[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1879153] [NEW] amdgpu prevents poweroff

2020-05-17 Thread Morten Anton Bach Sjøgren
Public bug reported:

Turning off Kubuntu 20.04 stops short of actually powering off the
machine.

The monitors goes into suspend mode, but PC is still powered on and I
have to hold the power button in to turn it off.

I initially suspected an ACPI problem, but I found these two errors in
/var/log/syslog after turning the computer on again:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1848900] Re: [amdgpu] Blank display with Eoan Ermine live DVD on Ryzen 3 2200G

2019-11-14 Thread Morten Kjeldgaard
My machine is mainly running as file server at the moment and I don't
want to play around with kernels. I used to build kernels in the past
and I remember how hard it is to get one that works. I'll wait till
there's a fix in the main-line kernel. They can't release LTS 20.04 with
this bug so it must come soon.

2019-11-12 Thread Morten Kjeldgaard
@kaihengfegn I guess I need this one:

  linux-image-
unsigned-5.4.0-050400rc7-generic_5.4.0-050400rc7.201911102031_amd64.deb

as well as the corresponding headers and modules.

but what does "unsigned" mean?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1417826] Re: display acting up. overlay .. ?

2015-05-05 Thread Morten Hundevad
Ether it is coincidence scrolling issue is gone as it randomly seems to
be other times after reboot. or it is related. to the status bar.

It is late so i need to go to bed i can try disable it tomorrow and see
if it returns.

But enable auto hide and i do NOT have side ways scrolling issue.

Is there anything more info i can provide. this issue is really a pain
in the behind =(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1417826] Re: display acting up. overlay .. ?

2015-05-05 Thread Morten Hundevad
well i did what you asked and tried GNOME Flashback (compiz) and the
error is kind of also there. not excactly the same but very similar.

only differance seems to be that the cursor seems to match the grafic
but grafics is distorted.

Now after switching back to unity every thing is foo baa and i cant make
it work again (SIDE WAYS SCROLLING ISSUE, is now constant even after
several reboots) =( . i have tried to reset compiz to no change.

i have taken some screen shots showing another strange behavior that may
or may not be relevant.

screen shots to follow in next few posts with description

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1417826] Re: display acting up. overlay .. ?

2015-05-05 Thread Morten Hundevad
Now here is the same thing, again but where it is set to display on both
screens (DEFAULT)

on the external monitor (left) you can see that the browser is UNDER the
lancher bar AND if you also look you can see the top of the browser is
missing as well it is UNDER the top system bar, this was ALSO not in
14.04 but was also in 14.10 and also here in 15.04 (i dont remember how
it fixed it but apparently this was wiped when i reset compiz).

So i must have changed something else i forgot.

So to sum up

i now have constant scrolling side ways behavior.
still without fix in plase the display is incorrect.

-Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1417826] Re: display acting up. overlay .. ?

2015-05-04 Thread Morten Hundevad
Well this one also came back after this switch to gonme and back

(Reboot fixed it again)

You can see the cursor is on both monitor, and the left monitor scrolls
sideways to also display right monitor content on the left.

--GOME TEST
NOTES--
Error did not happen in gnome, but i now remember why i cant use gnome.

If a move window to laptop monitor and try to maximize it it will be
moved to left monitor and be large there. (Same thing go for flash and
games and video in full screen) get get it ti sick on Right monitor

If monitor's position is switched position of the problem is also
switched. (meaning that full screen is ALWAYS left regardless if it is
build in monitor or external in that location.)

--GOME TEST
NOTES--

provide a WORKAROUND?

I have not tried bumbleebee in 15.04 but i almost lost linux last time i
tried it ni 14.10 so don't really wanna go down that road again

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1417826] Re: display acting up. overlay .. ?

2015-05-02 Thread Morten Hundevad
Not sure how to recreate it. I am using default system.

I have not installed many extra things other than few php and android
developing tools and play on linux and steam and things of that nature.

compizconfig - general - display settings - Register output

by default this is checked (detect_outputs)

if i check this then the error happens where monitor 1 and two over
lap. and appear as one.

I have to manually configure outputs

tested 346 same thing

after then trying 304 my second monitor no totaly stopped working.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1417826] Re: display acting up. overlay .. ?

2015-04-30 Thread Morten Hundevad
I am using a laptop do only have one card, I am using nvidia driver
because I need 3d acceleration.

I have to use comprez (may be wrong spelling)

To manually definitely dual screen layout, if I remove this manually
configured layout it fails. Constant.

With fix in place I sometimes get odd behavior where both screens are on
the same monitor and it scrolls sideways. (this could of cause be error
in my manually config method)

Do this awnser you'r question?

2015-02-02 Thread Morten Hundevad
ok i figured out how to use it..

I can confirm that unchecked detect_outputs

and configuring outputs to match screen revolution. Fix the
overlapping issue.

Under ubunto system settings i also had to correct the settings to match
config in outputs

-Thanks

2015-02-02 Thread Morten Hundevad
well i figured out what you meant by ccsm it is just the manager.. but i
am still unable to find the setting you referee to ?

Is it detect_outputs ? if so.. what do i need to put in the output
array ?

Currently it is:
1680x1050+0+0

left is
1920x1080 (built in)

right is
1920x1200 (external)

I do not know what to put in the array ? i cant find info about it
anywhere. and if i change it and reboot or logout and back in .. it
seems to be reset and not there anymore.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1349121] Re: Non-existent display detected using nouveau driver (Samsung Laptop Nvidia GeForce GT 520M) (Ubuntu 14.04.01)

2014-07-31 Thread Morten Frisch
I'll have to admit that I was a bit confused in the end there after all
purging, reinstalling and installing. Checked my gpu-manager log now and
it says that neither nouveau nor nvidia are loaded. Just Intel. In the
jockey or 'additional drivers' interface it says nouveau. As I
understand it there is no xorg.conf file like there was in the good old
days where the driver to use is specified. Seems the situation is all
but clear at the moment.

