[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1611482] Re: System freezes with noveau and GT210 card when Chromium or any video/audio application is started
Interesting that noone reacted on the bug. I was able to circumenvent the problem with the proprietary nvidia drivers. Actually I wanted to avoid this on a new installation, but I'm unable to work if the system freezes randomly if I enter a webpage with a video or launch a video podcast :-( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1611482 Title: System freezes with noveau and GT210 card when Chromium or any video/audio application is started To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1611482/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1611482] [NEW] System freezes with noveau and GT210 card when Chromium or any video/audio application is started
Public bug reported: This is a vanilla installation of 16.0.4 without any nvidia drivers, just the default noveau installation. When I launch chromium or a podcast via gpodder/totem the screen gets marbled and the machine hangs /no reaction on mouse movements or keyboard clicks or numlock on/off). The problem still remains active. After 2014-05-25 I switched to proprietary nvidia 331.38 for my GT218 [GeForce 210] graphics card and did not experience any more machine freezes and display hickups. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314405] Re: Screen freezes due to Xorg crashed SIGABRT and noveau error
My last comment seems to be wrong - the crash just happened with KDE, so no direct connection to running Unity. System worked fine before upgrading to 14.04. These are the last lines of my dmesg when the screen is freezing and I have to log into the machine to manually shutdown/reboot: [ 6835.834293] nouveau E[ PFIFO][:01:00.0] DMA_PUSHER - ch 3 [Xorg[1488]] get 0x00200327a8 put 0x0020032810 ib_get 0x01ce ib_put 0x0229 state 0x8000 (err: INVALID_CMD) push 0x00400040 [ 6898.370384] nouveau E[ DRM] GPU lockup - switching to software fbcon [ 6917.457234] nouveau E[Xorg[1488]] failed to idle channel 0x [Xorg[1488]] [ 6932.456948] nouveau E[Xorg[1488]] failed to idle channel 0x [Xorg[1488]] [ 6932.557581] soffice.bin[4240]: segfault at 8c906a80 ip 7fbe3af6946d sp 7fffee43ad00 error 4 in libc-2.19.so[7fbe3af2d000+1bc000] [ 6947.616789] nouveau E[kwin[3648]] failed to idle channel 0x [kwin[3648]] [ 6962.616620] nouveau E[kwin[3648]] failed to idle channel 0x [kwin[3648]] [ 6962.617763] nouveau E[ PFB][:01:00.0] trapped read at 0x0020012030 on channel 0x0001f95c [unknown] SEMAPHORE_BG/PFIFO_READ/00 reason: PAGE_NOT_PRESENT [ 6962.617887] nouveau E[ PGRAPH][:01:00.0] TRAP_TPDMA_RT - TP 0 - Unknown fault at address 004031 [ 6962.617919] nouveau E[ PGRAPH][:01:00.0] TRAP_TPDMA_RT - TP 0 - e0c: , e18: , e1c: , e20: 2a00, e24: 0003 [ 6962.617960] nouveau E[ PGRAPH][:01:00.0] TRAP [ 6962.617980] nouveau E[ PGRAPH][:01:00.0] ch 5 [0x001f95c000 kwin[3648]] subc 3 class 0x8597 mthd 0x15e0 data 0x [ 6962.618023] nouveau E[ PFB][:01:00.0] trapped write at 0x004031 on channel 0x0001f95c [kwin[3648]] PGRAPH/PROP/RT0 reason: PAGE_NOT_PRESENT [ 6962.657548] nouveau E[ PGRAPH][:01:00.0] magic set 0: [ 6962.657573] nouveau E[ PGRAPH][:01:00.0]0x00408604: 0x1c082f03 [ 6962.657595] nouveau E[ PGRAPH][:01:00.0]0x00408608: 0x0040aa0b [ 6962.657617] nouveau E[ PGRAPH][:01:00.0]0x0040860c: 0x8432 [ 6962.657639] nouveau E[ PGRAPH][:01:00.0]0x00408610: 0x3100 [ 6962.657660] nouveau E[ PGRAPH][:01:00.0] TRAP_TEXTURE - TP0: Unhandled ustatus 0x0003 [ 6962.657688] nouveau E[ PGRAPH][:01:00.0] TRAP [ 6962.657709] nouveau E[ PGRAPH][:01:00.0] ch 5 [0x001f95c000 kwin[3648]] subc 4 class 0x502d mthd 0x08dc data 0x042c [ 6962.657752] nouveau E[ PFB][:01:00.0] trapped write at 0x0040384200 on channel 0x0001f95c [kwin[3648]] PGRAPH/PROP/RT0 reason: PAGE_NOT_PRESENT [ 6962.873930] nouveau E[ PFB][:01:00.0] trapped read at 0x0040acc500 on channel 0x0001faa8 [Xorg[20027]] PGRAPH/TEXTURE/00 reason: PAGE_NOT_PRESENT Not sure what else I can provide to give more hints. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314405] [NEW] Screen freezes due to Xorg crashed SIGABRT and noveau error
