Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core I have installed nvidia driver version 96.43.19 from nvidia.com because of the well know problem between xserver v1.9 and older nvidia driver shipped with maverick. Up until 29th December everything was working fine but then I saw an update of xserver-xorg-core package and installed that. The GDM starts fine and shows the initial login screen but when I try to log into the system, the session does not start and it again takes me back to login screen. After looking at the error log it seemed to me that there was an issue with GLX option and sure enough after I disabled GLX option things started working fine.
