These automated messages are starting to be annoying.

My hardware is already being tracked here:

Why is the status Incomplete?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1241745] [NEW] Changing the screen brightness does not work anymore in 13.10

2013-10-18 Thread Ingo Gerth
Public bug reported:

Changing the screen brightness always used to work on my HP Elitebook
8560w -- both with the function keys and in the dialog Brightness
Lock in the system settings. The environment light sensor also used to
work IIRC.

Since the update to 13.10, this stopped working. Methods I have tried
for adapting the brightness are:

* Adding GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=acpi_backlight=vendor to /etc/default/grub
* Adding GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=”acpi_osi=!Windows 2012 to /etc/default/grub

None of them worked.

Currently I am changing the brightness manually using xrandr --output
LVDS-0 --brightness 0.9. However, AFAIK this does not really change the
brightness, but only changes the contrast.

Workarounds would be much appreciated.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037483] Re: Needs NVIDIA driver 304.43

2012-08-28 Thread Ingo Gerth
It is indeed a bit ineffecient to withhold this driver for so long,
because since two weeks now I can not use Unity with the proprietary
drivers because of the incompatibility with X.ORG 1.13. This in turn
means that it is impossible for all testers using NVIDIA hardware to
test all the multi-monitor fixes recently released, because we simply
can not use a multi-monitor set-up with Nouveau.

Since recently, this problem has been reduced, but is not gone. Resuming

previously. I have a brand new laptop so I still consider 5 seconds
slow.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 717268] [NEW] Color depth set too low

2011-02-11 Thread Ingo Gerth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Since recently, the color depth on my EEE PC netbook is set to a too low
value in Natty. As there is no GUI tool to change that, this can become
a major issue for the end user. You have to picture how ugly it really
is. All gradients, such as that one in the exposé view (Super+E) is
really graded and not smooth at all. A prospective user would just find
Ubuntu very ugly and revert to his previous OS.

Hopefully it is visible on the attached screenshot. I would like to
propose high priority for this.
