[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1328430] [NEW] Other windows of the same app not shown if one is set to Always on top

2014-06-10 Thread Gioele Barabucci
Public bug reported:

I have multiple terminal windows open. I can see a preview of all of
them if I click on the Terminal icon in the launcher.

If I set one of these windows to Always on top, then clicking on the
icon does not show all the previews anymore. Removing the Always on
top flag fixes this problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442574] Re: mesa doesn't work when fglrx is installed

2013-12-23 Thread Gioele Barabucci
Couldn't dpkg-divert be used to make the current libGL.so selectable in
a sane way until a more complete solution is found?

For the records, this is still a problem in precise 12.04 LTS.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442574] Re: mesa doesn't work when fglrx is installed

2013-12-23 Thread Gioele Barabucci
Here is a use case that I hope can change the status of this report from
Opinion to New/Confirmed.

The fglrx package is needed if one wants to use the AMD CodeXL tool, an
OpenGL/OpenCL development tool from AMD. The CodeXL tool can work with
offline devices, i.e. without having an AMD GPU in the computer from
where it is run, but it requires the Catalyst/fglrx libraries to be
installed anyway.

Here is the problem: when CodeXL sees that the host is using an AMD
libGL.so library, it disables its offline features and tries to use
the available AMD GPU. But there are no available AMD GPUs, so it fails.

To use CodeXL one has to

1. start on a system where fglrx is not installed
2. install fglrx (this install libGL.so and many other libraries)
3. use CodeXL (the fglrx's libGL.so is present but not loaded, so CodeXL does
not know it is available and offline devices can be used)
4. remove fglrx

If one reboots without removing the fglrx package, then its libGL will
be loaded and CodeXL will stop to work.

This problem would be solved if it were possible to install fglrx
without activating its version of libGL.so.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1231834] [NEW] USB Mouse clicks are unreliable (missed clicks, accidental double clicks)

2013-09-27 Thread Gioele Barabucci
Public bug reported:

Since I updated from 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS my USB mouse has been
behaving strangely: clicks are often not recognized properly.

The most frequent problem is that clicks are not recognized at all. I
have to click two or three times before a click get recognized. After
that, the next three or four clicks are recognized without problems.
Another problem is that simple clicks are misunderstood for double
clicks.

This happens with a Logitech USB mouse and other USB mice. All these
mice are properly working, as I tested them on other computers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1001326] [NEW] Screen corruption

2012-05-18 Thread Gioele Barabucci
Public bug reported:

On this five years old dell workstation the screen start showing some
kind of weird corrupted patterns. This corruption gets worse as time
passes by. A reboot solves it for a while.

The corruption can be seen in the Unity tooltips and in the wallpapers.
It can also be seen in the icons shown during Alt+tab.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 914352] [NEW] X crashes and goes back to login while the screensaver runs

2012-01-10 Thread Gioele Barabucci
Public bug reported:

While the (blank) screensaver runs X will randomly crash, quitting the
session and going back to the login manager.

These crashes are random but far more likely to happen if Eclipse is
open: I can reproduce the crash 90% of the times with an open Eclipse
window, 30% of the times with no open windows.

The dmesg log is full of

[  368.351270] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer
elapsed... GPU hung
[  368.351275] render error detected, EIR: 0x
[  368.351294] [drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request
returns -5 (awaiting 15549 at 15524)
[  369.100021] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer

[  369.100046] [drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request
returns -5 (awaiting 15552 at 15524)

There are other similar bug reports in launchpad but they all refer to
freezes. In my case I only see the X session crashing and going back to
GDM. After that I can log in fine and everything will work until the
screensaver kicks in again.

2011-06-01 Thread Gioele Barabucci
This bug is still present on a Ubuntu Lucid 10.04.2 installation.

This error is triggered by the screensaver, but only seldom.

[11480.256008] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer
elapsed... GPU hung
[11480.256016] render error detected, EIR: 0x

returns -5 (awaiting 259791 at 259790)

When this error is detected, the current user get logged out and the
system goes back to GDM.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 226509] Re: Dell XPS m1330 multimedia keys don't work in Ubuntu

2009-10-24 Thread Gioele Barabucci
Here are my findings.

The codes that xev gets are correct. This is the xev output:

  keycode 171 = (keysym 0x1008ff17, XF86AudioNext), state = 0x0
  keycode 171 = (keysym 0x1008ff17, XF86AudioNext), state = 0x0
  keycode 172 = (keysym 0x1008ff14, XF86AudioPlay), state = 0x0
  keycode 172 = (keysym 0x1008ff14, XF86AudioPlay), state = 0x0
  keycode 174 = (keysym 0x1008ff15, XF86AudioStop), state = 0x0
  keycode 174 = (keysym 0x1008ff15, XF86AudioStop), state = 0x0

(the first keycode is on key-down, the second on key-up)

The bindings in /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings are pretty
sensible

  $ gconftool-2 -R /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings
   volume_down = XF86AudioLowerVolume
   pause = XF86AudioPause
   search = XF86Search
   volume_up = XF86AudioRaiseVolume
   previous = XF86AudioPrev
   stop = XF86AudioStop
   eject = XF86Eject
   next = XF86AudioNext
   volume_mute = XF86AudioMute
   play = XF86AudioPlay

Please not that volume-down, volume-up and mute keys are working.

2009-10-24 Thread Gioele Barabucci
I found out that the original bug has been solved. The problem that we
are still experiencing are related to bug #361149. Once the workaround
outlined in that bug report are applied, the XPS media keys are working
again, both in GNOME and in KDE.