Seems the bumblebee package doesn't have any driver specific
dependencies. The Nvidia package is purged and completely out of my

2014-07-30 Thread Morten Frisch
I have since solved my issue by purging and reinstalling nouveau
together with bumblebee. (http://www.bumblebee-
project.org/install.html) My laptop was also, in addition to having the
display issue, running abnormally hot since I installed 14.04. Bumblebee
solved both issues in one go. How or why, I have no idea though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1349121] [NEW] Non-existent display detected using nouveau driver (Samsung Laptop Nvidia GeForce GT 520M) (Ubuntu 14.04.01)

2014-07-27 Thread Morten Frisch
Public bug reported:

Samsung NP300V3A (Laptop) | Nvidia GF119M [GeForce GT 520M] | Ubuntu
14.04.01 LTS

Xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu8 | ubuntu-drivers-common 1:0.2.91.5 | xserver-xorg-
video-nouveau 1:1.0.10-1ubuntu2

Unexpected 'ghost' display appears in settings when no extra display is
connected.

There is a non-existing display detected, known as Unknown Display.
The bug is all in all very similar, if not a duplicate, of bug #1296020.
However, as I am using Nouveau rather than Nvidia-331 and have different
hardware, I thought it better to make a new report. The bug renders GDM
impossible to use while Lightdm works. When logging in to Gnome Shell,
the screen goes black from time to time (upon loading the shell), this I
can solve by using the laptop hardware keys for switching video output.

I tried the proprietary drivers and the fix committed to trusty-proposed
due to bug #1296020 (ubuntu-drivers-common 1:0.2.91.6) with no avail. It
seems that whatever solved the issue for a non-existing display for
Nvidia-331 users is not causing the problem for those who are using
Nouveau.

2014-04-07 Thread Morten
I have now installed the latest 64-bit Mac (AMD64) desktop image from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ so I am now running Ubuntu 14.04
LTS.
Unfortunately the problem has not been solved.
After suspend and resume the display is still broken.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1303305] [NEW] Broken colors after suspend/resume

2014-04-06 Thread Morten
Public bug reported:

After suspending and then resuming on my iMac, I get a weird distortion of
colors that renders the screen unreadable.
This is on a fresh installation of 64 bit Ubuntu 13.10 which is set up to dual
boot with OSX by using Refind, i.e. it is an EFI boot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1303305] Re: Broken colors after suspend/resume

2014-04-06 Thread Morten
I have collected data with 'ubuntu-bug xorg' as requested by penalvch.
Should I run the same command - or someting else - AFTER an unsuccesful resume
as well?

I've set this bug report to 'Invalid', because I realize that I should
create the bug report, when my machine is just resumed from suspend. I
will create a new bug report with the right data.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549727] Re: [10.04] Touchpad stops working after login

2010-05-11 Thread Morten
don't know if this helps anybody but i have the problem only when i am
log-in to my main usr account. ive created another to test it and the
touchpad worked flawless. (also if i only chance the user without a
reboot) so the problem must be somewhere in the user settings...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549727] Re: [10.04] Touchpad stops working after login

2010-05-03 Thread Morten Minke
This happens to me too on a HP Pavilion dv9000 (dv9845ed) but I have
some additional info:

When I boot up with the touchpad disabled, I can use my external USB mouse to
login.
The external mouse works fine and I can do everything, however
When I now activate the touchpad, my mouse stops working too!!! and the
touchpad is not working correctly either. I can disable the touchpad again, but
the mouse still does not work properly. I can use the right mouse button (see
context sensitive menus, etc.) but the left mouse button does nothing.
The only thing I can do is use ctrl-alt-delete, click with my external mouse on
suspend, then the button gets highlighted (so it does see a mouse event) but it
does not trigger the action!!! I have to press the 'enter' key to really put it
in suspend.
After waking up from suspend, everything works normal again.

I have tried the 'sudo rmmod...' commands, and they seem to fix this
problem, but I have only tried this a few times now. It's also not a
real solution because now I have to run a script everytime I login to
prevent my mouse/touchpad from becoming unresponsive.

If anyone has an idea / suggestion how I can give more info which can
help, pls let me know.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 351186] Re: [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] [ubuntu 9.10] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled

2010-03-02 Thread Morten Frisch
This is what I did. From 9.10 I disabled all desktop effects and purged
my fglrx driver. Reebooted and got the message about disabled
properetary drivers. Then I ran update-manager -d to update to Ubuntu
Lucid alpha 2 containing the new kernel 2.6.32. When done the update-
manager rebooted and I was booted into the new Lucid. From here I
enabled desktop effects and without any of the bugs (slow minimizing,
maximizing resiezing etc) I had before. Ta-da! Here is the official
RadeonHD from ubuntu community documentation:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonHD Make sure to read what groups
have 3D support in Lucid..

2010-02-25 Thread Morten Frisch
Solved my problems (slow maximizing, minimizing resizing) by getting the
newest kernel 2.6.32. Which has 3D support for ATI Radeon HD3xxx and
HD4xxx. Either upgrade your kernel or upgrade Ubuntu to Lucid and ditch
the fglrx driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 200868] Re: nvidia-settings doesn't have permissions to write xorg.conf

2009-07-26 Thread Morten Justesen
I have made my own fix that uses PolicyKit and a dbus service, I have made this
to learn the build and PPA process and how to use PolicyKit and dbus.
https://launchpad.net/~morten-justesen/+archive/ppa/+sourcepub/682796/+listing-archive-extra
But I thought I would share it, it works but I must warn I'm a complete newbie
with this stuff.
