[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2018-12-07 Thread Pete
I am still seeing this with Mint 18.3 and 19 on at least 4 different
PCs but with nvidia graphics. Is there a fix somewhere?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1670717] [NEW] Unity8/mir working on VMware due to bypass not working

2017-03-07 Thread Pete Woods
Public bug reported:

Related to this bug (bug #1480755) - this is the issue preventing
unity8/mir working in VMware.

Bringing it out into its own issue to improve visibility.

Choice quotes from previous bug:

The problem is (annoyingly) that Mesa 10.5.9 on wily (Intel Haswell)
returns 7 compatible EGLConfigs for EGL_ALPHA_SIZE=0 but all of them
have EGL_ALPHA_SIZE == 8 set.

Added a Mesa task. RAOF has suggested we should just fix Mesa. When
asking for RGBA of 8880 it should provide at least one EGLConfig that is
8880 instead of always .

This should be possible. It's not entirely clear why we're not getting
XRGB visuals currently, but it's fixable.

I *think* it looks like there's something similar going on inside QtMir
(http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mir-
team/qtmir/trunk/view/head:/src/platforms/mirserver/screen.cpp#L60):

enum QImage::Format qImageFormatFromMirPixelFormat(MirPixelFormat
mirPixelFormat) {
switch (mirPixelFormat) {
case mir_pixel_format_abgr_:
if (isLittleEndian()) {
// 0xRR,0xGG,0xBB,0xAA
return QImage::Format_RGBA;
} else {
// 0xAA,0xBB,0xGG,0xRR
qFatal("[mirserver QPA] "
   "Qt doesn't support mir_pixel_format_abgr_ in a big
endian architecture");
}
break;
case mir_pixel_format_xbgr_:
if (isLittleEndian()) {
// 0xRR,0xGG,0xBB,0xXX
return QImage::Format_RGBX;
} else {
// 0xXX,0xBB,0xGG,0xRR
qFatal("[mirserver QPA] "
   "Qt doesn't support mir_pixel_format_xbgr_ in a big
endian architecture");
}
break;
break;
case mir_pixel_format_argb_:
// 0xAARRGGBB
return QImage::Format_ARGB32;
break;
case mir_pixel_format_xrgb_:
// 0xffRRGGBB
return QImage::Format_RGB32;
break;
case mir_pixel_format_bgr_888:
qFatal("[mirserver QPA] Qt doesn't support mir_pixel_format_bgr_888");
break;
default:
qFatal("[mirserver QPA] Unknown mir pixel format");
break;

Guys, is it worth looping in Thomas Hellstrom
and/or Jakob Bornecrantz to this bug? IIRC they were
interested in getting the VMware driving working with Mir a while ago.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1165080] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.04 X fails to start after kernel 3.2.0-39 update

2013-04-05 Thread Pete
Public bug reported:

Since kernel 3.2.0-39 update X.org fails to start with with following Fatal
Server Error:
[18.148] (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
[18.148]
Fatal server error:
[18.148] no screens found

Everything works as expected when I boot back to the 3.2.0-38 kernel
(previous version)

I have a Dell Presision M6700 with the AMD Radeon HD 7800M Series
graphics card.

I was using the ATI/AMD proprietary FLGRX Graphics driver (post-release
updates)
In testing I have switched the the ATI Fire GL driver and the (**experimental**
beta) driver with no change.

I have attached the X.org log for both the broken 3.2.0-39 configuration
and working 3.2.0-38 configuration.

2013-02-11 Thread Pete Eby
As a note, over in OpenSuse 12.2 land I'm seeing this same issue, with
this same card (GT240, device ID 10de:0ca3)

https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-
here/applications/480831-xorg-high-cpu-usage-sluggish-performance-fresh-
install-4.html

Sometimes I see the EQ overflow errors in Xorg log, but not other times.

Looked for a newer vbios for the GT240, but only found the same version
I had

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 749567] Re: Mouse cursor jumps and clicks randomly

2012-11-28 Thread Pete Hall
This issue seems to be present in 12.10 amd64 as well, and makes
dragging windows and selecting text almost impossible running as a
guest OS in virtualbox 4.2.4 r81684 with current virtualbox guest utils.
Kernel modules recompiled on this box without DKMS, as I couldn't get
anything else to work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-12-29 Thread Pete Webster
Having the same issue in Oneric, random occurences, sometimes reboot works,
sometimes requires multiple reboots. Although still not sure if this is related
to the bug mentioned here, or the one over here...
http://askubuntu.com/questions/21305/desktop-forgets-theme

Am running an old Athlon with regular HDD, although nVidia chipset
present on mobo. Haven't tried yet the timings with the daemons but will
look at that next.

