[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 963798] [NEW] No visible desktop with radeon 3D driver in Precise
Public bug reported: I have just updated a Oneiric desktop to Precise. I can run a desktop if I login with a Unity 2D but not with 3D. The mouse pointer apears with a black background and Xorg.log shows errors (EE) RADEON(0): [DRI2] DRI2SwapInterval: bad drawable The graphics card is a Radeon 5770. Note, using a different drive, I had installed fresh image and it was all working fine, but this upgrade to Precise has left the Unity 3D environment in a non-functioning state for graphics. I can login at the CLI on a separate terminal when in Unity 3D, the machine has not locked up. I will attach the Xorg.0.log.old below ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-20.32-generic 3.2.12 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-20-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 1.95-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None Date: Sat Mar 24 21:33:38 2012 DistUpgraded: 2012-03-24 19:04:35,204 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: precise DistroVariant: ubuntu EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, whatever it takes to get this fixed in Ubuntu InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Release amd64 (20111012) MachineType: System manufacturer System Product Name ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-20-generic root=UUID=294d8dad-231e-44c9-a3f4-ffc49932ab52 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xserver-xorg-video-ati UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to precise on 2012-03-24 (0 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 01/13/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 1202 dmi.board.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.board.name: M2V-MX dmi.board.vendor: ASUSTeK Computer INC. dmi.board.version: Rev 1.xx dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Asset-1234567890 dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: Chassis Manufacture dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr1202:bd01/13/2009:svnSystemmanufacturer:pnSystemProductName:pvrSystemVersion:rvnASUSTeKComputerINC.:rnM2V-MX:rvrRev1.xx:cvnChassisManufacture:ct3:cvrChassisVersion: dmi.product.name: System Product Name dmi.product.version: System Version dmi.sys.vendor: System manufacturer version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.7.2-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs 20090808ubuntu35 version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.32-1ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 8.0.2-0ubuntu2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 8.0.2-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu7 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20111201+b5534a1-1build2 ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug precise ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/963798 Title: No visible desktop with radeon 3D driver in Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/963798/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 856312] Re: Cant set resolution with two monitors
In a fresh install of Oneiric, I had a dual screen setup with 3D capability adequate for compiz effects. Then I tried fglrx but had issues with the dual monitor setup and setting resolutions with amdcccle so I uninstalled fglrx. However, it seems that there are some after effects of having had fglrx installed which mean some packages need to be reinstalled. These steps got me back to a clean dual monitor setup with the free radeon driver for both a radeon 5870 and a 5770. http://gurrier.wordpress.com/2011/10/30/amd-video-problems-in- ubuntu-11-10-oneiric-ocelot/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/856312 Title: Cant set resolution with two monitors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/856312/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747246] Re: amdcccle crashed with SIGSEGV in QWidget::ungrabGesture()
I've been able to workaround this problem by cleanly uninstalling fglrx and reinstalling some components as detailed here. http://gurrier.wordpress.com/2011/10/30/amd-video-problems-in- ubuntu-11-10-oneiric-ocelot/ Now I have the free radeon driver running a dual monitor configuration complete with 3D effects from Compiz. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 858585] [NEW] Second display flickers badly on redraw using fglrx in Oneric
