[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490031] Re: Radeon 9250 no 3D.

2010-02-16 Thread Walter Kerkhofs
[2.314151] [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810

[2.42] [drm] radeon default to kernel modesetting DISABLED.

[ 27.352666] agpgart-amd64 :00:00.0: AGP 3.5 bridge
[ 27.352686] agpgart-amd64 :00:00.0: putting AGP V3 device into 8x mode
[ 27.352755] pci :01:00.0: putting AGP V3 device into 8x mode

This is my dmesg from today with no changes at all.
As you can see DRM gets loaded before the agpgart module, and there is a line
further up above about AGP but that is about the agp bus that gets found.

So before I try the mainline kernel I want to know wath you think of
this.

Greetings,

Walter Kerkhofs

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490031] Re: Radeon 9250 no 3D.

2010-02-15 Thread Walter Kerkhofs
Today I think I found the problem, and maybe the solution to.
After some Googling for agpgart I found that my agpgart module gets loaded
after the DRI module.
While it has to be the otherway around.

Can I solve this by putting an entry for the agpgart module in
/etc/modules ?

Please let me know what you think.

What is the right name for this module when I use the Radeon driver ?

Thanks in advance,

Walter Kerkhofs

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490031] Re: Radeon 9250 no 3D.

2009-12-03 Thread Walter Kerkhofs
I don't think so, I did not change anything in the BIOS.

After I installed the updates for KDE 4.3.4 and rebooted, I landed in
the console so I did:

Start x

and Gnome started up, so I booted the rescue system and edited the xorg.conf
file by hand with Joe.
I changed the driver too Radeon, and rebooted again.
This time I had to chose the console and KDE started up fine.

In the past I had also put the AGPmode option in this file, but when I tried
this I landed in a black screen.
In Jaunty the xorg.conf file was empty, and 3D with compiz worked just fine.

Greetings

Walter Kerkhofs

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490031] Re: Radeon 9250 no 3D.

2009-11-30 Thread Walter Kerkhofs
Some more information that I forgot to give.

Just after the release of 9.10 Karmic I found that this card still is suported
by the fglrx driver, so I installed fglrx and made the change in the
/etc/X11/xorg.conf file.
After the reboot everything worked fine, but my Internet conection was gone.
So I removed everything with the name fglrx from my system in Synaptic, and
changed my xorg.conf back like it was before.

Also I have all the codecs installed including flash, but I still can
not watch flash movies.

My favorite game is Foobillard, but it runs very slow now.

Thanks in advance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490031] [NEW] Radeon 9250 no 3D.

2009-11-29 Thread Walter Kerkhofs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

After the upgrade to Karmic my desktop was black, but I still had the panel and
could use compiz.
Then I found this:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8221972postcount=6

After the changes to /etc/X11/xorg.conf my desktop was back but 3D was disabled.
This card always worked fine with other releases of Kubuntu.

I have found other bugs wich I think are related:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
ati/+bug/293698

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
ati/+bug/348332

I use the driver from this ppa:

https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

After I read about it on the blog of Mr. Harrington.
When I start the pc I get a message that I can only use Ubuntu in a low
resolution, and then it starts in the right resolution.

My system is:

Distribution: Kubuntu Karmic with the latest updates.
Monitor: AGneovo F-417 with resolution 1280 x1024
GPU: ATI Radeon 9250

I am reporting this because this is the only way I can help to make
K/Ubuntu beter.
