Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 588027] Re: [arrandale] Xserver occasionally crashes with Intel mobile graphics (i5-430M CPU)

2010-09-30 Thread Jakob Lell
Hi,

I couldn't reproduce this bug for about two months now. Since it
happened relatively frequently before, I think the issue has been
resolved now. So feel free to close this bug.

Regards
Jakob

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 588027] Re: [arrandale] Xserver occasionally crashes with Intel mobile graphics (i5-430M CPU)

2010-06-09 Thread Jakob Lell
Now I had yet another crash directly when switching to a virtual
terminal using [ctrl]+[alt]+[F1]. I've attached a tarball with the log
files again. I remember that I had a similar crash when switching to a
virtual terminal several weeks before (with the standard 2.6.32 kernel
from lucid), but I didn't report it back then.

I've also tried switching to a virtual terminal and back to X again 100
times using chvt in a loop but I couldn't reproduce the crash this way.

Is there anything I can do to make the xserver more stable at the
moment? Since I regularly use virtualization and every xserver crash
kills all running virtual machines without any possibility to save data
or cleanly shut down the guest operating system, there is a significant
probability of data loss. Last week I had some badly corrupted files in
one guest system and I suspect that this was caused by one of this
crashes. I have already disabled compiz, but this doesn't seam to help
at all.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 588027] Re: [arrandale] Xserver occasionally crashes with Intel mobile graphics (i5-430M CPU)

2010-06-07 Thread Jakob Lell
Hi,

I've installed the new 2.6.34 kernel and now I had a new xserver crash
directly while waking up from suspend to disk. This crash doesn't happen
every time I use suspend to disk. The error message is slightly
different from last time:

Fatal server error:
Failed to submit batchbuffer: Bad file descriptor

I'm not sure whether this is still the same bug or not. In the attached
tarball you can find the log files you requested.

Regards
Jakob

The problem is that the xserver crashes happen relatively rarely (maybe
once every two or three weeks). So it's hard to find out whether the bug
depends on this factors or not.
Also, I noticed in your logs that the intel driver fails while you're
running VirtualBox. Are you running Lucid in a VM?
Yes. I'm using Lucid both for the host and guest system.
 Can you reproduce
this when you're not using VirtualBox?

At the moment I can't tell whether it also happens when I'm not using
VirtualBox.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 588027] [NEW] Xserver occasionally crashes with Intel mobile graphics (i5-430M CPU)

2010-05-31 Thread Jakob Lell
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

The Xserver sometimes crashes for no obvious reason and I get a new
login screen. Here is the relevant entry in the log file:

Fatal server error:
Failed to submit batchbuffer: Invalid argument

The system is an HP 6440b Notebook with an Intel i5-430M CPU and
integrated Intel graphics. I'm using a dual monitor setup (integrated
notebook display, 1600x900 and external monitor, 1920x1200, connected
via DVI to notebook docking station).
