Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 240738] Re: syndaemon sometimes fails to disable the touchpad
In the meantime i also spent some time on analysing, and found out, that Option SHMConfig On (not true) solved the issue of not beeing able to adjust fingerHigh/fingerLow with synclient for me. The sensitivity settings one can make in the kde-gui-touchpad are still not useful and when the notebook heats up, one might have to change sensitivity again. The SHMConfig flag and some related settings have been deactivated by the update process, according to the comments inserted in xorg.conf due to HAL things. ...so it's now just snd-hda-intel (mic) that forces me to use Windows. Zitat von Jonas Petersson 240...@bugs.launchpad.net: @itismike Well, it might be sort of related. I'm pretty sure it worked when I booted from the live CD (as did the screen backlight keys, but I'm not sure it was using nvidia at the time), so something is different from that state and it may well be that the difference is the SHMConfig flag. If so, it makes fair sense that without SHMConfig the syndaemon will be unable to adjust the touchpad. -- You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of a duplicate bug (577764). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240738 Title: syndaemon sometimes fails to disable the touchpad Status in âxserver-xorg-input-synapticsâ package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics syndaemon does not always disable the touchpad when a key is pressed. Steps to reproduce: * Turn on SHMConfig in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and restart X. * $ killall syndaemon * $ syndaemon -i 3 -k -t * Run another application such as gedit and press a single key (not a modifier key) while watching the syndaemon window. It should print 'Disable', wait 3 seconds, and then 'Enable'. Most of the time this works as expected, but a small percentage of the time nothing new is displayed in the syndaemon window (the gedit window displays the key as expected). The timing seems important; if the key is pressed between 1 and 3 seconds after syndaemon displays 'Enable' then the key is more likely to be missed by syndaemon. This problem sounds minor but has been a major source of aggravation while typing on my laptop because a few times a day I find myself typing in another part of the document or in a different application altogether. Depending on the application which is incorrectly receiving the key presses, the consequences could be serious. This is on Ubuntu 8.04 and xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 0.14.7~git20070706-mactel1, but I believe this problem has existed for many months. The hardware is an Apple MacBook 2nd generation. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 240738] Re: syndaemon sometimes fails to disable the touchpad
Thx, i have an Acer NB and i'am not sure if/why my bugs has been marked as a duplicate of this one, since the problem is even worse than this - it does not only fail to disable, it also is not able to set the sensitivity of the touchpad at all, can't find the reference to my bug anymore, but it has been rated as a synaptic-driver problem, which seems also not be fixed until now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240738 Title: syndaemon sometimes fails to disable the touchpad ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577764] Re: Synaptic touchpad settings do change but have no effect on behavior
Yes, unfortunately it's still there. It is to mention, that syndaemon does work - disabling/enabling the touch pad, but not sensitivity. It is also strange, that upon changing FingerHigh and FingerLow it sometimes complains about integer value out of range when changing both at once to large values. When changing them one by one it allows to change the values e.g. to 200/60. (by default they are 6/1, whats the supported range?) Under Windows the pad works as expected, but under kubuntu its driving my wife crazy because she always hits the pad while typing text with quite unexpected results ;-) -- Synaptic touchpad settings do change but have no effect on behavior https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577764 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 416132] Re: black screen with intel 855GM/Xorg/HDMI
Here is the working xorg.conf (for Xorg 1.3) and the output of lspci as requested. (providing the Xorg.0.log for Xorg 1.4 is a bit more difficult, since mentioned above, i do neither get an text-screen nor an X-screen to work with). For now i attach the output of Xorg 1.3 - which works at least to some extend for me. BTW - there is another misbehavior for screens with such large resolution / projectors as monitors: often they report a senseless high dimension of the monitor - therefore the XServer thinks it can reduce the size of the fonts to 1 pixel. The workaround for this second issue is to use the Xorg -dpi 150. The configuration in xorg.conf i did is either wrong or useless. ** Attachment added: xorg.conf http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30583874/xorg.conf -- black screen with intel 855GM/Xorg/HDMI https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/416132 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

However, with an even older server/driver/VGA many more modelines where detected by the driver for this monitor-device. WIthout an xorg.conf i also get only a black screen for this setup (need to force to enable TDMI in favor of VGA for pipe A/B). further problems with this configuration: -as soon as the xrandtray tool is started (no action triggered), the screen get empty/background colored and a restart of the XServer is the only way to get the display back -as soon as any resolution/mode switch by any program is triggered the screen gets either black or background-colored and one needs to restart the XServer to get the image back The expected behavior is: -use the highest possible text mode and/or another available resolution that can be safely displayed -auto detection if only tje TDMI-pipe (HDMI or DVI) is connected and correct setup of xorg(.conf) -xrandr-tray should not be able to scramble the display permanently for the standard use-cases -switching of resolutions should work -detection of all available mode-lines ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- black screen with intel 855GM/Xorg/HDMI https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/416132 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
