[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1558978] Re: Black rendering of Qt Desktop and window components

2016-03-23 Thread Philip Muškovac
I'm closing this for now until I know more.

1.18.2 did not help with this, but instead I tried a daily build live
session and there the rendering was fine. So it looks like something
went wrong in the upgrade from trusty.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1558978] Re: Black rendering of Qt Desktop and window components

2016-03-21 Thread Philip Muškovac
So, I tried some settings by now, and I get the same result using the
generic modesetting driver with glamor, so this is probably unrelated to
radeon and rather something in glamor / something else in the opengl
stack.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1558978] [NEW] Black rendering of Qt Desktop and window components

2016-03-18 Thread Philip Muškovac
Public bug reported:

I tried upgrading a Kubuntu machine with an ATi GPU to Xenial which results in
the attached screenshot.
SDDM, ksplash, plasma background, panel and Icons are rendered Black, while the
text still shows fine.

QWidget based applications like dolphin look fine, so this looks like
Gallium fails to render QML components properly?

Ok, after adding mesa 11.0.0 I haven't seen this crash for 2 days now.
So I guess the patch helps as I had this crash several times per day
before that.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1492037] Re: Segmentation fault in brw_meta_fast_clear

David Edmundson pointed out that this was also discussed by the kde developers
suggesting to switch back to UXA from SNA on intel
https://mail.kde.org/pipermail/kde-distro-packagers/2015-August/88.html

the freedesktop bug also seems to have a workaround attached to it

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1020221] [NEW] Connecting an external Monitor over DisplayPort freezes the screen

2012-07-02 Thread Philip Muškovac
Public bug reported:

When I plug in a second Monitor using a DisplayPort cable, the system
becomes barely responsive (all you can do is move the mouse very slow)
and [kworker/1:2] is using 100% CPU in top. A few seconds after pulling
the cable out the system works normally again.

Filing this against the driver and not the kernel as the nvidia driver
works somewhat fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1020221] Re: Connecting an external Monitor over DisplayPort freezes the screen

2012-07-02 Thread Philip Muškovac
** Description changed:

When I plug in a second Monitor using a DisplayPort cable, the system
becomes barely responsive (all you can do is move the mouse very slow)
and [kworker/1:2] is using 100% CPU in top. A few seconds after pulling
the cable out the system works normally again.

was still making Xorg use 100% CPU for rendering the page I was trying
to scroll the page using mouse middle-click and drag - didn't notice
anything unusual otherwise

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 930614] [NEW] Background in gtk applications is rendered wrong after logging out in KDE

2012-02-11 Thread Philip Muškovac
Public bug reported:

With nvidia 290 (and I think some 2XX version before that) after logging
out and in again in KDE applications are rendered wrong. In GTK it seems
to be mostly the background, resulting in a full-transparent gnome-
terminal or white background being shown as black in firefox or
thunderbird (see screenshot) and text selection being invisible. Another
application that's affected is ksnapshot here (Qt), but I haven't seen a
pattern for Qt applications.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 930614] Re: Application rendering broken after logging out in KDE

2012-02-11 Thread Philip Muškovac
** Description changed:

With nvidia 290 (and I think some 2XX version before that) after logging
out and in again in KDE applications are rendered wrong. In GTK it seems
to be mostly the background, resulting in a full-transparent gnome-
terminal or white background being shown as black in firefox or
thunderbird (see screenshot) and text selection being invisible. Another
application that's affected is ksnapshot here (Qt), but I haven't seen a
  pattern for Qt applications.

reproducability on the 2 PC's I tried this on:
nvidia 290: happens after 1 or 2 tries
  nouveau: unreproducable
  intel: unreproducable

  [Workaround]
- Instead of just logging out actually restart KDM so X is killed.
+ 1)Instead of just logging out actually restart KDM so X is killed.
+
+ 2)Uncomment TerminateServer=true in /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc which will tell kdm to
+ restart X instead of resetting it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 923204] [NEW] mouse movement doesn't stop when stopping finger

2012-01-28 Thread Philip Muškovac

This makes it really hard to accurately select text etc.

