[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247043] [NEW] RadeonHD Southern Islands text rendering glitch
Public bug reported: 3D rendering landed recently for Southern Islands cards. However there are some rendering glitches that happen rarely. The most common of these is text rendering glitch in Firefox. What happens is that every now and then a letter is drawn incorrectly. It may be drawn as (semi)random pixels or a zoomed part of some other piece of text. On redraw (triggered by e.g. pgup + pgdown) the text is drawn correctly. Attached is an image showing the corruption. It is taken with a camera, because trying to do a screengrab forces a redraw which clears the error. I tried drm-intel-nightly version 03-05. I suspended an woke the monitor 10 times in a row and it worked fine. There was no unexpected output in dmesg. Debug log attached. However in this case it brought the monitor up but at the wrong resolution (1024x768). That happens sometimes. Going to system settings - displays - detect displays makes it detect the resoutions properly. I'll try to get a new log which shows the case where it fails to bring the monitor up. ** Attachment added: drm-debug.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1135668/+attachment/3552483/+files/drm-debug.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1135668 Title: Intel graphics fails when bringing monitor out of sleep To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1135668/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1135668] [NEW] Intel graphics fails when bringing monitor out of sleep
Public bug reported: I have a HP LP2475w monitor. Sometimes when the system has put it to sleep, it fails in bringing it back up again. The screen remains blank. Even changing virtual terminals with ctrl+alt+f1 does not work. Ssh'ing in and running 'sudo service lightdm restart' makes it come back up again. This error shows up in dmesg: [18380.721810] [drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* EDID checksum is invalid, remainder is 125 This monitor worked flawlessly on my previous computer which had NVidia + the binary driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081636] Re: External mouse freezes when using the keyboard
** Description changed: I have a laptop with a touchpad and an external mouse. External mouse motion is ignored whenever a keyboard button is held down. This makes most computer games unplayable because you can't move and turn at the same time. The touchpad is not ignored and keeps working perfectly when a key is held down. Toggling Disable touchpad while typing in system settings does not have any effect. + This bug only happens if the mouse is plugged in when system is + starting. Removing and re-plugging the mouse makes the issue go away. + This seems to indicate that the error lies in the initialisation code. + ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-19.30-generic 3.5.7 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-19-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: - + ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu6 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, vpswitch, snap, mousepoll, resize, place, move, wall, grid, regex, imgpng, session, gnomecompat, animation, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, workarounds, scale, expo, ezoom, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz Date: Wed Nov 21 16:45:47 2012 DistUpgraded: 2012-08-06 14:07:28,394 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: quantal DistroVariant: ubuntu EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: - Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) -Subsystem: Apple Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064979] [NEW] Mouse cursor teleports between two different locations
Public bug reported: Using newest Quantal the mouse cursor started behaving strangely. When I move the mouse, the cursor jumps back and forth between two locations, which can up to a centimeter apart. Both cursor locations move according to mouse motion. If I push the cursors to the top left corner, they overlap. However in use they start to slowly drift apart again. This is not a rendering bug. The cursor actually moves. This can be verified like this: Suppose the two mouse locations are A and B and there are application two buttons called 1 and 2. These buttons are separate, they have some space (or another widget) between them. Then one moves the cursor so location A is over button 1 and location B is over button 2. Moving the mouse even a tiny distance makes the cursor jump between these two locations randomly. When location A is active, pressing the mouse button activates button 1. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 929408] [NEW] X does not send multitouch touch end events properly
Public bug reported: A test app that demostrates this bug can be downloaded from here: lp:~jpakkane/+junk/touchpad-tester. My setup is that I have a Magic Trackpad and a Macbook Pro multitouch trackpad. The test app prints out this: Using device id 2, Virtual core pointer. Potential device id 11, bcm5974. Potential device id 13, Apple Wireless Trackpad. If I use device ids 11 or 13, stuff works. Device id 2 leads to problems, though. I put down five fingers on one touchpad and then five on the other. Then I lift all fingers up simultaneously. The end result is that I only receive TouchEnds for roughly half of the touches. The others keep on existing. Possible reasons for this bug include X not sending touch end events or X sending touch end events with a different device id than touch start events. Tests were run using precise. ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/929408 Title: X does not send multitouch touch end events properly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/929408/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 832624] Re: cursor jumping to screen border
If you look at the second video very carefully you can see that the cursor does not jump to the corner when the selection expands. What probably happens is that the application that does the background selection does not handle XInput valuators properly. An extremely similar bug was fixed in Qt recently. The reason this bug does not happen in Arch is that it does not provide this new XInput data so it uses classic X cursor location. To fix this bug we need to find out which app does XFCE desktop selection, how it reads XInput data and fix that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/832624 Title: cursor jumping to screen border To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-foundations/+bug/832624/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 832624] Re: cursor jumping to screen border
