[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 346028] Re: [ATI driver specific] Ubuntu Jaunty hangs after usplash with fglrx 8.600 or 8.6002

2009-06-11 Thread Liuk
Which is the Fix Released?

I've resolved with aticonfig --acpi-services=off as you can read here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-
installer/+bug/314600/comments/34

Thanks,
Luca

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 314600] Re: fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic

2009-06-10 Thread Liuk
Hi Dominik,
good to know, thank you.
Please can you provide the following info:
- Xorg version provided by OpenSUSE
- Kernel version provided by OpenSUSE
- Exact version of flgrx driver provided by OpenSUSE

I really cannot understand what is causing the kernel BUG with my
combination of ATI HD3650, Xorg 1.6.0, fglrx 8.612 (built from Catalyst
9.5), Kernel 2.6.28-12 (tryed also 2.6.27-11).

Cheers,
Luca

Under openSUSE 11.1 (64bit) it seems that with catalyst 9.5 the problem
is gone (I am using an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650). The X server starts
up just fine without using aticonfig --acpi-services=off. (This also
solves a problem with the HDMI output (hot-plug) recognition.)

I am sorry, that I cannot test this under Ubuntu at the moment. As the
problem seems to be rather distribution independent, this information
 might be valuable anyway.

Status in “fglrx-installer” source package in Ubuntu: Confirmed

 Bug description:
I am currently using Jaunty with the latest 2.6.28-4-generic #8-Ubuntu
x86-64 kernel, and any time I try to use fglrx 8.552 or 8.561 (apt-pinned to
Intrepid X server and libdrm2), I get the system hanging at a black screen
when I try to start X, followed by a kernel panic after I try pressing a few
keys. See attached logfile for a serial-console stacktrace.

Interestingly enough, fglrx reports itself as version 8.56.4, which seems a
bit mismatched from the package version number 8.561. In addition, using
the official ATI installer to buildandinstallpkg Ubuntu/intrepid within the
Intrepid LiveCD gives the same result.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 314600] Re: fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic

2009-06-10 Thread Liuk
Great Dominik! A BIG thank you! I was getting crazy about this, you
avoided me a downgrade to 8.10 :-)

Turning acpi-services=off it seems to work!

Ctrl-Alt-F1 switch to VC works
Suspend and resume works
Compiz works
VMware Workstation 3D acceleration works

I've only a message like this from the kernel:
[fglrx:fireglAsyncioIntEnableMsgHandler] *ERROR* interrupt source ff66 is
not supported on this hardware (return code = 1)

but for the moment it seems harmless

And, not less important, now my laptop is back to a normal temperature!
Look at this:

l...@spock:~$ acpi -t
 Battery 0: Full, 100%
 Thermal 0: ok, 16.0 degrees C
 Thermal 1: ok, 38.0 degrees C
 Thermal 2: ok, 46.0 degrees C
 Thermal 3: ok, 34.3 degrees C
 Thermal 4: ok, 40.0 degrees C
 Thermal 5: ok, 30.0 degrees C

Please note that after the upgrade to Jaunty with the radeonhd driver,
the Thermal 2 values was always between 56 and 62 degrees!!! and my
battery duration dropped down from 3 hours to less than 2 hours!

Thanks again.
HTH to others with the same issue.
Cheers,
Luca

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 346028] Re: [ATI driver specific] Ubuntu Jaunty hangs after usplash with fglrx 8.600 or 8.6002

2009-06-03 Thread Liuk
Hi,
I've upgrade to Jaunty my HP EliteBook 8530p with an ATI HD3650 and there is no
way to use the fglrx driver provided by Catalyst 9.4 **AND** 9.5.
I've already fired the following bugs to ATI:

http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1550
http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1568

now with the 9.5 I can grab the kernel message and I can safely reboot
the machine. See the dmesg attached for the kernel messages.

I've tryed with the following kernel:
2.6.28-11 and -12 from Jaunty
2.6.27-11 from Hardy

same result.

Since with 8.10 the flgrx worked like a charm and was very stable (with
Kernel 2.6.27-11), I suppose that the main problem is the
incompatibility with Xorg 1.6.

It should be nice to have a backport of Xorg 1.5.x to Jaunty :-)

I've already tryed to install a recompiled Xorg 1.5 from
http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/3942 but it did not worked.

Now I'm using the radeonhd driver (version 1.2.5 from PPA and latest DRM
from git) but it is missing 3D acceleration.

The support from ATI is not so responsive.
