This update causes a problem when running a program via wine
(6.0.3~repack-1) which I have run (under wine) for over 10 years.

Dialog box error message:
A program on your system has crashed, but
WineDbg was unable to attach to the process to
obtain a backtrace.
[ OK ]

Terminal error message:

I reverted by installing the following packages:

Release:
Description: Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS
Release: 22.04

I am not sure exactly which package contains the bug, because these 11
packages upgrade together. The specific version diffs are shown above.

One thing I noticed is that this seems to be a fairly large version
increase (mesa 23.0.4 --> 23.2.1). If I could get all of the package
versions between these two, then

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1967951] Re: hotplug external monitor logs me out

2022-04-05 Thread Ryan Daniels
I have been using Ubuntu 22.04 for several months, initially Ubuntu on wayland
was working but at some point Ubuntu on wayland stopped working (It doesn't
even show up as an option on the gdm3 login screen). I am mentioning this to
preemptively say that:
- Ubuntu on wayland is not working
- Sway on wayland is working
- I don't know why Ubuntu-wayland is not working.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1967951] [NEW] hotplug external monitor logs me out

2022-04-05 Thread Ryan Daniels
Public bug reported:

Summary:
When hotplugging an external monitor, I am sent immediately to the login screen.

Actions:

Boot my laptop either with or without the external plugged in and then
log in to my user account. If the monitor is not plugged in, plug it in.

Expected result:
The monitor is detected and the previous monitor configurations are loaded.

Actual result:
When the monitor is detected, I am immediately sent to the login screen.
On X, with either HDMI or usb c port: I need to log in again. The monitor is
detected and functions as expected once I have logged in.

On sway with HDMI: I can change to tty2 (where my sway session was started) and
the monitor is detected and functions as expected.
On sway with usb c: I cannot log in again. It is stuck in a log-in loop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881046] Re: Panning in a virtual monitor is not possible after upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10

2021-10-14 Thread Ryan Sutton
Well there you go, if you just wait 10 years, you don't ever have to fix
anything. Could have fixed it 5-6 years ago, but why bother, right?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values

2020-05-14 Thread Ryan Hadley
Just to add I found that on the unscaled screens the text and general
look was a little fuzzy. I assume this is something to do with the
scaling going on. Also if fractional scaling is turned off I cannot set
the 4k screen to 200% on its own as all screens then get set to 200%.

I know its not related to this but VLC also does not work when scaling
is on(Atleast for me), I assume this is more of an issue for VLC not
Ubuntu.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values

2020-05-13 Thread Ryan Hadley
Ive just tried this again this morning

1. 2560 x 1440
2. 3840 x 2160
3. 1920 x 1200

I set fractional scaling to 1.50 on screen 2 (Others 100%)

For the session it works perfectly fine, But after logging out and
logging back in the settings do not get saved (Nvidia gtx 1080 with 440
driver)

This was not working before, So I assume some updates have been made in
this area?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1870725] Re: artifacts appearing on gnome shell

2020-04-04 Thread Ryan Hirasaki
I believed I narrowed down the issue to how gnome-shell uses Xorg.

As said before GDM did not have any issues, and (i may be seriously
wrong here) GDM uses Wayland by default. When I launch the Ubuntu
desktop with Wayland, the graphical issue went away and is running
smoothly.

So I narrowed down the issue to Xorg or gnome-shell. So I went ahead and
installed Cinnamon DE which uses Xorg, and the issue did not arise.

My theory is that gnome-shell has a problem with rendering the shell
(not programs) with Xorg.

I also attached another image showing the problem, could the issue be
the compositor???

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1814162] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2019-01-31 Thread Mikhail Ryan Wise

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1615871]

2018-12-23 Thread Ryan
I experience bad performance with accelerated compositing mode on using
WebkitGTK+ 2.22.5 on Fedora 29 with Intel Iris 540 (Skylake mobile)
graphics. Turning it off makes pretty much everything faster, but
particularly Facebook, which is nearly unusable with accelerated
compositing on.

Also, when playing videos or scrolling through a site like Facebook, the
laptop becomes hot and the fan goes full blast, which does not happen
with accelerated compositing off.

Would this bug be the issue I'm experiencing, or should I file a new bug
about this?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1799964] [NEW] Ubuntu 18.10 After Blank Screen System Won't Come Back

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1784488] [NEW] libwacom touch strip mappings are reversed for cintiq 21ux

2018-07-30 Thread ryan
Public bug reported:

In the location libwacom/ the file 'cintiq-21ux2.tablet' has the wrong
button mapping for the touch strips. This error causes the LED
lights/touch strip modes to correspond to the buttons on the opposite
sides of the cintiq, rather than their correct groupings.

