[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 967091] Re: Wrong tint in flash when it uses video acceleration

2012-12-02 Thread John Schroeder
MC Reezy, did you apply one of the workarounds? You may need to remove
libvdpau1 and reinstall the Ubuntu version. I followed what pst007x
(turone) wrote on 2012-04-02. He provided the link to:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/117127/flash-video-appears-blue. The fix
at the top involves adding a repository "ppa:tikhonov/misc" to use a
special patched version of libvdpau1. To revert back to the Ubuntu
libvdpau1, I disabled the repository and then followed the steps to
enable proposed updates. Here's what I did:

Open Update Manager. Click on "Settings", then click on the "Other Software"
tab.
Uncheck (or remove) the tikhonov repository.
Remove libvdpau1 at the command line with "sudo apt-get remove libvdpau1".
Check that flash videos (e.g. YouTube) are "blue" again.
Open Update Manager. Click on "Settings", then click on the "Updates" tab.
Check the checkbox next to "Pre-released updates (precise-proposed)". Close
Software Sources.
At Update Manager, click on "Check".
There should be about 59 or so updates that come up. If you just want
libvdpau1, unselect all the updates by clicking the box next to proposed, then
look for libvdpau1 in the list and check it.
Click install updates. Once the update(s) is installed, you can go back to
software sources and deselect proposed updates.
Check that flash videos (e.g. YouTube) are fixed.

Of course, if you applied a different fix, you will have to follow
different steps to undo what you did.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1479913] Re: SRU request: fglrx.ko fails because of backported GPL-only 'pci_ignore_hotplug' symbol

2015-08-18 Thread John Schroeder
I updated to the 3.19.0-26 kernel today and the fglrx-core package
failed to install when dkms tried to install it. Switching to the fglx
packages here in the proposed branch solved my issue. It would seem that
these packages need to be promoted from the proposed branch since others
will have issues with upgrading to the kernel. (Booting to the old
kernel did not work. I guess that when the dkms failed to run for the
new kernel, it also didn't run for the old kernel.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5

2016-01-04 Thread John Schroeder
Thanks Philip. The link to Ubuntu 15.10 boot hangs when starting lightdm
helped me too. I had my system set to auto login to my user account but
I could not log out or disable the auto login without having lightdm
hang on startup. Now I can logout again!

According to that link, in the Ubuntu 15.10 release notes, they said to
uninstall fglrx before upgrading to 15.10. That would have avoided the
problem lightdm hanging.

I still have an issue where Ctrl-Alt-F1 to F6 do not work for me when
fglrx is installed but that is probably a separate issue.
