[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1937126] [NEW] bug found
Public bug reported: I downloaded version 21.04 of ubuntu, then I realized that when I downloaded the gnome shell tweaking tool, I realized that when I changed the theme of the dock and added in the top bar the option to show the option of locations on the system, it leaves my language after performing some accesses in the application menu this behavior appears. I also noticed that by accessing the applications menu the dock that I modified to appear in the lower corner of the screen is now also displayed on the left side of my monitor. I apologize for the English, but I live in Brazil and I am not fluent in this language. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1918227] [NEW] No display after sleep
Public bug reported: Approximately two weeks ago after leaving the computer alone the display turned off like normal but did not come back. The system is working in the background but the display wont show. I've gotten it to work sometimes by pulling out the display port cable out and putting it back in but that hasn't been working lately. Any help would be greatly appreciated. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1917974] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: I had been using the recommended nvidia driver (nvidia-driver-460). I recently changed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau for the following reasons: 1) The resolution configuration was not saved. It is, every power off and power on the resolution restarted to low resolution. 2) The syslog file in /var/log/ constantly was filled with logs (may be with a rate of 1 GB per hour), then, I was enforced to install busybox- syslogd to stop the logging and continue with activities. 3) When using xserver-xorg-video-nouveau, in contrast with nvidia- driver-460, i didn't had to reset the resolution configuration, which was great, but now the screen is constantly freezing and i had to use alt+SysRq+REISUB two times in a day ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu14 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.8.0-44.50~20.04.1-generic 5.8.18 Uname: Linux 5.8.0-44-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.16 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Fri Mar 5 22:59:16 2021 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: focal DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GpuHangFrequency: Several times a week GpuHangReproducibility: Seems to happen randomly GpuHangStarted: Today GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation GP108 [GeForce GT 1030] [10de:1d01] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd GP108 [GeForce GT 1030] [1458:375c] InstallationDate: Installed on 2021-02-27 (7 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 20.04.2.0 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20210209.1) MachineType: Default string Default string ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.8.0-44-generic root=UUID=28228923-7b88-4688-b9fd-157d9ebc22df ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display Title: Xorg freeze UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 06/03/2020 dmi.bios.release: 5.11 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 5.11 dmi.board.asset.tag: Default string dmi.board.name: X99-k9 dmi.board.vendor: MACHINIST dmi.board.version: V1.0 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Default string dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: Default string dmi.chassis.version: Default string dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr5.11:bd06/03/2020:br5.11:svnDefaultstring:pnDefaultstring:pvrDefaultstring:rvnMACHINIST:rnX99-k9:rvrV1.0:cvnDefaultstring:ct3:cvrDefaultstring: dmi.product.family: Default string dmi.product.name: Default string dmi.product.sku: Default string dmi.product.version: Default string dmi.sys.vendor: Default string version.compiz: compiz N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.102-1ubuntu1~20.04.1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 20.2.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx N/A version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.20.9-2ubuntu1.2~20.04.1 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev N/A version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:19.1.0-1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20200226-1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.16-1 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug focal freeze ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1917974 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1917974/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power
@Alberto: Is there any chance that this work-around works without gdm3? I'm using ubuntu-server 18.04 and this my laptop configuration: ➜ ~ inxi -G Graphics: Card-1: Intel HD Graphics 5500 Card-2: NVIDIA GK208M [GeForce 920M] Display Server: X.Org 1.19.6 driver: intel Resolution: 1366x768@60.06hz OpenGL: renderer: Mesa DRI Intel HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2) version: 4.5 Mesa 18.0.5 I followed the steps and installed required packages as follows: ➜ ~ sudo apt install nvidia-driver-390/bionic-updates ubuntu-drivers-common/bionic-proposed nvidia-prime/bionic-proposed nvidia-settings/bionic-updates libnvidia-gl-390/bionic-updates libnvidia-compute-390/bionic-updates libnvidia-decode-390/bionic-updates libnvidia-encode-390/bionic-updates libnvidia-ifr1-390/bionic-updates libnvidia-fbc1-390/bionic-updates Then I executed "sudo prime-select nvidia". But after rebooting, I have no openGl support and this error is present at Xorg's logs: VGA arbiter: cannot open kernel arbiter, no multi-card support Nvidia kernel modules are loaded and Xorg seems to register nvidia driver at init. If I try to run glxgears for example, I get the following message: glxinfo Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual And using "sudo prime-select intel" also leaves me without GL. I think this is something related to gpu-manager, because I am not using any display manager, just running xorg from startx. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1778011 Title: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hwe-next/+bug/1778011/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1644986] [NEW] Screen flickering since 16.10 upgrade

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1542708] Re: amd Driver Graphical Problem.