The Cintiq has 4 LED lights that represent 4 different modes that a
center button toggles between. There is one center button and 4 LEDs on
each side of the Cintiq that correspond to a touch-strip. The expected
action is that by pressing the center button, it would change the button
mappings of the touch-strip located directly behind the center button.
The Leds would reflect this change by lighting up a different led.
Continued presses would toggle between the 4 LEDs/modes.

What is happening is the button toggle is not changing the mappings of
the touch-strip directly behind it, instead it's changing the button
mappings for touch-strip on the other side of the Cintiq.

At the end of the file, you will see : 'Touchstrip=A' and 'Touchstrip2=J' These
should be corrected as 'Touchstrip=J' and 'Touchstrip2=A'. After correcting my
file, the button mapping in Wacom Tablet works correctly.

I believe this issue is a kernal one, but the problem can be solved by
simply changing the file that libwacom has.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1762360] [NEW] EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 - nouveau symbol lookup error causes X failure

2018-04-09 Thread Ryan Hoover
Public bug reported:

Fresh install of Ubuntu Studio 18.04 - xorg crashes just after login and
returns to lightdm. Moving to a TTY and attempting to startx returns
the following:

/usr/lib/Xorg: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nouveau_drv.so: undefined symbol:
exaGetPixmapDriverPrivate

Installing nvidia-driver-390 and rebooting resolves the issue.

apt update && apt full-upgrade performed @ 03:54 EDT (I didn't think to
check which versions the updates were at, as there were something like
145 of them)

GPU:EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
Kernel: 4.15.0-13-lowlatency
OS: Ubuntu Studio 18.04 Bionic
CPU:Intel Core i5-4690K @ 3.5GHz

Right, it's just an example. Replace with `sudo virt-manager` equally.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1713313] Re: Unable to launch pkexec'ed applications on Wayland session

2017-10-19 Thread Ryan Beisner
Raised https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/x11-xserver-
utils/+bug/1724748 which I think is actually a dup of this existing bug.
Here's what I'm seeing:

All (most?) gui apps fail to launch when using sudo, out-of-box, desktop
17.10 install. For example, gparted and virt-manager, which both
require sudo, are not usable without a work-around.

 Out-of-box experience

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1606122] Re: Cairo drawing coordinates are broken w/nouveau (affects xfwm4)

2017-05-10 Thread Ryan Prichard
The bug doesn't reproduce anymore. Both the extracted-from-xfwm4.c test
program and xfwm4 now work, on my Ubuntu 16.04 machine with the NVIDIA
GeForce 750 Ti card. I configured it back to nouveau and enabled
compositing.

I'm guessing an update fixed it?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1176857] Re: Touchpad resolution too coarse on thinkpad X230

2017-01-05 Thread Ryan
Reply to #12

It's an instant showstopper for Windows 10 users as well, suggesting to
me that it's a hardware/driver problem. It has so much less resolution
compared to my old Samsung R580's touchpad! It's impossible to target
handles in Adobe Illustrator or to accurately target enemies in games,
not to mention everyday mis-clicks that happen in the OS. It's driving
me mad and I'm about to rip the touchpad out and just hack in an R580
pad that I can trust.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1606122] [NEW] Cairo drawing coordinates are broken w/nouveau (affects xfwm4)

2016-07-24 Thread Ryan Prichard
Public bug reported:

I'm using xfwm4 with Xubuntu 16.04. With compositing enabled, and when
I cycle through windows with Alt-Tab, xfwm4 draws an opaque rectangle
bordering a candidate window, and it fills that rectangle with a semi-
transparent blue color. When I use the nouveau driver, the filled
rectangle is clipped. The problem does not reproduce with the
proprietary nvidia driver.

It seems as though a drawing command should be issued using a window-
relative coordinate, but sometimes is instead issued using a screen-
relative coordinate.

I extracted relevant bits of xfwm4 into a small test program that
reproduces the problem. The test program creates a transparent XWindow
at (100,100) with size (210,210). It draws six rectangles centered
inside the window of varying parameters. Two of them are drawn at the
wrong place.

xfwm4 should be off-the-hook, I think, unless it's doing something wrong
(e.g. unspecified/undefined behavior).

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS

I created a video demonstrating the problem in xfwm4:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dZN80tMA6M. If you look closely, you
can see that the opaque blue border is positioned correctly, while the
semi-transparent overlay isn't.

