In a previous post i asserted that turning off gnome-screensaver stops these crashes from happening. This turns out not to be the case. Unfortunately, I am having trouble capturing an xtrace of the crash -- it almost seems as if xtrace itself somehow protects the driver from the crash! -- anyway, I'm finding that I can sometimes recover from the crash by switching to VT1 and running DISPLAY=:0 unity DISPLAY=:0 xtrace compiz --replace ~/trace.txt But usually I'll end up with some problems, like all window management being switched off so that it seems as though compiz isn't running at all. And sometimes this attempt at recovery will fail almost completely, in that I just end up with an unchanging image of my desktop wallpaper (sometimes the active windows will flash briefly when I switch to VT7, then disappear behind the wallpaper. I'm really not sure what the next steps in diagnosis are, htough I'll keep trying to capture an xtrace. This is on a Lenovo Thikpad T410, wiht intel graphics (of course) the i965 driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 921094] [NEW] Mouse clicks impossible in central region of screen
Public bug reported: I'm running into a problem on Oneiric with my THikpad T410, in which it becomes impossible to click in a certain region of the screen -- fairly central both verticlaly and horizontel. two-finger mouse scrolling also fials to work, indictaing that there's some general mouse button override coming into play. I notice it most frequently in firefox and chrome, but once it's happened I can verify that it also is occurring e.g. in emacs. This behavious starts somewhat unpredictably but doesn't seem to halt even on e.g. resume from sleep. Clicking is impossible with both the upper (trackpoint) and lower (trackpad) buttons on my laptop, which are associated with different pointing devices, so I don't think this is a hardware or driver problem, but of course I can't be sure. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 572986] [NEW] lose X display periodiclly; switching VT's restores it
Public bug reported: after recent updates I get this bug periodically. X display disappears and is replaced by error-log output; in the log I see this message: [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id switching VT's restores the display, but this behaviour repeats on average about every 10 minutes. Around the same time I started having problems with hotkeys as well -- X hijacks Alt-Fn and Alt-Tab as though they wre Ctrl-Alt-Fn and Ctrl-Alt- Tab - reporting that now in a separate bug but noting here in case it's related. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456547] [NEW] fonts not displayed in certain apps
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg after upgrading intrepid-jaunty-intrepid, i had serious font problems on my thinkpad x31 (radeon mobility M6 LY), such that many paplications (openoffice, emacs, and others) didn't display fonts at all when run under non-gnome desktops. i've now wiped the drive and installed karmic clean; now the problem is partly fixed, but certain programs won't display fonts at all, even when run undergnome. the ost crippling of these for me is the goggles music manager, which uses the libfox1.6 toolkit. But the same problem is evident in the transient system messages (e.g. nm-applet's connected/disconnected messages, evolution's 'you have mail' bubbles). I'd love to help track this bug down but i'm not sure where to start. please let me know what i might do to help. thanks, matt ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Tue Oct 20 14:09:47 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 Lsusb: Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub MachineType: IBM 2672CBU Package: xserver-xorg 1:7.4+3ubuntu5 PccardctlIdent: Socket 0: no product info available Socket 1: no product info available PccardctlStatus: Socket 0: no card Socket 1: no card ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic root=UUID=416a7883-6c4d-4b46-9a74-9d12b1c110fb ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-14.48-generic RelatedPackageVersions: xserver-xorg 1:7.4+3ubuntu5 libgl1-mesa-glx 7.6.0-1ubuntu4 libdrm2 2.4.14-1ubuntu1 xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2 xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.12.2-2ubuntu5 SourcePackage: xorg Uname: Linux 2.6.31-14-generic i686 XsessionErrors: (gnome-settings-daemon:5287): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_propagate_error: assertion `src != NULL' failed (gnome-settings-daemon:5287): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_propagate_error: assertion `src != NULL' failed (openbox:5229): Openbox-WARNING **: Openbox is configured for 2 desktops, but the current session has 1.