When I play back the recording, the behaviour is the following (on both natty and oneiric): A swipe from bottom to top. Then it stands still for a while and jitters a bit within a radius of ̃~5 pixels. A second swipe from bottom to top. Then jitter as above. After this the cursor jumps around different places a couple of times and then the recording ends. Is this what is supposed to happen? If yes, then this would seem to be a kernel/device driver bug, because these movements are in the evemu trace file. It never jumps to any corners that I can see. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core
The reason Krita fails is that it uses the high resolution location and not cursor location. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core
The Krita code that deals with tablet events seems to be this in kis_canvas_controller.cpp: - void KisCanvasController::Private::emitPointerPositionChangedSignals(QEvent *event) { if (!coordinatesConverter) return; QPoint pointerPos; QMouseEvent *mouseEvent = dynamic_castQMouseEvent*(event); if (mouseEvent) { pointerPos = mouseEvent-pos(); } else { QTabletEvent *tabletEvent = dynamic_castQTabletEvent*(event); if (tabletEvent) { pointerPos = tabletEvent-pos(); } } The obvious failure point being that if the argument is neither a mouse nor a tablet event, then pointerPos is uninitialized. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core
Attached is a quick patch that inspects that valuator accesses do not go out of bounds. I changed only the motion and button accesses and not the Wacom one. The reason being that it seems to loop over all data so it should be valid. I have not tested the patch in any way, so it might not even compile. I have not tried replacing system Qt ever so I reckon someone with more experience ought to try it first. As far as the sporadical thing goes, the situation for me is the reverse: I don't get any errors for pressure but I do get it for tilt. Since my tablet does not seem to support tilt, its values should always be zero. There's also the case that I get different behavior on evemu-traces than the real tablet. Xorg log does say I am using Wacom input module. ** Patch added: valuator-range.diff https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/799202/+attachment/2425854/+files/valuator-range.diff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/799202 Title: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/799202/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I can confirm that on my Wacom Bamboo Pen Touch the behaviour is exactly the same as j-b-m. The only addition being that I get the huge rectangles only when I stop moving the pen (but keep it touching the surface). My tablet probably does not provide tilt information so could you try the following. First run xinput list which shows you all input devices. Check which number it has given to your stylus. Then do xinput list idnum. This shows you which valuators provide the tilt information. These are probably 3 and 4. Then run xinput test idnum and move your stylus. What values do you get for tilt axes? No matter what I do, I can't get any other value than 0 for these. Which would indicate that the huge rectangle values are generated somewhere outside X. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/799202 Title: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/799202/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core
I looked into Qt and there are three locations where x and y tilt values are obtained. They are all in qapplication_x11.cpp in the function QETWidget::translateXinputEvent. The first one is this (I have removed quite a lot of lines, check the original to be sure): s = XQueryDeviceState(X11-display, static_castXDevice *(tablet-device)); for (j = 0; j s-num_classes; j++) { [stuff] if (!proximity) { xTilt = short(vs-valuators[WAC_XTILT_I]); yTilt = short(vs-valuators[WAC_YTILT_I]); pressure = vs-valuators[WAC_PRESSURE_I]; So it loops over something(?) and grabs things. Then a bit later it does this: if (motion) { xTilt = (short) motion-axis_data[3]; yTilt = (short) motion-axis_data[4]; where motion is an XDeviceMotionEvent. Immediately afte that it does } else if (button) { xTilt = (short) button-axis_data[3]; yTilt = (short) button-axis_data[4]; where button is an XDeviceButtonEvent. Based on this the potential bugs are that either Qt does masked valuators wrong or the X server gives incorrect data in event structures. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core
This is getting weirder and weirder. I updated my packages and tried again. Now the behaviour is different. Just adding the struct elements does *not* break pressure. Previously it did. I verified on previous test results I had written down with an actual pen and paper. What happens now is slightly different. Patch 503 has three different parts: two code changes and the struct change. If I take out the first code part, I get pressure. Taking out only the second code part does give pressure. However I cannot for the life of me understand why this happens. The code in question does not handle pressure in any way, only coordinates. Somehow the first code block triggers loss of pressure. If I play the same recording without a Krita window, I get a drag selection box. So transforming the pen to movement+mouse click works. I suspect that this bug may be platform specific. Can everyone tell what platforms they are using? My tests are run on 32 bit x86 oneiric. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/799202 Title: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/799202/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core
The cause of (some part) of this bug is somewhere else. I removed all code from patch 503 and left only the part that adds new fields to structs. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core
I build my own X server packages without patches 504, 503 or 502. In those cases pressure is properly recognised from both evemu recordings. With patch 502 it is not. I get the same behaviour: regular oneiric X does not draw anything on the trace files, taking out patches 503 and 504 makes things work. However there is one major difference. Another difference: when running an X server with all patches, Krita draws nothing when I use my Wacom, but does draw if I replay either one of the recordings. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 810971] [NEW] External monitor causes screen corruption
Public bug reported: I run Oneiric alpha 2 64+mac live CD. Plugging in an external monitor with a DVI cable causes the screen corruption. The laptop's main screen splits into two halves.
