The GPU initialization routine doesn't seem to 0 out its memory. Our best bet is probably to figure out how we can initialize the framebuffer contents earlier. for further feedback, it seems that the X freezes are not all they seem. It appears more to be that compiz (if it is running at the time of suspend) will stop updating the screen on resume.
