[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 92599] Re: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver
Daniel, no luck with smooth windows after disabling Detect Refresh Rate. In fact, they became jerky again. Also, it turns out that disabling Bailer didn't work well either. What does seem to work is disabling all Window Management options except Move Window and Resize Window. Lastly, as another bit of info: the OpenGL game Extreme Tux Racer performs well, but the screen is corrupted upon exit. Attached is a screenprint demonstrating the problem. Actually *doing* the screen print refreshed the screen. ** Attachment added: Corrupted display after exiting Tux Racer https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20/+bug/92599/+attachment/2523403/+files/Corrupted_display.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/92599 Title: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/92599/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 92599] Re: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver
Since #760814 is deemed a duplicate, I've bounced overhere. Just installed 11.04 w/ Classic (i.e., GNOME 2.32). GeForce 210 and binary driver 270.41.06-0ubuntu1. Window movement was stunningly jerky. Went into CCSM and disabled Bailer. Now, window movement is acceptable, but glxgers is still horrible. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/92599 Title: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/92599/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 663463] Re: Blank screen on boot unless nouveau was disabled.
Nvidia apparently made some bad chips... http://www.nvidiasettlement.com/affectedmodels.html http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1013947/why-nvidia-duff-chips-shoddy-engineering Even if your Dell isn't on the Official List, it might still have the affected GPU. I solved the problem by replacing an old-but-just-purchased G86 GeForce 8400GS with a new-and-just-purchased G98 8400GS. The key is to look for an 8400GS with 512MB RAM. The 128MB cards are definitely old and the 256MB cards *might* be old. Another indicator is that only the G98 cards are PCIe v2 x16, whereas the older ones are v1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_PureVideo#Table_of_PureVideo_.28HD.29_GPUs -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/663463 Title: Blank screen on boot unless nouveau was disabled. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Changing the GRUB boot param to nosplash (thanks, #147623 !!) just pushed the problem back to when after I'd logged in. :( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/663463 Title: Blank screen on boot unless nouveau was disabled. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Adding nosplash nouveau.modeset=0 has me logged in without any errors, but at 800x600 instead of 1280x1024. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/663463 Title: Blank screen on boot unless nouveau was disabled. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
