[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 664162] [NEW] package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-10-20 Thread Punksmurf
Public bug reported:

1) OS Version: Ubuntu 10.04
2) Version of package:
ubu...@ubuntu:~$ apt-cache policy fglrx
fglrx:
  Installed: 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu5
  Candidate: 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu5
  Version table:
 *** 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu5 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/restricted Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu3 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/restricted Packages
3) I expected: A painless installation of the FGLRX driver.
4) I got instead: A failure, package failed to install.

I had some trouble installing this driver on 10.10 and read about
problems with it, so I tried to step back a bit to 10.04. First
installed it on a 1GB stick without persistence, the driver seemed to
install fine though it asked me to reboot which is of course kind of
pointless without persistent storage.

I put the live image on a 4GB stick with 3.1GB persistent storage. I
tried the installation of the driver again, but it failed as you can see
here. That's before it got a chance to ask me to reboot.