Just thought I'd add that this IS still occuring on a Oneric environment

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 819684] [NEW] No video after logout on Lenovo x220

2011-08-02 Thread Pete Goodall
Public bug reported:

Not every time, but many times when I logout the screen goes blank and
never comes back. I try switching to a text login (i.e. vt2) and I
still get nothing. The only way to rectify the situation is to switch
to a text vt - even though there is no video - and press the power
button to initiate a controlled shutdown (not a hard power off). Not
sure what trouble shooting information I can get you so please let me
know if you need additional information.

Attaching my /var/log/Xorg.0.log file as I just reproduced the crash.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 605153] [NEW] [i945gme] GPU lockup 0cd910c0 (PGTBL_ER: 0x00000103)

2010-07-13 Thread Pete Goodall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

To be honest, I don't know whether this is a duplicate or not. The
string after "PGTBL_ER:" didn't match anything, so I'm reporting this as
new. I can't give you symptoms because afaict nothing went wrong.
Please let me know if you need more debugging information. This is a
fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 Alpha 2 + updates to today - 14 July 2010.

I personally haven't had this problem since reinstalling Karmic with
driver 190.42, have you tried any of the 190.x series?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447427] Re: [i945] No screens found / none have usable configuration on Intel 945GM

2009-10-12 Thread Pete Phillips
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 447181 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/447181

(notice says this is a duplicate but I couldn't see anything linking
this to a duplicate bug, hence my post. Apologies if this causes a
problem).

I had exactly the same problem. I fixed it by:

1 - Uncommenting

  deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
  deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu jaunty main

in my sources.list file.

2 - run synaptic, Reload, and then search for the xserver-xorg-video-intel
module. Highlight it and then go to the menu item
   Package/Force version

I selected the 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu9.3 (jaunty updates)

and then selected 'install'

this ran, i rebooted, and everything is back to normal.

I think I may have been using the xorg-edgers and x-updates PPAs for
compiz (can't remember - longer than a month ago!), but I don't use
compiz any more (gone back to metacity with compositing) so can't say if
it breaks compiz.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422224] Re: two-finger scrolling does not work on Acer AO531h

2009-09-08 Thread Pete Goodall
One question. Here is the output of `xinput list --short`:

$ xinput list --short
"Virtual core pointer"  id=0[XPointer]
"Virtual core keyboard" id=1[XKeyboard]
"AT Translated Set 2 keyboard" id=2[XExtensionKeyboard]
"WebCam"id=3[XExtensionKeyboard]
"Sleep Button"  id=4[XExtensionKeyboard]
"Power Button"  id=5[XExtensionKeyboard]
"Video Bus" id=6[XExtensionKeyboard]
"Power Button"  id=7[XExtensionKeyboard]
"Macintosh mouse button emulation"  id=8[XExtensionPointer]
"SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"id=9[XExtensionPointer]

Do you need output from "Macintosh mouse button emulation" as well?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422224] [NEW] two-finger scrolling does not work on Acer AO531h

2009-08-31 Thread Pete Goodall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

I'm running Karmic Alpha 4 + updates as of 30 Aug 2009. On my Acer
Aspire One 531h netbook I can enable edge-scrolling, but two-finger
scrolling does not work at all. When two-finger scrolling is set in the
Mouse Preferences dialog edge scrolling is disabled and attempting to
scroll with two fingers just moves the mouse cursor. The gconf setting
is getting set correctly, but the setting seems to have no effect. Or
rather just doesn't work.

Enable edge scrolling:
-
1.  System -> Preferences -> Mouse
2. Click on the "Touchpad" tab
3. Set "Scrolling" to "Edge scrolling"

$ gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/scroll_method
1

Scrolling works just fine in Firefox.

Enable two-finger scrolling:
---
1.  System -> Preferences -> Mouse
2. Click on the "Touchpad" tab
3. Set "Scrolling" to "Two-finger scrolling"

$ gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/scroll_method
2

Neither edge nor two-finger scrolling works in Firefox.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 357901] Re: xinerama mouse cursor on every screen

2009-08-31 Thread Pete
The mouse cursor appearing on the wrong screen (it also becomes locked
there) has been reported in other bugs, eg bug 363375.

Easy work around is to alt+drag a window across from screen 3 (where the
cursor always appears to get stuck) to screen 1. If the cursor is on
screen 2 but is acting like it is positioned over screen 3 then move it
to screen 1 and it will not get stuck, however moving to screen 3 will
cause it to get stuck.

My problem only occurs on the system with the Geforce 5 series cards
(which are now stuck with the legacy 173.14.xx driver).

