[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 357284] Re: [i945GM] Kubuntu: Screen stays black on logout (UXA bug)

2009-10-15 Thread Pascal R.
After the the last kubuntu karmic update today, the bug seems to be
completely gone for me too. Hardware: ThinkPad T61 with Intel 965GM
Chipset.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 357284] Re: [i945GM] Kubuntu: Screen stays black on logout (UXA bug)

2009-10-10 Thread Pascal R.
In Kubuntu Karmic Beta, UXA is enabled by default, right? (No xorg.conf, I am
slightly confused).
But there are these four lines in /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

(II) UXA(0): Driver registered support for the following operations:
(II) solid
(II) copy
(II) composite (RENDER acceleration)

Bug changed a bit since my comment #10 on the same hardware (ThinkPad T61 with
Intel 965GM Chipset). In Kubuntu Karmic Beta, I can see a mouse pointer on a
black screen after logging out. This is new. The mouse pointer changes to an
input cursor on some areas on the screen. Could be that these are the areas for
username and password.
Also new: It is possible to restart the XServer with Alt+Print+K. After that
everything is ok.
Third new thing: Switching user works without problems now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 448046] [NEW] [i945GM] Graphic accelleration randomly not working with Karmic: drm Cannot initialize the agpgart module

2009-10-10 Thread Pascal R.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

at circa every third boot on my ThinkPad T61 with i945GM chipset, the
graphic acceleration is not working. I can see a short flash of some
message with [drm] *ERROR* in it before usplash starts. If the error
occures /var/log/dmesg contains this:

$ cat /var/log/dmesg.0 |grep drm
[1.844923] [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810
[2.092935] [drm:drm_fill_in_dev] *ERROR* Cannot initialize the agpgart
module.
[2.093008] [drm:intelfb_restore] *ERROR* Failed to restore crtc
configuration: -22

if the error did not occur, it looks like this:

$ cat /var/log/dmesg |grep drm
[1.876103] [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810
[2.699884] [drm] fb0: inteldrmfb frame buffer device
[2.704187] [drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20080730 for :00:02.0 on minor 0
[3.058291] [drm] LVDS-8: set mode 1024x768 c

after the errorenous boot, the Kubuntu desktop effects are disabled and
cannot be enabled. Also the system is very slow. That is the reason I
reported this bug with ubuntu-bug xorg after a normal boot process.
Should I take the time to do the report again after a boot process with
errors?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 364162] Re: KDE: change from Powersave to Performance fails

2009-06-13 Thread Pascal R.
I don't think that this is a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379082 .
There is no screen flashing or brightness changing like described in the other
bug. Only the whole Plasma and KWin and all window stuff is disappearing
completely (without flashing back or something).

I also updated to the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel package of the Ubuntu
karmic repository like Laurens (The rest is still jauty). Now the Error Iine in
dmesg I mentioned in the original report is gone, but the problem I described
is not gone.
With the updated package I am not able to use Open GL desktop effects but if I
am switching to XRender effects, the problem is still there.

** Description changed:

I am using a Thinkpad T61 (Intel GM965/GL960 graphics controller)
with Kubuntu 9.04 (installed from Kubuntu 9.04 Beta CD, fully updated today)

  Reproduce Bug:
(I don't know the exact English label texts, I am working with german Kubuntu)

System Settings Power Management General Settings:
Set With Power Cable connected to Performance
Set Running on Battery to Powersave

System Settings Power Management Change Profiles:
For Performance Profile Uncheck Deactivate Composit-extension of KWin
For Powersave Profile Check Deactivate Composit-extension of KWin

  Restart System.
  Power cable is connected.

Switch to Standby (sleep in RAM) or Hibernate (sleep on HDD) mode.

  Unplug power cable.

  Wake up the machine.
Now the desktop effects are off (no transparency), as expected.

  Plug power cable in.
All windows and plasma are disappearing. I can only see the background image
of the root user and the mouse cursor. The mouse cursor changes its appearance
on some points of the screen (it looks like the windows are still there but
invisible).

  Unplug power cable again.
Most of the times all of the windows and plasma elements are visible again
(without desktop effects as expected)

Only restarting kdm seems to work, to see a desktop with plugged in
  power cable.

  Diagnostics:
When going to sleep mode with power cable not connected and waking up with no
power cable, everything works ok.
When going to sleep mode with power cable connected and waking up with power
cable connected, everything works ok.

+ *Update: It seems that this has nothing to do with the described behaviour*
In case of the error state every time the power cable is plugged in (and the
desktop disappears) there is a new line in dmesg:
[ 280.205923] [drm:i915_get_vblank_counter] *ERROR* trying to get vblank
count for disabled pipe 0

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 379082
Screen flashes with [drm:i915_get_vblank_counter] *ERROR* trying to get
vblank count for disabled pipe 0

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 357284] Re: [i945GM] Kubuntu: Screen stays black on logout (UXA bug)

2009-05-13 Thread Pascal R.
Same bug here with UXA enabled. It is also happening if I try to switch the
user.
After switching, the screen is black, and with a period of approximately 30
sec, the screen backlight turns off and on (notebook display). If I am hitting
ALT+PRINT+K, I can return to my previous session with CTRL+ALT+F7. Without
hitting ALT+PRINT+K it is not even possible to see tty0 (with CTRL+ALT+F1).

fresh install of Kubuntu 9.04 64bit on Thinkpad T61.
