[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 390196] Re: tablet not working any more since upgrade to 9.04
Bernard, your tablet seems to be recognized by HAL. What could be the problem is that some old 8.04 (or earlier) configuration is preventing your tablet to work with the way 9.04 configures it. Even though you said you didn't configure anything for your tablet, your xorg.conf says it has been configured, maybe by Ubuntu 8.04 or earlier. For example, I've already seen that commented lines (maybe when there's double # like the Tablet PC lines in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but not sure) in xorg.conf prevented my Intuos 3 from working on an upgraded system. You could download a Jaunty Live CD, boot it, and in the Live session install wacom-tools, then plug your USB Wacom tablet and try if it works (and also have a look at /dev/input/ and /dev/input/by-id). Same with a Karmic Live CD in the event the Jaunty one didn't recognize your tablet. However, I doubt there'll be any problem, since AFAIK your tablet model has been supported for a while. Then if it works, backup your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and then edit it, removing all commented lines. Or, better, if you don't mind switching to a virtual terminal and using the command line, delete it (after you made a backup), then sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop, recreate xorg.conf with sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg. There might also be a conflict with an old/custom HAL .fdi file in /etc/hal/fdi/policy/ (should have no file containing the name wacom). Check you also have /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/10-linuxwacom.fdi and no /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/ one. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 286028] Re: wacomcpl doesn't work when the stylus is configured by HAL (.fdi method)
It's a patch, but it fixes the wrong problem. The bug is in wacomcpl, that's the program that should be patched. Going back to old style strings alleviates the problem for some users, but doesn't solve it long-term, since people can have different tablets plugged in at a time, and/or multiple tools for each tablets, and want to keep settings separate for them (going back would also prevent the whole stack from improving, since at least now there's no excuses for a graphic program not to allow separate options for separate pens/tools). Else we'd have stylus, cursor, eraser and pad by default, since it was trivial to fix by shipping a slightly different .fdi. Now if there's a wacomcpl patch, then that would be perfect (other applications already support the more precise strings used by default now by the linuxwacom drivers)! Else, other graphical configuration programs exists, the just need one or two more functions to become complete wacomcpl replacements. -- wacomcpl doesn't work when the stylus is configured by HAL (.fdi method) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286028 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to wacom-tools in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365420] Re: wacom pressure doesn't work in QT applications
The bug against wacom-tools was invalid, and should have been reported against qt, not wacom-tools. Anyway, it's fixed in Karmic, with libqtcore 4.5.2 that's in the repositories (my version is 4.5.2-0ubuntu5), tried with Krita, see attached screenshot. I don't have a clue if it would be possible to get a Stable Release Update for Jaunty or any other release though, but if someone really think there's a possibility to fix it for Jaunty too the bug should be opened against libqtcore4 (or something similar, I'm no Qt expert), not wacom-tools. Then try to find which patch fixed that in Qt, and see if the patch would also work in Jaunty, and do the rest of the SRU process. Karmic final is only in 28 days though, and has an updated linuxwacom driver (0.8.4.1), so I'm not sure how many Wacom tablet users are going to stick with Jaunty. ** Attachment added: Screenshot-Preferences - Krita.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/32866865/Screenshot-Preferences%20-%20Krita.png -- wacom pressure doesn't work in QT applications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365420 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to wacom-tools in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Matthieu's debdiff works for me on an Intuos3 tablet with either Inkscape of the Gimp. Input 100% matches the cursor, with pressure still there as expected. Note that the patches only fix the Screen mode (most used mode, only way to get a decent precision with the devices), the Window mode still draws off cursor. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 405800] Re: Please update wacom to 0.8.4-1 version
Ronan, the problem you're talking about in post #8 isn't that the .fdi file fails to identify the tablet - it does identify them, it's just that it now uses longer (=more precise) identifiers, which wacomcpl hasn't yet been patch to accept. The old identifiers (stylus/eraser/etc...) were the same whatever the model of tablet you had, which means all tablets plugged on a system would get the same parameters (which is wrong, you obviously don't want your Bamboo tablet to have the same setup as your Cintiq). So the bug is in wacomcpl, not elsewhere. As an alternative, you can use wacom-utility (http://www.gtk- apps.org/content/show.php?action=contentcontent=104309) which recognises the new strings (but doesn't yet have all the features wacomcpl had), or change your fdi file with the one provided http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7234134postcount=176 -- Please update wacom to 0.8.4-1 version https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/405800 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to wacom-tools in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
