This includes menu items, text in all three boxes (list of folders, list of e-mails, e-mail body) in Thunderbird (with the curious exception of "ffl" in the File menu), top menu in Chromium (but not the menu obtained by pressing the hamburger button), and the menus produced by clicking items in the system tray. Also, the apport dialog had no text except for a few capital letters. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776886] Re: Xorg freeze
This bug, alas, is still very much a reality in Oneiric. In fact, it has now gotten to the point that Xorg freezes essentially every time I try to play a YouTube video from the website (whether HTML5 or Flash). Previously in Natty, it would sometimes not cause Xorg to freeze if I used HTML5 mode, but this is no longer the case in Oneiric. This is an issue that is really annoying to me, so please let me know if you need me to provide any information to help fix this. After doing some more checking, I believe this to be related to Xinerama. When I deconfigured Xinerama, Unity worked fine. After updating to 11.04 and restarting, the login desktop appeared on both screens. However, after logging in Ubuntu 11.04, the entire left screen is blank (although the mouse cursor can move over to that side). I would have expected the desktop to extend into the left screen and for both screens to be rendered correctly. Since the Unity bar is on the left, this makes the system impossible to use or fix. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg After installing Unity, I notice that several applications are completely invisible. However, moving the mouse cursor over text fields in those applications does cause the cursor to change, and using this, it is possible to blindly use gksu. Therefore, I surmise that this is a display problem. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg My laptop screen has a monitor to the left of it with Xinerama enabled. After updating to 11.04 and restarting, the login desktop appeared on both screens. However, after logging in Ubuntu 11.04, the entire left screen is blank (although the mouse cursor can move over to that side). I would have expected the desktop to extend into the left screen and for both screens to be rendered correctly. Since the Unity bar is on the left, this makes the system impossible to use or fix. I had to remove the monitor and restart.
