[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 524774] Re: xmodmap failure BadValue error, 118 (X_SetModifierMapping)
For those who specifically only wish to make Caps Lock into Control, I found help at this site: http://mina86.com/2009/10/11/more-control-no-caps-lock/ What it says: 1) Open /etc/default/console-setup 2) Add ctrl:nocaps to XKBOPTIONS, for example from XKBOPTIONS= to XKBOPTIONS=ctrl:nocaps (in my case from XKBOPTIONS=grp:alts_toggle to XKBOPTIONS=grp:alts_toggle,ctrl:nocaps) 3) Run dpkg-reconfigure console-setup as root and make all the correct choices for your setup It worked for me! I bet more options can be put there that could solve other problems too. -- xmodmap failure BadValue error, 118 (X_SetModifierMapping) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524774 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461107] [NEW] 1) monitor settings not saved properly and 2) 'main monitor' setting missing using nvidia-settings in 9.10 RC
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-settings I have a Dell laptop with an external monitor. I have made a clean 9.10 beta install that has been updated to RC 1) Using Separate X screen configuration, when I set the laptop monitor to be 'right of' and the external monitor to be 'absolute', save to xorg.conf, and log in and out again, this setting does not take effect. When I check the display configuration again, it is the laptop monitor that is 'absolute' and the external monitor is now 'right of' - the opposite of what I tried to configure. 2) Furthermore, the 'left of' and 'right of' setting do not matter anyway, because the two screens are independent. In 9.04 only one screen (the 'main monitor') would have the menu bar and I could move windows between the two monitors as if they were one big monitor. Now I can't do that, and also the option to select 'main monitor' is gone.
