2023-04-23 Thread Jose Gómez
Had the same issue, also with nvidia 390 due to using an old gfx card in
my laptop. Had to go back to 22.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1870915] Re: Nvidia driver 418 for Focal doesn't support Kepler cards

Marking the bug as Invalid since apparently that readme file only
applies to Windows.

Even the Linux driver 440 does in fact support support Kepler cards.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1870915] [NEW] Nvidia driver 418 for Focal doesn't support Kepler cards

2020-04-05 Thread Jose Gómez
Public bug reported:

Nvidia driver 418 for Focal now installs version 430, which doesn't
support Kepler cards.

With my card (Nvidia GT 750M) I should be able to use version 418
(https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-
x86_64/418.113/README/supportedchips.html).

However, the nvidia-driver-418 package installs version 430, which
doesn't support my card (https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-
x86_64/430.50/README/supportedchips.html). Therefore, I am forced to use
version 390 instead.

Is there any reason for this redirection? Looking at the version number
it sounds like I'd be better off installing 418 instead of 390, but I am
unable to do so at this point.

So it seems to be related to the Intel driver, but I fail to understand
what no space left is this about. It is probably something related to
the graphics card (Intel Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT
Express Memory Controller Hub).

By the way, I added the nopat option to /etc/default/grub, and after
some days I have not seen the error again. Before, it was happening
around 85% of the boots.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 731810] Re: conflicting memory types - Failed to allocate primary buffer: out of memory

2011-03-21 Thread Jose Gómez
I'm having the same problem. Most of the time I boot my systems, it
hangs right after showing the kubuntu splash screen and just where it
should show the Nvidia one.

If I turn off and on again the computer a few times (2 to 10 times),
eventually it will boot.

I have seen in the Nvidia forum
(http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=169294) the suggestion to
add the nopat kernel parameter in /etc/default/grub:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=nopat

However, I don't know what it means and what side effects that
workaround could have in performance or others, or even if that could
fix the problem.

Somewhere else I have seen the suggestion to remove splash from
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT. However, I don't know what that means
either.

Using Ubuntu Natty with all the recent updates.