Public bug reported: The machine just freezes in my Unity session, sometimes after minutes, sometimes after some hours. Any audio is running about ten minutes longer before the machine either reboots or Xorg is reloaded. Happens daily since updating to 14.04. I cannot change to different terminals to manually reload Xorg, the machine is blocked once the screen freezes. Trying to report the problem via aport-gtk yields an error upon upload: Apr 29 23:03:08 m whoopsie[1380]: message repeated 3 times: [ offline] Apr 29 23:03:08 m whoopsie[1380]: online Apr 29 23:03:08 m whoopsie[1380]: Parsing /var/crash/_usr_bin_Xorg.0.crash. I just installed natty on this box - a freshly installation keeps X running (with/without nvidia-proprietary modules). The bug seems to be related to the update process. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776003] [NEW] no X after upgrade to natty from 10.10 with nvidia-current 270.41.06/glx-185 - kernel-sources seem to be missing although installed
Public bug reported: ANAMNESIS I upgraded the box from a running 10.10 today. Installation went through smoothly. After reboot I didn't have any X. Via console and the help of some internet forums I reinstalled kernel headers and sources (packages: linux-source, linux-generic, linux- headers-generic). While linux-sources (2.6.38.8.22) was not installed automatically both of the other packages existed. The logs said, that module 'nvidia' could not be loaded - trying to reinstall (apt-get install --reinstall nvidia-current - 270.41.06-0ubuntu1) or reconfigure (dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-current) package nvidia-current yields the following error message: Loading new nvidia-current-270.41.06 DKMS files Building only for 2.6.38-8-generic-pae Module build for the currently running kernel was skipped since the kernel source for this kernel does not seem to be installed. EXPECTED a) Package kernel-sources should be installed during system upgrade/update if necessary for proprietary UI-drivers. Update-manager did not warn about the possibility of 'loss of UI due to nvidia-packages' or something similar. b) Cannot reconfigure or reinstall nvidia-software to get X up'n'running. Service restart gdm/x11-common does not change anything. If I change my window manager to Gnome I am able to quit my session properly /e.g. shutdown the PC/. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 491893] Re: Regression: no X-Server working after current updates with ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE]
The problem seems to be different since I'm not able to deterministically start my X even with above mentioned workaround. The manually changed xorg.conf yields to the same X-window-not-working- handling. Neither trying to create a new config nor default low-graphics mode is working. A service gmd restart seems to work randomly - sometimes the screen remains black. Last dmesg output is: [ 64.086516] mtrr: no MTRR for f000,100 found After that I changed a section in my xorg.conf to: Section "Module" # Load"glx" # Load"GLcore" # Load"v4l" EndSection an rebooted. This yields to the same X-windows-not-working-screen. But now "Start ubuntu in low-graphics mode" is working. Maybe this problem is related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274290 -- Regression: no X-Server working after current updates with ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/491893 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 491893] Re: Regression: no X-Server working after current updates with ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE]
Since there were no updates available I had to manually set driver "vesa" in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. The "Try to restore X"-utility of ubuntu didn't work - even starting with a plain new config for my hardware didn't yield to a working X session. Do you need any more files to track this regression properly? ** Attachment added: "Manually set xorg.conf, that worked after service kdm restart - ati was changed to vesa for my graphics card" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36436431/xorg.conf -- Regression: no X-Server working after current updates with ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/491893 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 274290] Re: Intrepid daily, X Server hangs on ATI Radeon 9200 SE RV280
When I tried to update the original 8.04.2 to 8.10 I still experienced a problem with X - the resolution is detected fine, but the screen goes blank if you move the mouse or hit a button. If I changed console to F1F6 and returned to X after that I was able to see the screen for the instant of a second. After that it goes blank again. In contrast to the behaviour before the tft-display doesn't go into energy saving mode but stays blank. Since I continued updating to 9.04 I'm up'n'running right now, but the proposed solution seems to only partly solve the problem. -- Intrepid daily, X Server hangs on ATI Radeon 9200 SE RV280 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274290 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
