[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310170] Re: fglrx DRI initialization fails on Radeon HD 7660G (Trinity)

2014-04-20 Thread S. Christian Collins
Turns out fglrx was in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-local.conf for some
reason. After removing it, the Catalyst driver works fine. Marking the
bug as invalid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310170] [NEW] fglrx DRI initialization fails on Radeon HD 7660G (Trinity)

2014-04-19 Thread S. Christian Collins
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from Precise to Trusty, I can no longer activate OpenGL
desktop effects in KDE. Upon investigating, I find the following in the
Xorg.log file:

and fglrxinfo returns:

operation)

Purging fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle and reinstalling the driver doesn't fix
anything. The previous driver on Ubuntu Precise worked fine (fglrx
12.104, if I recall).

2013-02-12 Thread S. Christian Collins
Patrick, is this the bug you are experiencing?:
http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=553

This is what I'm currently experiencing using KDE + fglrx drivers,
unless I use the xrender backend or disable compositing altogether.
Unfortunately, using xrender causes issues with windowed OpenGL apps not
updating their screen contents :(

Patrick, does using Xrender as kwin's compositing backend work as a
workaround? That's how I resolved my blank screen freezes using previous
versions of the fglrx driver. I haven't been able to get a freeze using
13.1 + kwin OpenGL backend yet, but we'll see...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 969860] Re: fglrx uses 100% CPU when screen turns off (spinning in glXWaitVideoSyncSGI or glXSwapBuffers)

2012-11-19 Thread S. Christian Collins
With the fglrx driver on my laptop using Kubuntu, I have to turn off
screen blanking, because every once in a while it causes my system to
hang when the screen blanks. I am able to reset gracefully using
ALT+PrintScrn+REISUB. I wonder if this is related to the same fglrx bug.
I will try running my desktop without OpenGL compositing and see if that
makes a difference.

Chowno, issuing the following command will tell you which clock source
is being used. The first line is the available clock sources, and the
second line is the currently active clock source:

cat /sys/devices/system/clocksource/clocksource0/*

On my system, this returns:
tsc hpet acpi_pm
hpet

I had to switch to hpet since the tsc timing source is inaccurate on my
system and caused system instability.

I noticed the Muse sequencer also causes the same artifacts and lockups
when resizing. While playing around with options, I discovered the
following workaround that fixes the artifacting/freezes on all offending
applications. Launch the application as follows:

env XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 konsole

This means the app's transparency won't work, but at least the
application will now resize correctly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 609372] [NEW] Intel 915GM/GMS/910GML graphics corruption after resume from suspend

2010-07-23 Thread S. Christian Collins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

** Bug Description **
After resuming from suspend, I eventually experience some graphics corruption.
It seems to occur only once after each resume from suspend. So far it has
happened in Firefox (on the middle of a web page) and the terminal (see
attached screenshot). If I scroll up or down in the window containing the
corruption, the corrupted area scrolls with the rest of the window contents. I
currently have Compiz enabled, so I will test with Compiz disabled and see if
that makes any difference.

On first glance, this bug seems similar to bug #599873, but the screen
corruption I experience is very different from the screenshot posted in
that bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 555169] Re: Keyboard and mouse freeze after grub

2010-05-05 Thread S. Christian Collins
Hi Christoph,

In /etc/default/grub, make sure you add acpi=off to the line that
begins: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=

So, that line should now read:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash acpi=off

FYI, this works for me on a Dell Inspiron 2650, the only problem being
that the laptop never powers off after shutdown. You will hear the fans
stop spinning, and the screen will stop animating, and then you'll have
to press the power button. Everything else seems to work just fine.

It says this bug was fixed in xserver-xorg-video-intel
2:2.9.1-1ubuntu16, but I am experiencing the bug with that exact version
installed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381493] Re: i945 (dell d430) karmic randomly stops updating display and responding to keyboard/mouse

2009-11-22 Thread S. Christian Collins
Okay, so the freezes are definitely related to suspend mode. If I don't
suspend my laptop, it never freezes, but I am almost guaranteed a freeze
sometime after resuming from suspend. Unfortunately, the freezes still
happen with the 2.9.1 Intel drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381493] Re: i945 (dell d430) karmic randomly stops updating display and responding to keyboard/mouse

2009-10-28 Thread S. Christian Collins
I'm starting to suspect that the lockups might be happening sometime
after resuming from suspend mode. I'm going to not use suspend on my
system for a while to see if the freezes go away.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 451382] [NEW] desktop effects occasionally extremely slow

2009-10-14 Thread S. Christian Collins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

** Bug Description **
About one out of every three times I boot into Ubuntu, the desktop effects are
extremely slow/choppy, so much so that dragging an open Nautilus window around
the screen looks like a slide show. Checking the system monitor, nothing seems
to be hogging the CPU or RAM, so the cause of the slowdown is not apparent to
me. Logging off and back on always returns things to normal (so far).
