilities and print a warning message. Applications
should use this directory for communication and synchronization purposes and
should not place larger files in it, since it might reside in runtime memory
and cannot necessarily be swapped out to disk.

** Changed in: weston (Ubuntu)
   Status: In Progress = Confirmed

** Summary changed:

- Add recommends for libpam-xdg-support
+ weston does not fallback gracefully if $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is not set

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763457] Re: pyopencl - please sync use opencl-icd virtual package

2012-06-28 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
The package python-pyopencl depends on nvidia-current, which makes it
impossible to correctly use on AMD / ATI systems.

In debbugs #628702 debian started using a virtual package opencl-icd
instead of depending directly on particular graphics driver / opencl
implementation.

We should follow the same.

TODO

* syn pyopencl

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763457] Re: pyopencl - please sync use opencl-icd virtual package

2012-06-28 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
This bug was fixed in the package pyopencl - 2012.1-1

---
pyopencl (2012.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * Depend on free ocl-icd-libopencl1 instead of non-free libraries.
  * Add NEWS entry describing OpenCL library dependencies.
  * Change my email.
  * Move python-pyopengl from Recommends to Suggests because package
can be used for computations without any graphical environment.

pyopencl (2011.2+git20120517-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * Call dh_numpy3 in debian/rules for NumPy ABI and ABI dependencies
in Python3 module.
  * Fix copyright for files in src/cl/*
  * Update debian/compat to 9, update dependencies.
  * Add Replaces: python-pyopencl to python-pyopencl-headers to avoid problem
with updating, and ensure that python-pyopencl and python3-pyopencl
always use correct version of python-pyopencl-headers. (Closes: #674000)
  * Add NEWS entry describing OpenCL library dependencies. (Closes: #673992)

pyopencl (2011.2+git20120508-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * Add Python 3 package, create separate python-pyopencl-headers package.
  * Update Standards-Version to 3.9.3.
  * Update debian/copyright to official 1.0 format.
  * Call dh_numpy in debian/rules for NumPy ABI and ABI dependencies.

 -- Tomasz Rybak bogom...@post.pl  Tue, 08 May 2012 23:04:52 +0200

pyopencl (2011.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * Change dependencies and build-dependencies to allow installation
with non-NVIDIA (particularly AMD) OpenCL provider (Closes: #628702)
  * Remove unnecessary ./configure option pointing to include directory;
OpenCL header files are now in /usr/include
  * Split into python-pyopencl and python-pyopencl-doc packages.
  * Use dh_sphinxdoc to properly manage documentation.
  * Add doc-base support
  * Fix copyright for files in compyte/*
  * Remove pytest override as package uses only py.test

 -- Tomasz Rybak bogom...@post.pl  Mon, 28 Nov 2011 13:39:37 +0100

pyopencl (2011.1.2+git20110716-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
  * Update Standards-Version to 3.9.2; no changes necessary.
  * Switch to debhelper compat level 8; no changes necessary.
  * Add option in debian/source/ to unapply patches after build.
  * Change debian/rules to use dh_python2 which is recommended in Wheezy
  * Add override python-py of pytest package
  * Disable compressing Sphinx-generated files (Closes: #608778)
  * Change dependencies to OpenCL virtual packages to allow other OpenCL
providers. #628702 is not yet closed because of lack of change in build
dependencies.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013171] Re: Many package hooks not ported to python3

2012-06-16 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
It would help a lot to keep the python hooks both python2.7 (precise)
and python3 (quantal+) for the upgrade case where your hook maybe run
with either pythons.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Python/3

Most of the time it's easy to accomplish with:
from __future__ import print_function

Which is valid in both python2.6+ and python3.

Also note:
Consider passing universal_newlines=True to subprocess.Popen() and friends to
get text output directly.

Which nicely helps to deal with unicode vs bytes in python3 vs python2
cases.

2011-02-21 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected natty ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

  I have early 2006 Macbook (1.1) changing the LCD brightness using the
  keyboard keys previously resulted in smooth brightness changes (from 0%
  - 100%). I've upgraded to maverick yesterday and the minus
  brightness key when going from 100% results in flickering cycles (100%
  - 0% - 50% - 0% - 100% - 0%).