FWIW, I'm using an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti card.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509866] [NEW] Left Mouse Click NOT working in Linux

2015-10-25 Thread Ryan
Public bug reported:

I have noted this problem was first reported in '2009 ( Google search).
The problem is definitely NOT a hardware problem, people with various
hardware configurations encounter this bug.

It does not just affect Ubuntu, it also affects Debian, Linux Mint,
Puppy, along with some Redhat distros Fedora, and ArchLinux.

I personally noticed the problem when I upgraded from ubuntu10.10 to
11.04. All versions prior to 11.04 worked great out of the box.

When I could not find a fix for the bug in Ubuntu, I deleted Ubuntu,
then installed Debian 6 (Squeez), which worked right out of the box.
When I upgraded to Debian 6 (Wheezy), the bug resurfaced. I deleted
Debian 6, and tried Puppy Linux with the SAME result, deleted Puppy, and
tried LinuxMint Mate17.1 which had the SAME bug, I deleted LinuxMint,
and burned a live disc of Debian 8 (Jessie) the SAME bug resurfaced
while running from the DVD.

It does not seem to be a matter of what desk top environment is being
used ie.: Gnome 3, Unity, LXDE, Xfce, or Kde.

It did not seem as prevalent in Gnome 2.30.

Right now I am running Kubuntu 14.04 it has the SAME BUG, but only appears when
I try to use Fire Fox on youtube with a full screen video.
I have tried these installs on two different systems:

Mobo: Asus M3A78-CM ( have tried legacy on Auto and Enabled)
Video: ATI Readon HD 5000 series
Mouse: I have logitech optical wired BJ58, Gearhead optical wired OM3400U ,
Microsoft Sculp model 1560 wireless, logitech optical wireless mouse M705

Mobo: Asus M2NBP-VM CSM ( have tried legacy on Auto and Enabled)
Video: ATI Readon HD 4000 series.
Mouse: same as listed above

This BUG affect what seems like ALL .deb bases

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455208] [NEW] firefox crashes on sketchup.com with nvidia-304 on 10de:03d0 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430]

2015-05-14 Thread Ryan Tandy
Public bug reported:

Browsing to sketchup.com reliably crashes Firefox 37 and 38 in Vivid and
Trusty when running nvidia-304 on a GeForce 6150SE. I'm guessing it's
because of the WebGL canvas on the front page. Nouveau on the same GPU
does not crash (however the canvas contains only garbage); neither does
nvidia-304 on more recent hardware (e.g. GT 210).

No backtrace right now because I couldn't figure how to stop Firefox's
crash reporter from eating it. I'll try again in a bit.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2015-04-03 Thread Ryan
This bug has starting affecting one of my production servers. I would
classify it as "critical". I turned off and uninstalled the screensaver
on this computer, but apparently that is not enough to prevent Ubuntu
from going to sleep. It will go to sleep by itself even if there is NO
SCREENSAVER application installed on the operating system! That is a
CRITICAL BUG!!!

So, in an effert to stop the computer from going to sleep, I installed
XScreenSaver, and turned it to "never go to sleep, ever" settings. Now I
have to start XScreenSaver at startup, to try to PREVENT this machine
from going to sleep. But it doesn't work.

Every few days, I'll wake up and be logged out of the machine, server is
down, not live to the world. Downtime caused by this bug. If I then try
to log back in, it IMMEDIATELY logs me back out! I have to cold restart
the whole machine to get back in.

This bug is so critical that I may have to migrate away from Ubuntu if
there is no forthcoming solution.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 939950] Re: Dual head failing with Radeon [workaround]

2015-03-04 Thread Ryan Harkin
Is this bug also relevant for a dual card setup?

I have two HD6570 cards rather than just one, so my 2nd monitor appears
as monitor 3 in the AMD control centre.

When I open the AMD Catalyst Catalyst Control Center (Administrative),
enable the 3rd monitor, reboot, and it's not saved the setting and the
monitor is still disabled. This all works fine on 12.04: I did a clean
install yesterday to verify.

The open source drivers work, to a fashion. But they are so buggy and
laggy that they're barely usable. I'd prefer to use OSS drivers, but
not the ones we have presently., but that's a different issue...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 551475] Re: amdcccle settings do not persist lucid

2015-03-04 Thread Ryan Harkin
I see this problem also. It worked in 12.04, but I can't remember if it
worked in 12.10, but it definitely hasn't worked since.

I have two HD6570 cards rather than just one.

