[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1173217] Re: Screen edges are in the middle of the screen! AMD Radeon HD7570M
Manual catalyst installation done, no errors. When I have two screens connected, everything works fine (even skype loads). However, when I disconnect a screen and reboot, the desktop and all windows are highly distorted and the mouse doesn't point where it seems to. I attached a picture. The system is not usable like that. I will return to 13.4 from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx (it is the driver that causes the least problems) In brief, -> open source driver still not working -> catalyst works for either two screens (manual installation described above) or one screen (amd 13.4 driver) => There is still no solution that allows to connect / disconnect a screen without completely reinstalling the driver :-( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173217 Title: Screen edges are in the middle of the screen! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1173217] Re: Screen edges are in the middle of the screen! AMD Radeon HD7570M
Thank you for your anwer. -> The bug report above contains catalyst because I was unable to get to a working GUI without it (and when I try to send bug report from console, it logs in with wrong information and I don't know how to change that). -> emailcustomercare just says that their driver comes "as-is" and that's it :-( Following your instructions: I uninstalled the driver following the instructions under Removing Catalyst/fglrx of your cchtml link. -> First reboot: Everything works great -> Second reboot: Same problems again, this time even 2x complete system hang (NumLock and CapsLock not responding, Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and Ctrl+Alt+Delete not working). -> Choosing Advanced Ubuntu Options -> Recovery mode -> Resume boot, I finally succeeded getting to a working GUI (GNOME Fallback). I created an error report with the actual problem situation (no catalyst installed) and marked it as a duplicate of this bug. Link: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1176053 I will now install catalyst manually, following your instructions. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173217 Title: Screen edges are in the middle of the screen! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1162853] Re: trouble with free driver on AMD Radeon HD 7570M
So now I tried to install the Xorg driver via Sources, then I did apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-ati. This time, the login screen won't even work (see attachments). I had to connect an external screen in order to see something. The external screen is "too large" on its bottom. Note that my version is 1:6.99.99~git20120913.8637f772-0ubuntu1, just like the one out-of-the-box. However, it does work out-of-the-box and it does not work with the updates installed. Please help me out. ** Attachment added: "This picture shows the login screen after --reinstall treatment" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/1162853/+attachment/3626068/+files/DSC03892.JPG -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1162853 Title: trouble with free driver on AMD Radeon HD 7570M To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/1162853/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1162853] [NEW] trouble with free driver on AMD Radeon HD 7570M
Public bug reported: Unity just shows blank black screen with mouse, this is why I'm currently on LXDE. The screen is divided on about 1/3 horizontally, as shown in the picture. At that point of the screen, the right edge ends and the next pixel is the left edge. To move the mouse from right to left, I have to go out to the right of the physical screen and the mouse will pop back in from the left. Same thing with lightdm. The proprietary driver is causing much trouble too, but different nature. IMPORTANT: Out of the box, everything works perfectly with free driver. When installing the updates, troubles start. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1073634] [NEW] iMac: Screen resolution not working after upgrade to 12.10
Public bug reported: My iMac worked fine under 12.10 (with NVIDIA driver I believe, but not sure), then I did the upgrade to 12.10. On reboot, X said that the graphics are not detected correctly. I chose to reset the graphics and rebooted from tty1 that worked, but bad resolution. This time, it started up, but Unity was not loaded. Also bad screen resolution. I killed x with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and came to the lightdm login screen (bad resolution too). LXDE and Gnome Classic both work, but not Unity. All of them have the same bad resolution. I can't find any place where I could install proprietary driver like I did in 12.04. For some reason, there's an AMD Catalyst Control Center, but when I fire it up, it says there's no driver installed. How do I get my screen fixed?