Hello(2), Ok, I managed to recover the system through synaptic. I eliminated the package that was left of the "fglrx" and pulled out completely the "snort". My system usually updated without the lock that was being caused by "snort" and the "fglrx" remnant. The thing that strikes me at the moment is the difficulty in accessing the graph so the "home" system. But through the "ls" command in the terminal (which I am now able to open) I can see that the ubuntu indicates that "home" is there. The gparted also indicates the existence of "home", also with due proportion. Thanks. 2016-02-13 15:47 GMT-02:00 Christopher M. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1542708] Re: amd Driver Graphical Problem.
Helol, I'm sending the images provided by i-nex. For prevention, I use my computer in poly-boot system with other operating systems. Luckily, I keep Ubuntu on *gnome* version elsewhere on my hard drive, so I can use the canonical system that caters to almost 100% of my needs. But I find it strange that the simple exchange of drives to the one provided by AMD has started a big problem in terms of access to various system software. I tried to see if he could deal with an intrusion attempt initiated by some cracker. For this I downloaded the central ubuntu program application "SNORT" to determine possible security vulnerabilities. I had some difficulty in setting it up to simulate the promised vulnerability testing, and then no longer used the snort application. But when I try to update the system from my defective ubuntu, during package installation, the system alerts that snort is trying to become active, even if I have not asked, which is starting to make me believe that to solve a problem, just creating another in relation to "snort", being self triggered exactly when system upgrade. I'm already resigned to use the open source driver for your video card, no problem in not being able to rely on AMD's development team for my board hd 8330g. No problem, since practically do not have the habit of playing games, it was only a short phase of experience with central ubuntu games and with the steam. The problem is that I'm no direct access to directory files and the central system configuration. After you have downloaded the snort'm also without access to central ubuntu programs. When I click the terminal icon tamém the system back to the login screen. The same happens when Teclo ctrl + alt + f1, the tembém system back to the login screen. Only firefox works. For this Teclo the Browser icon and it accesses the Internet without problems. Honestly, even if the unity has suffered a bug still I prefer it instead of gnome interface I'm using an emergency basis at this time. Even if you use more PC memory, the interface of the "unity" it is more accessible and enjoyable than the gnome being used to help shape this time. Particularly very gnome like, since version 2 at the moment can be found in the distribution "mate", but use Linux in "unity" version is what differentiates the canonical system compared to other operating systems. Thanks. 2016-02-13 15:47 GMT-02:00 Christopher M. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep
Confirming this on a desktop machine, Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K with built-in Intel graphics and no additional video card at all. Suspend/resume was working just fine on 13.10. After upgrade to 14.04 suspend still works, but upon resume the screen is blank. The only way to get it back is to go to a text console and force-kill X so it respawns. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1299792] Re: Xorg dumping core on Hibrid graphics Intel+ATI
This bug filing might not be complete because ubuntu-bug was not working at the time. Only managed to send the bug after having found a workaround. You can see a small history of the problem at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2213955 Summarising: Xorg on live usb stick doesn't find the ATI card, so it works with the intel one, and it's fine, apparently. After install, the same Xorg finds different list of hardware, including the ATI card and tries to work with it, and dumps core. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1299792 Title: Xorg dumping core on Hibrid graphics Intel+ATI To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1299792/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

What should I be looking to accomplish by overriding the EDID? Use xedid or similar to override the EDID. As to the GPU lockup, I gather it continued working properly, without having a hard freeze. So this is a dupe of the false gpu bug. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1155609 False GPU lockup EIR: 0x0010 -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1155230 Title: [i915gm] False GPU lockup EIR: 0x0010 PGTBL_ER: 0x0100 IPEHR: 0x0100 Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: This error occurred while trying to connect an external monitor to an Inspiron 6000. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760695] Re: Ubuntu suddenly logs-out
Ok, I can't make the backtrace right now (gdm, don't have a remote machine. Apport does not report a thing) It seems the X server terminates normally on an error, so I did a little of Debugging Error Exits as I read from the wiki that Bryce pointed. One log was created closing x server with vlc. The other with totem. Both with different files. The same x-server messages. My Ubuntu is the one that I described before (I must ad that it is a 32bit-Desktop) I'm attaching the logs and I don't know if this serves for something but here is the output of lspci: 00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760695] Re: Ubuntu suddenly logs-out
