I reverted to kernel 3.17 and all my AMD troubles went away. Stability
for me is more important than running the hottest new kernel.

My solution was to boot with Ketnel 17.1, under which I have no problems
with the Radeon drivers.

doesn't support kernels higher than 3.16.x, and I'm running 4.0.4.
