[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 683165] Re: ugly permanent artefact on minimizing

2011-04-25 Thread Teej
If they are a different problem, it would be best to open a new bug report.
However, if the cause is the same it may all relate to one specific graphics
driver. Can you tell us which version of the nvidia driver you are using please?
Assigned to xorg for now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507062] Re: synaptic assert failure: synaptic: ../../src/xcb_io.c:385: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed.

2011-04-01 Thread Teej
For something which you think is a different problem, or *is* a
different problem or hardware, *always* file another bug report. Better
to have 100 bug reports separated than 100 problems in 1 report.

It looks like the upstream bug report has stagnated, do they need
reporting back on the test case, or just forgot about it?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 518938] Re: black screen on Intel HM55 - during boot and Xorg

2011-03-20 Thread Teej
This bug report is being closed since the original reporter no longer has this
issue. As stated a few times on this report, and many others (and in the bug
reporting guidelines); even if you have the same hardware, file another bug
report. It's better to have several bug reports with slightly different
problems and different machines than to mess around trying to sift through
several pages of rubbish to find one thing. If Bug Control or BugSquad find
that it is the same problem, it'll be marked as a duplicate and you'll be
subscribed to the master bug report.
Thank you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 292861] Re: touchpad sensitivity goes down (probably to lowest) on resume

2010-12-29 Thread Teej
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and
your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a
lot if you could test the current Ubuntu version (10.10). If you can test it,
and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs
by running apport-collect bug #, and any other logs that are relevant for
this particular issue.

2010-12-23 Thread Teej
Thanks Bryce for getting back on this one :)
When the initial boot fails, it does so with a blank screen, although sometimes
there is a small purple bar (about 1 cm) at the very top of the screen,
probably from the splash screen. I am unable to Ctrl+Alt+F# to anything to see
what processes are running etc.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 692187] Re: desktop fails to appear without enabling failsafe graphics first

2010-12-21 Thread Teej
I have changed the bug report to just one problem, since the window bars seem
fine now (possibly a partially broken update previously).
I am using the standard Gnome desktop (not Unity). There were no changes made
by myself to xorg.conf or anything (other than what I have done below if that
changes any configurations). What I did (and have to do to boot to gdm) is:

1. Choose recovery mode in the GRUB boot menu
2. Choose X failsafe mode
3. Allow system to boot to gdm login screen.
4. Choose to restart at the login screen.
5. Allow system to reboot.
6. Choose the normal Ubuntu boot option in GRUB.

Once that is done, there are no further problems, until the system is
shut down or rebooted.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655078] Re: Beta 10.10 Nvidia update broke Sony Vaio VPCF136FM installation

2010-10-12 Thread Teej
This may be related to a known issue, which is in the release notes
(available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MaverickMeerkat/ReleaseNotes#Graphics%20and%20Display).
Specifically:

* The new Xorg 1.9 available in Maverick is not compatible with nVidia
based chipsets that use the (nvidia-96) and (nvidia-173) drivers. Bug
626974

I'm assuming everyone here has a Sony Vaio VPC series?
Different hardware needs a different bug report, so if you don't have the same
as the original reporter, please file a new bug report with ubuntu-bug, this is
far too cluttered as it is, hence the Opinion status.

Thanks guys.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 638410] [NEW] maverick - X or kdm freezes after boot nVidia Geforce 7050

2010-09-14 Thread Teej
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I can only provide info from a working install of Kubuntu 10.04, since
10.10 is pretty much unusable, had to reinstall Lucid to be able to send
any kind of report, since w3m (text-based web browser) does not allow me
to login in Launchpad.

X or kdm completely freezes after booting 10.10. All updates 12th
September - I chose to install all available updates during install.

In 3 years of using Ubuntu, I never knew you could do that. Since there
is a high chance this won't be fixed any time too soon, I think it would
be a good idea to convert this to a question for the sake of the
minority of other small screen users, so that at least some help can be
found. Thank you Arnaud for the suggestion :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 509376] [NEW] [lucid] nvidia-current failed to initialise

2010-01-18 Thread Teej
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Following the instructions at the alpha 2 page under Known Issues
using the nvidia-current driver failed, forcing X to start in low
graphics mode.

Excerpt from wiki page:

Jockey (Ubuntu's restricted driver manager) doesn't yet support the new
alternatives system used by the nvidia driver packages, so in order to
install nvidia drivers you will have to install them from the command
line:

*

  sudo apt-get install nvidia-current (or nvidia-173 or nvidia-96)
* select the alternative that matches the driver that you have installed
  o

(e.g. /usr/lib/nvidia-current/ld.so.conf for nvidia-
current):

sudo update-alternatives --config gl_conf
* update the ld cache:
  o

sudo ldconfig
* then configure your xorg.conf with:
  o

sudo nvidia-xconfig
* And restart your computer.

I did select option 0 (ld.so.conf) in ldconfig as above, but it failed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 78470] Re: switching to current logged in user freezes gdm

2010-01-14 Thread Teej
sergio, Are you a developer or MOTU? If not, I would really suggest that
you do not change status at all, as you obviously don't know what you're
doing. Fix Committed is for updates that are FIXED but awaiting upload
to the main Ubuntu repos. This will be returned to Incomplete and the
Launchpad team will be notified of your misuse of the Launchpad tracker.
Thank you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 327805] Re: Keyboard layout switching hotkey becomes disabled after monitor power-save

2010-01-14 Thread Teej
I would guess that this was filed under the wrong package and should have been
xorg. Can you try this in a Live CD of Lucid please? If this is a problem there
please run
apport-collect 327805
and allow it to pull in all the information. You may need to install the
python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when
prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give
it at least the ability to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding
information to your bug report. Thanks in advance.