I open the AMD Catalyst Catalyst Control Center (Administrative), enable
the 3rd monitor, reboot, and it's not saved the setting. As I said, it
worked fine on 12.04.

The open source drivers work, to a fashion. But they are so buggy and
laggy that they're barely usable.

Now to find a recent version of this bug for 14.04 or 14.10 and see if
anyone is making progress there

2015-02-16 Thread Ryan Karolak
Getting the same error with Chromebook Pixel on all terminals
occasionally.

Not sure if there are any other related symptoms. 3D and video works
fine, although with 3D the system will start getting warm and kicking up
the fans. I haven't done enough testing to know if this is typical with
this laptop and that level of 3D processing though.

Runing 14.10 and MATE 1.8.1.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1376760] Re: after a screen rotation we get a double mouse pointer

2015-02-15 Thread Ryan Cook
I'm able to confirm this issue on a fresh/vanilla 14.10 install on a
Lenovo Thinkpad X230T. Without installing the modified driver linked
above, I'm able to workaround the issue by targeting the cursor on the
corner of a detached (non-fullscreen) window such that the two-
directional drag-to-resize cursor appears. Subsequently, the other
visible cursor disappears until the next time I rotate the screen.

2015-02-03 Thread Ryan C. Underwood
Jamie, your uname -a output indicates that you haven't installed a kernel that
contains the other part of the fix.
Go here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
Pick a kernel >= v3.19-rc1 and install the proper debs. Then make sure you
choose that kernel at your bootloader.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181902] Re: Nouveau driver glitch on Ubuntu 13.04 will cause system to freeze under certain conditions

2014-12-18 Thread Ryan Tandy
"nouveau.config=NvMSI=0" does seem to work around the problem. A patch
to disable MSI on these chips was linked in the upstream bug report:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87361
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/nouveau/2014-December/019417.html

dmesg still mentions "MMIO write FAULT" multiple times, but that's
probably a separate bug; at least it hasn't frozen or scrambled yet.

If I should open a separate report, or provide any additional
information, just let me know what you need.

nvidia-304 from proposed boots and runs on my test hardware (6150SE and
210). I can't comment on the problems reported earlier in this thread
since I haven't experienced any of them.

I will put some users on this tomorrow and see how it goes. Thanks for

As a temporary work around, you can change virtual terminals (ctrl-alt

keys, then switch back to your X session on VT7 with ctrl-alt F7. Still
cant change brightness inside the X session with hardware keys or power
manager, though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 269904] Re: Screen refresh problems with nvidia cards

2014-06-09 Thread Ryan Tandy
Hi Christopher,

On a GeForce 6150SE/nForce 430 running Precise with the Raring HWE stack
and nvidia-304, compiz hangs, and periodically prints:

compiz (opengl) - Info: Initializing sync objects
compiz (opengl) - Warn: We should never wait for a sync -- add more syncs?
compiz (opengl) - Error: Timed out waiting for sync object.
compiz (opengl) - Info: Destroying sync objects
compiz (opengl) - Info: Initializing sync objects
compiz (opengl) - Error: glClientWaitSync failed
compiz (opengl) - Error: Timed out waiting for sync object.

The same setup works fine on a GeForce 210 and a Quadro 1000M.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1312437] [NEW] large cursor flickers or disappears

2014-04-24 Thread Ryan Tandy
Public bug reported:

When the cursor is set to a large image it flickers or disappears
completely. With nouveau the bug does not happen. Reproduced with nvidia
195 in lucid, 304 in precise, and 331 in trusty running compiz,
metacity, and gnome-shell. It seems to be less severe under metacity:
the cursor still flickers but doesn't actually disappear as often. It
also seems to be less severe in trusty than in precise, but still
flickers badly and occasionally disappears. Upgrading to nvidia 331 in
precise didn't change anything, so I think some other component is also
related.

Disabling HWCursor in xorg.conf doesn't change anything under metacity,
but under gnome-shell and compiz it makes the cursor (any size,
including the default) flicker and disappear all the time.

ktuberling is affected by this bug. It uses Qt's QWidget::setCursor() to
replace the cursor with an image of the item you clicked on. Smaller
items work and larger ones flicker or disappear. With nouveau it works
as expected, there is no flickering.

Attached is a trivial Qt program that demonstrates the bug using
QWidget::setCursor(). On my system (GT218 [GeForce 210]) the bug appears
with cursors larger than 64x64 px. I don't know whether that number is
hardware-dependent.