I have the same problem. X Server fails continuously. Every time I try to see a movie, rmvb, flv, mkv, whatever, even on Totem when I'm playing music and I try to change the sound volume. I can't see videos, every time I try to put a video on full screen, x server fails and I'm back on log in screen. So I can reproduce the bug all the time, also with vlc, if I try to maximize the window while playing a video X Server fails again. Ubuntu 11.04 stable. I log in with Ubuntu Classic. I have no graphics hardware acceleration. I installed Ubuntu on a clean partition. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 657976] Re: [Intel GMA 945/950] Unity Interface Is Extremely Slow (Ubuntu Netbook 10.10)
I confirm that Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.10 works slow on a Asus EEE PC 1201N (nVidia ION with fast graphics hardware) with 2 GB ram. This is what I saw: - Icons from the left toolbar (applications) loose the pictures when computer go sleep, suspend mode or when user session is switched to another session, and appear all like a TV when all programation ends (just a bunch of non-sense different color pixels mixed) - When selecting the file explorer, first is shown the icon labels for files and folders, but for the pictures I must wait even minutes (only 1st.time, the second time and so are faster, like if where cached in memory) - Performance (FPS) is worse than normal Ubuntu edition - Because all of this, UNE consumes the battery more quickly that normal Ubuntu MY SOLUTION: I switched to the normal Ubuntu Edition 10.10, and now everything is much better. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 631412] Re: [maverick] - Xorg fails to load with nomodeset kernel parameter
This is not on kubuntu only - I have exactly the same problem on Ubuntu. My laptop is not the same as the reporter's (it's a Samsung R430), but it has the same graphics chipset, has the same backlight setting problem, I've used the same workaround on Lucid, and now it also doesn't work on Maverick. I my case, taking off only nomodeset from the kernel options allows the system to boot into X, and though the brightness does change accordingly when the system is running on AC or battery (whereas without acpi_backlight=vendor not even that happens), the brightness can no longer me set on the Power Management on Gnome Preferences (the slider is missing). -- [maverick] - Xorg fails to load with nomodeset kernel parameter https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/631412 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 559039] Re: X Crashes when enabling second monitor
A colleague has a netbook with intel video, and he has lucid ubuntu netbook remix installed. If he plugs an external monitor with dual head, the effects are automatically disabled. This is way more elegant than just crashing :-) I don't know if it's an ubuntu-specific or compiz feature, but KDE should also suspend compositing automatically when a second monitor is used in a dual head setup, at least for models which don't support it. -- X Crashes when enabling second monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/559039 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 559039] Re: X Crashes when enabling second monitor
New info: it worked with an external monitor with 1280x1024 resolution. The first monitor i've tried used 1680x1050, and perhaps was pushing the netbook's onboard video card too far... As there are some new updates, I'll try again connecting with the 1680x1050 monitor, but I'll only be at that place tomorrow, and will report here the result. -- X Crashes when enabling second monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/559039 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 559039] Re: X Crashes when enabling second monitor
Actually, following Murphy's law, I found the cause minutes after the last post... But, at least I found how to reproduce it :) I use KDE. If I disable compositing (shift+alt+F12), then the second monitor works without being mirrored. With compositing enabled, X crashes, and happens as first reported. On my previous post, the battery was low, so KDE disabled the effects. As a result, I thought it could be related to resolution. But actually, it's related to the desktop effects being enabled or disabled. Now, the real question: is this a limitation of the intel hardware / driver of not being able to handle dual head with compositing or is this a bug? Could someone using gnome test whether dual head works with compiz (desktop effects) enabled? -- X Crashes when enabling second monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/559039 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 559039] Re: X Crashes when enabling second monitor
Happens for me too. If I plug the external monitor and set the netbook lcd to mirror the external monitor, things work ok. However, if I set it to be on the left side of the external monitor, x crashes. Using kubuntu lucid with all updates, on a netbook with an intel video (00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)) After that crash, I'm set to 800x600, and if I try to restore the native 1024x800 resolution, X server crashes again.
