2022-10-14 Thread Michał Sawicz
Can confirm this works fine on kinetic:

Vs. jammy:

I suppose we may need to work with a PPA then.

@xypron what do you think?

2022-08-14 Thread Michał Sawicz
@tjaalton, but it works just fine on focal in our tests… can we not
enable radeon/-si without enabling gallium at the same time? Maybe I'm
simplifying things, but we're running Mir GL tests on focal with
riscv64/AMD GPU just fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1668429] Re: X apps (LibreOffice, Thunderbird) fail to launch with failure to open display (no Xmir is running)

2017-03-07 Thread Michał Sawicz
Nope, shared Xmir not a solution, we need each client to connect in a
separate session, to securely identify it. And there's security
considerations for that as well.

Not to mention gtk, for example, just probes available display servers
and uses the first one that works, which could very well result in them
running under X, when they should run natively.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1521403] Re: Unity8 crashes on suspend/standby with SIGSEGV in Screen::makeCurrent (./src/platforms/mirserver/screen.cpp:406)

2017-01-24 Thread Michał Sawicz
There definitely are usecases for applications requesting display power
changes, but yes they need to be filtered/mangled by the shell, and only
applied when the requesting app, and session, are in focus.

Whether that should be a privileged operation, I'm not sure. As long as
the user can easily escape it (Alt+Tab, power button etc.), I don't
think we need to protect this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1620934] Re: Qt/QML apps don't render any more (logs say "QEGLPlatformContext: eglMakeCurrent failed: 3001")

2016-09-09 Thread Michał Sawicz
The only relevant piece there seems to be qtmir, but looking at its
changelog [1] there's no related changes there...

@dinamic, can you please look at /var/log/apt/history.log and try to
estimate which upgrade broke it?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1607199] Re: Add support for apps supplying their icons at run-time

2016-08-01 Thread Michał Sawicz
That kind of depends on what we want to allow apps to do - do we want
them to be able to animate their icon?

It does open an attack vector when apps can start impersonating another
and steal credentials, for example.

A static icon has the advantage of being visible on the store - and it
will always be the same on your device.

Shouldn't this be part of the window management policy? To not rely on

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1543351] Re: osk with puritine apps

2016-02-14 Thread Michał Sawicz
I'm worried there's more to it than that. IIUC today Qt apps talk to the
OSK directly on dbus, thanks to this being set on its env:

QT_IM_MODULE=maliitphablet

The input does not go through normal input systems at all, it goes
~directly from OSK to the input field. Even Qt apps would need to poke
out of it to comm with the OSK process. Non-Qt apps would need their own
maliit support implemented...

There may be other ways, we could make the OSK fall back to generating
real input events if there's no app on the other end (that might
actually be the most versatile approach), or we could have XMir proxy
the input...

Long-term we'd probably like for the input comm to go through Mir over
some standardized API so we can support 3rd party OSKs (unless we
actually say maliit is the "standardized API").

Lotsa questions, not many answers.

Attaching evemu recording for your playback pleasure. Two machines - an
ExoPC and a Lenovo s10-3t, 'breaking.record' are what actually resulted
in triggering this bug, corresponding log from unity-2d-launcher, that
handled the gestures, attached.