Public bug reported: In a recent update, my second monitor has started flickering badly when using the fglrx driver with a Radeon 5870. I've uninstalled it and found that wirh the radeon or simple vesafb, there is no flicker. As soon as I install fglrx and reboot, the flicker recurs. I have a cloned (i.e. mirrored) desktop while testing this and the flicker is still there although not very distracting now. Happens in both Unity 2D and 3D. I will switch back to an extended desktop with Compiz effects to comfirm the issue I had earlier which was almost unusable flicker only on the second desktop. apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon I have a Powercolor ATI Radeon HD5770 graphics card on an ASUS M2V-MX motherboard. The motherboard has two RAM slots which can take up to 2Gb each. If I use with either of my 2Gb DIMMS in either slot it works fine. If I then try with both DIMMs in place, the login screen appears scrambled. I can actually provide a password and can hear the login tune but the screen is just a garbled mess. I have also tried the proprietary ATI driver fglrx with the same outcome. This is on 64-bit Ubuntu v11.04 Natty Beta with all of the latest updates. I'd be happy to assist with any further testing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 756540] Re: ATI graphics card fails when RAM increased to 4Gb on Natty Beta
My machine is dual boot with Maverick 10.10 (ATI proprietary drivers) and also Natty 11.04 (radeon drivers). I have tried both a 5770 and a 5870 chipset card under both versions of Ubuntu and all 4 combinations fail if the the extra 2Gb DIMM is inserted. If I leave it with a single 2Gb, they work (apart from a recent issue with a Natty update on the 5770 which causes serious GPU lockups that make the desktop unusable). This other seemingly unrelated issue i being tracked at... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/775575 I will post a photo of the screens (dual screen display configuration) next. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/756540 Title: ATI graphics card fails when RAM increased to 4Gb on Natty Beta ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 756540] Re: ATI graphics card fails when RAM increased to 4Gb on Natty Beta
This photo is of one of the two screens attached to the ATI Radeon 5870 under Natty. All latest updates have been installed. The system is still responsive as I can Ctrl-Alt-F1 and see a change in the screen and then ctrl-Alt-F7 reverts to the image here. However, on some reboots the system hangs. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 775575] [NEW] GPU lockup with Radeon 5770 on Natty release
Public bug reported: I have been running Natty since Alpha versions and have been constantly upgrading to the latest every few days. I now have the latest updates applied and am getting a GPU lockup with the radeon driver and a ATI Radeon HD5770. The machine dual boots with Maverick which is the environment I am logging this bug report from. The Natty environment is basically unusuable since the GPU lockups which occur every 11 seconds stop me from being able to run ubuntu-bug (or anything else for that matter). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 756540] [NEW] ATI graphics card fails when RAM increased to 4Gb on Natty Beta
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon I have a Powercolor ATI Radeon HD5770 graphics card on an ASUS M2V-MX motherboard. Not working for me. I've updated everything and tried the ignoreABI option to no avail. Then configured with the GUI tool for nvidia and it reverted to second and would not work. After moving it back to top of file, all is well. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616626] [NEW] Maverick Alpha 3 hangs on boot if using nvidia rather than nouveau
Public bug reported: An upgrade from Lucid to Maverick led to a change from nvidia driver to nouveau. The nouveau drivers seems to work fine part from not being able to enable the compiz desktop effects. Using the nvidia driver means that the default kernel 2.6.35-14-generic will lockup on boot (this is also the case for the recovery mode option, by the way). In this scenario, with nvidia specified in xorg.conf, I had to rely on an old mainline kernel that I had to install to boot in graphics failsafe in order to alter the xorg.conf to allow booting with nouveau again. Happy to test as directed to locate the issue. I have the same issue with nvidia kernel but nouveau works fine. Only an Alt-Sysrq-B gets any response even in recovery mode for 2.6.35-14-generic kernel. Fortunately, I still had a mainline kernel (2.6.34-020634-generic) from testing before I upgraded to Maverick from Lucid. This kernel in recovery mode allowed me to get back in to set nouveau as the driver. I reported this in the duplicate bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/616626 -- nVidia card : X won't start since 1.9 update, no screens found https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/616023 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616023] Re: nVidia card : X won't start since 1.9 update, no screens found
I ran the recovery mode for that kernel and was able to choose the failsafe video option. Then I chose to reconfigure graphics and setup a new configuration. Finally restarted X and was into a desktop environment again. Then I was able to restore the old xorg.conf that was replaced bu the broken one dependent on nvidia drivers. nouveau worked for me i the first place so it was just a matter of getting back to that state. -- nVidia card : X won't start since 1.9 update, no screens found https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/616023 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
