[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1236996] Re: Nvidia Optimus laptop shows black screen with mouse after sucessful login

2013-10-09 Thread Igor Zinovyev
I have installed it using apt-get:

sudo apt-get install nvidia-319-updates

Right now when I run dpkg -l and grep for nvidia, I get only two
packages with 'ii' flag:

ii nvidia-319-updates319.60-0ubuntu1 amd64
ii nvidia-settings-319-updates319.60-0ubuntu1 amd64

I have just tried installing nvidia-prime manually, but the problem
still remains - I can not log in.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1236996] Re: Nvidia Optimus laptop shows black screen with mouse after sucessful login

2013-10-09 Thread Igor Zinovyev
I did as Alberto said, and nothing has changed. For the sake of purity I
have creted a new user and tried to log in. In this case X just
restarts, I am attaching a log file with the crash backtrace in the end.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1236996] [NEW] Nvidia Optimus laptop shows black screen with mouse after sucessful login

2013-10-08 Thread Igor Zinovyev
Public bug reported:

I have an Acer V3-772G laptop with an NVIDIA GeForce 760M video adapter
that is combined with a built-in Intel HD Graphics 4600 using the
Optimus technology.

I am running Ubuntu Saucy with the latest updates from the official
repos (nothing like xorg-edgers or swat):

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu Saucy Salamander (development branch)
Release: 13.10

What happens is the following:

I boot the laptop into GRUB using WIndows 8 troubleshooting mode and choosing
Ubuntu's bootloader as a boot device.
GRUB loads successfully, I choose the first menu item, that is, Ubuntu without
any additional options.

After that the screen turns black, I have to use the laptop brightness
controls to turn the brightness up and enter a password for the hard
drive (I use partition encryption). After that the login screen appears
in proper resolution, the login sound plays and I am able to select a
wireless network, choose between guest, remote and local login.

When I login using my local user, the screen turns black, the mouse
disappears and nothing happens. If I move the mouse, it appears once
again, but the system doesn't react to any clicks.

I can run applications though, if I login via a console using
Ctrl+Alt+F1 and running programs like:

DISPLAY=:0.0 gnome-terminal

The programs are opened on the black screen without any window borders,
but they can be moved with a mouse.

When I run nvidia-settings this way, it issues the following message:
You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X
configuration file (just run `nvidia xconfig` as root), and restart the
X server.

I have tried doing that, but the only thing that changes is that the
screen resolution drops to something around 800x600.
