I have the same issue on xubuntu after switching to use compiz, because of screen tearing in videos.(which fixed the screen tearing). I often encounter it in wine games like Hearthstone or World of Warcraft. Happens for me too, after enabling compiz on xubuntu trusty tahr with Nvidia GTX 760 and nvidia official driver.