No, this is fixed in 11.10 as it shipped with 280.13 and this bug was
fixed in 275, so I'm closing this for oneiric.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 865885] Re: implement proper clipboard in wayland

2011-10-07 Thread Philip Muškovac
I'm not usually using windows so I don't know what windows users expect
from a clipboard, and I'm not particulary affected by bug 11334 as KDE
has a clipboard manager running by default, but I do want to remind
people that there are a lot of linux users that _like_ the selection
based clipboard behaiour.

Interestingly, Klipper manages to provide a working ctrl-c/v clipboard
while still allowing selection based copy and paste. So it shouldn't be
impossible to provide both as I do agree that the current situation
needs to be improved.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system

2011-09-28 Thread Philip Muškovac
I'm not part of the Ubuntu X team, so I don't know why this isn't
getting an SRU, but please don't mess around with the driver script from
nvidia unless you know exactly what you're doing. Also, the driver from
nvidia isn't supported in ubuntu, so please don't suggest it (at least
not here in the bug tracker). The best workaround currently is adding
'ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates' to your sources, which has an updated
driver for natty (280.13 right now).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 811701] Re: Nvidia driver unfunctional in oneiric since 2011-07-17

2011-07-16 Thread Philip Muškovac
Ok, the problem seems to be that nouveau gets loaded even though it's
blacklisted. Seems like it somehow found it's way into the initrd image.

Seems like it somehow found it's way into the initrd image.

sudo rm /lib/modules/3.0.0-5-generic/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/nouveau.ko

sudo update-initramfs -k $(uname -r) -u
sudo shutdown -r now

and the nvidia driver works again, but that's not much of a
workaround...

Also, someone please reassign this bug to whatever broke this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711908] Re: [natty] frequent nouveau freeze on GT218 [NVS 3100M] (rev a2)

2011-02-15 Thread Philip Muškovac
Some more information after I killed X with sysrq+k after the last
freeze:

** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

Had a freeze like this 3 times now, first was when browsing a site in
firefox, next was opening thunderbird, and the current one was when trying to
print something in thunderbird. I'm using KDE with oxygen-gtk as gtk theme.
Next 2 freezes where when scrolling the tab bar in firefox, and one when
opening yakuake with firefox in the background fullscreen.
Then I got one when opening a mail in thunderbird and one while scrolling the
list of mails.
After a few more freezes from within firefox I got one when switching from
smplayer to quassel by taskbar.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 643895] Re: nvidia propietary driver fails to load X with geforce 310M

2010-12-03 Thread Philip Muškovac
If you mean you installed the .run from nvidia, then you need to run the
installer again with --uninstall:
./nividia*.run --uninstall
and then reinstall the xserver-xorg-core package since the nvidia installer
removes the xserver libglx file.

2010-11-26 Thread Philip Muškovac
Marking this as Confirmed/High since it makes X fail to start but still
needs review by the X team.

And can someone try the 260.19.21 package from the x-updates ppa just to make
sure it's broken too with the default configuration? (Installing from jockey).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655499] Re: nouveau chooses non-native resolution

2010-10-08 Thread Philip Muškovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 655499

(you need to use nouveau while doing this!)
This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may
need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository.
Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad
you will need to give it at least the ability to Change Non-Private data as
it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625993] Re: Dist-Upgrading with Nvidia driver installed causes XServer not to load

2010-09-01 Thread Philip Muškovac
reassigning to the nvidia driver as this isn't a dpkg issue. Your
problems might come from bug 616023 though which should be fixed soon.

** Package changed: dpkg (Ubuntu) = nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu)

** Tags added: maverick

This bug is in need of a summary of current status. What works? What is
broken? And, what's the schedule for restoring nVidia to it's 10.04
functionality. This would be a terrible regression if it makes it into
 beta.

From what I know 96 and 173 currently don't work at all, and jockey was
patched to add the 'ignoreABI' option when installing nvidia-current so
it at least won't fail out of the box. The proper fix has to be done by
nVidia.

aenertia: can you please file a new bug? This bug is about the ABI