On a newer system I've been using the 180/185 series driver from the
nvidia installer without this issue ever being apparent.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383209] Re: Mouse cursor wraps around current screen when animated using Xinerama

2009-06-17 Thread Pete
I wasn't aware that you could use the FX 5200 with 180.xx driver
release. Maybe you are using the 173.14.xx release too?

I'm don't think I'm able to try it the other way, i.e 173.14.xx on the
newer system as I don't think that release supports the 9 series GPUs.

If anyone else is reading this with 7/8 series GPUs someone needs to
test to see if this bug is present in 173.14.xx but not in 180/185.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383209] Re: Mouse cursor wraps around current screen when animated using Xinerama

2009-06-13 Thread Pete
Using the 173.14.18 legacy driver I also have this problem. Oddly the
mouse never seems to get stuck on the central screen. However, sometimes
the mouse will be on the middle screen, while highlighting text the
mouse will act like it is located on either one of the outer screens
performing the action there (for example selecting text on the inner
monitor could result in highlighting an area of the desktop on the left
or right screen). When attempting to move the cursor from the central
screen it will then warp (presumably by one screen width) and get stuck
wrapping on an edge screen.

However, on a newer machine where the 185.19 beta driver can be used
this bug is not a problem. In both cases the machines are using the
patched xserver from the m0sia ppa to resolve the cursor left on each
screen (bug #357901).

Kris, do you have the chance to try the Nvidia 185.19 beta driver?

Also, when your cursor becomes stuck if you drag a window the first
screen crossing it makes the cursor moves as expected but the window
itself warps now, followed by crossing the next boundary with the window
snapping to the cursor position and the cursor becomes un-stuck?

Hi Bryce,

Thanks for the reply. It asked for a "short description" on my screen.
Had it asked for a "title" I would have thought of something quite shorter.

I see there is something similar on the wish list for nvidia-settings,
so I guess it is OK for now. Meanwhile, is there a work around?

OK, the envy thing gets it back to where it was in 8.10, one big desktop across
two screens. I don't know that it will survive a reboot because I can't save
the configuration. Of course, Ubuntu can run for months without rebooting.
There is a button to save it, but it won't let you unless you are root, and to
become root you have to call the thing from a terminal with the gksudo
(whatever it is called) command and I don't know what it is called. "NVIDIA X
Server Settings" is the title bar, but I doubt that is really it. If I try
that I just get this: p...@pete-desktop:~$ gksudo NVIDIA X Server Settings
p...@pete-desktop:~$ It asks for the password in between, but the NVIDIA X
Server Settings doesn't open. The xorg.conf does not reflect what is really
running: Section "Screen" Identifier"Default Screen" DefaultDepth
  24 EndSection  Section "Module" Load"glx" Disable"dri2"
EndSection Section "Device" Identifier"Default Device" Driver
"nvidia" EndSection It should have all kinds of stuff in it about the dual
screens, twinview, xinerama and all that.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 384034] Re: OK, the envy thing gets it back to where it was in 8.10, one big desktop across two screens. I don't know that it will survive a reboot because I can't save the config

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 384034] [NEW] OK, the envy thing gets it back to where it was in 8.10, one big desktop across two screens. I don't know that it will survive a reboot because I can't save the conf

2009-06-05 Thread Pete Theisen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

OK, I get it to come up as nvidia-settings, but . . .

p...@pete-desktop:~$ gksudo nvidia-settings

PARSE ERROR: Parse error on line 9 of section Module in file
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.
"Disable" is not a valid keyword in this section.

When I try to save the settings this error pops up:

Failed to parse existing X config file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'!

I got into it as root, but when I tried to save the settings this error
in a dialog box:

Failed to parse existing X config file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'!

and this in the terminal.

p...@pete-desktop:~$ gksudo nvidia-settings

VALIDATION ERROR: Data incomplete in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
Undefined Device "(null)" referenced by Screen "Default Screen".

This is after I commented out the disable dir2.

I will go from line to line, swapping error for error, with this whole
thing?

This is a bug, if I could just figure out how to make a ticket on it.

You should have mentioned the -p at the top of the tutorial? :-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 338598] Re: [g41] [West Lake] System unable to detect optimized graphic resolution.

2009-05-12 Thread Pete Graner
@Jerone,

You are incorrect the kernel patch is *NOT* in proposed. It is in the
tree but not in proposed. This most likely will not make the cut for an
Intrepid SRU. We are only enabling HW on Jaunty.

Additionally if this did get passed by the SRU team you will not see it
for another few months as the current kernel in proposed will have to go
into -updates, then the next proposed kernel will have to soak for 6+
weeks prior to getting into -updates.
