Reading the bugzilla bug linked in #16, we are asked to not use gnome if we want to be able to tweak one or the other key on our keyboard, because they are not able to build a working UI on top of xmodmap. Finally I got so fed up with gnome that I switched to XFCE and never looked back. Well, % find /usr/share/X11/xkb/ -type f|wc -l 273 there are 273 files in this folder a I would definitively need a whole tutorial to change keyboard settings.