  This is a regression from Lucid and Karmic, while Jaunty and before had
  the same flickering.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 619726] Re: [regression since lucid] LCD backlight brightness steps are inconsistent

2011-02-21 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Right investigating further:

On my machine /sys/class/backlight/mbp_backlight is a symlink to
/sys/devices/virtual/backlight/mbp_backlight

In there the max brightness value is 15. And the lowest value
(experimental) is 0.

echo 0..15 into the brightness file in the above mentioned folder
changes the screen brightness correctly gradually.

So the problem is somewhere higher level with whatever thing is called
when I press the brightness up/down keys.

** Summary changed:

- [regression since lucid] LCD backlight brightness steps are inconsistent
+ [regression since lucid] LCD backlight brightness steps are inconsistent,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 619726] Re: [regression since lucid] LCD backlight brightness steps are inconsistent, echo XX brightness works fine

2011-02-21 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Dear Ubuntu X team, thank you very much for all of your hard work! You get
loads of bug reports and from my point of view you are handling it really well.
The latest ping from your bot to check this bug out, prompted me to check the
freedesktop bugzilla and search for similar brightness key bugs and try to
figure out what is going on (
geez the big xorg trasision was so long ago surely they should have fixed it by
now - i though). Anyways I've searched the freedesktop bugzilla, learned about
/sys/class/backlight/ and discovered that manually echoing the values into
brightness file actually works just fine! Trying the gnome brightness applet
also changed the brightness smoothly, as did the gnome power settings thing.
How dumb did I feel! For 6 months it was a bug in pommed configuration which
handles my brightness keys! Sorry for wasting your time and keep up the good
work!

With regards,

Dmitrijs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 619726] [NEW] [regression, maverick] LCD backlight brightness steps are inconsistent

2010-08-18 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I have early 2006 Macbook (1.1) changing the LCD brightness using the
keyboard keys previously resulted in smooth brightness changes (from 0%
- 100%). I've upgraded to maverick yesterday and the minus
brightness key when going from 100% results in flickering cycles (100%
- 0% - 50% - 0% - 100% - 0%).

This is a regression from Lucid and Karmic, while Jaunty and before had
the same flickering.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 522937] Re: Black Screen of not death

2010-02-23 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
I think this is standard xorg freezes class bug.

# When did you first notice it? Did you change any settings (Desktop Effects?)
or update your system prior to first noticing it?
After upgrading to Lucid

# What frequency does it occur? Just once? Hourly? Daily?
5-10minutes after using Chromium (any ppa daily/beta/dev or the Lucid archive
one)

# Try to determine actions which reproduce it or make it more/less
likely to reproduce.

* Open lots of applications?
Open chromium do general browsing for a little bit get the freeze

* Heavy switching between desktops or vts
Nope
* Suspend/resume
Irrelavent. Happes with suspend/resume and with cold boot.
* Visiting particular web pages or loading particular files
Possibly flash enabled site  chromium.

# Include a Batchbuffer Dump. On -intel this is REQUIRED.
I'll try to make one.

** Package changed: ubuntu = xorg (Ubuntu)

 1. The freedesktop bug #18389 was closed with NOTOURBUG, which does NOT
 solve it.

 2. The freedesktop bug #18389 was opened for openSUSE, so this does NOT
 solve Ubuntu's bug.

 3. As long as Jaunty is affected by this bug, the bug status can NOT be
 Invalid!

There are a lot of reports of improved performance with using 2.6.30rc
kernels in combination with newer versions of intel drivers from the
x-org edgers PPA's in Jaunty and Karmic.

 I stop using Ubuntu effective now, and I am shredding all the Ubuntu CDs
 I own. This is unacceptable. You're not using your brains. Jaunty is

Keep it cool, eh?!

 severely affected and can't be fixed with the *official* packages for
 9.04 (kernel, xf86-video-intel), and you are playing with freedesktop
 closed, Karmic apparently fixed, etc.

It was affected on the day of the release, packages from karmic are
*official* and have been backported via PPA and do fix the problem.
Right now it's the waiting time to decided what will qualify for SRU.
It is Ubuntu policy not to include new versions of software after the
release.

Noone forced you to upgrade to Jaunty. Hardy is LTS and still
supported. If you want stable and long-term machine use LTS releases.
If you upgrade on day of the Release well you should expect that not
everything will work as *you* wish it to work. Look how KDE 4.0 worked
out and you have installed Jaunty 9.04.0 - point 0 version!