Can I provide any other useful information?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1277905] Re: Game windows (minecraft, titan attacks, maybe others) on Intel are transparent and no longer playable

2014-02-24 Thread Ryan Finnie
Chris, I can reproduce it consistently. The effect is immediate, and
shows up in screenshots. I haven't tried an external display, but
according to Xorg.0.log, my Thinkpad is running at native 1366x768.

Minecraft is the only application I've seen it on in trusty so far, but
admittedly I don't really play games on my laptop.

I'm no longer running the same version of Ubuntu as I was when I reported
the bug and have not come across this behavior. You may want to check with
the other subscribers of this bug however.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1211932] Re: [Lenovo S431: GPU Radeon HD 8670A] fails: rendercheck test.

2013-12-20 Thread Ryan Hellyer
I think I'm suffering from the same problem. I have the same machine
(including graphics card) and the OS says it has to run in low graphics
mode. When I try to run in that mode, it sends me to the terminal. If I
choose recovery mode, then bail out and choose "resume normal boot",
then it does load the OS just fine (presumably without the graphics
driver loaded).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1251961] [NEW] Sync xcompmgr 1.1.6-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2013-11-16 Thread Ryan Tandy
Public bug reported:

Please sync xcompmgr 1.1.6-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

xcompmgr has a new maintainer in Debian and the package has been updated
in unstable. Since the Ubuntu delta consisted only of packaging a new
upstream release, I think it can be discarded.

The new Debian package also contains a patch fixing a bug in 1.1.6
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46285). I believe the
Ubuntu package doesn't include this patch.

Changelog entries since current trusty version 1.1.6-0ubuntu1:

xcompmgr (1.1.6-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (Closes: #666464)
- Report correct version (Closes: #571957)
- Fix windows updates when using the SHAPE extension (Closes: #593364)
  * New maintainer (Closes: #729378)
  * Bump debhelper compat level to 9
  * Switch to short-form rules
  * Remove spurious debian-changes-1.1.5-1 patch
  * Remove not needed *.install file
  * Drop versioned Build-Depends (versions already in oldstable)
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.5 (no changes needed)
  * Add 01_fix-shadows.patch to fix shadow drawing
  * Update copyright file to Copyright-Format 1.0
  * Add Vcs-* headers

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1235516] Re: service networking restart causes Xorg crash

2013-10-19 Thread Ryan Schoppmeyer
I actually am having the exact same problem, right down to the lead-up.
After resuming from suspend I found myself unable to connect to wireless
networks, so I tried restarting networking with 'service networking
restart'. lightdm and everything under it immediately went down hard.
I was able to get to a VT, and when I tried to 'service lightdm start',
the computer stopped responding to keyboard input, and shut down when I
tapped the power button. Upon restarting, I tried to restart networking
immediately after logging in, and the window manager ended up trapped in
a restart loop. I then tried booting to the login screen, switching to
a VT, stopping lightdm, restarting networking, and starting lightdm, but
lightdm fails to start.

Cursory examination of the logs provided by the original reporter
indicate that our hardware is radically different. This leads me to be
skeptical of the memory hardware diagnosis. It seems outlandishly
improbable that two completely different computers would experience
reproducible corruption of the same byte of kernel memory without any
other discernable memory errors.

This is 100% reproducible on my system. Do you need anything from me?

I then tried a clean install of 13.04 (as opposed to 12.10 then 13.04 as
before) and have had a couple of hangs. The first was a "soft hang"
where I could kill my desktop session by switching to a virtual console.
The rest have been hard machine hangs, the last one while I was on
youtube.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1130175] Re: [8xx mesa] Unity can't start on laptop

2013-05-02 Thread Ryan Press
Oops I didn't mean to change the bug status.

Anyway. Thanks Chris! I tried your patch and it does seem to get
farther along, but not quite. This is the error I see now:

Mesa 9.1.1 implementation error: unexpected format GL_DEPTH_COMPONENT in
_mesa_choose_tex_format()

2013-04-03 Thread Ryan Lovett
Reuben: were you able to switch to another virtual console? When I was on
raring I'd sometimes be able to switch and then kill X, other times not and
the machine wouldn't be accessible on the network.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058040] Re: fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal

2013-03-31 Thread Ryan Shipe
Any new information on this bug? My HD4650 hates life ever since I
upgraded to 12.10 just like everyone else. I have been searching all
over the web and trying various things but haven't found a workaround
that works yet...thanks!

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1129679] Re: Server hangs preceded by "EQ overflowing."

2013-03-22 Thread Ryan Lovett
The reason I haven't followed up recently is because I downgraded to
12.10.

My raring crashes usually caused the whole machine to hang.
