[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1907308] Re: screen brightness up/down keys not working in LENOVO IdeaPad 5 15IIL05

2020-12-08 Thread Wladimir Mutel
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected has-workaround hirsute reproducible
single-occurrence ubuntu

** Description changed:

The keys marked for brightness control on the keyboard are supposed to be
Fn+F5 (down) and Fn+F6 (up).
But pressing them does not have any effects.
Volume control keys Fn+F1 (off), Fn+F2 (down), Fn+F3 (up) all do work, and
KDE shows appropriate indicators when they are pressed.
I know this is a popular problem with Lenovo laptops.
I use Ubuntu 21.04 Hirsute on built-in NVMe, but Ubuntu 20.04 booted from USB
flash drive also does not allow me to control screen brightness.
Hardware and OS information will be collected on Apport request and attached
here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1499055] [NEW] Wily: Mesa 11.0 causes hang in Intel Xorg driver, reverting to 10.6.3 fixes

2015-09-23 Thread Wladimir Mutel
Public bug reported:

I am testing Wily on Kubuntu package set with SDDM display manager.
After upgrading Mesa packages from 10.6.3 to 11.0.0 I found that graphical
logon screen does not appear, and the system freezes with black screen,
non-blinking cursor and non-responding keyboard
I disabled SDDM service in systemctl and could log in to text console.
Then I found that 'startx' command freezes the system as well.
In dpkg.log I found that Mesa packages were updated last, from v. 10.6.3 to
11.0.0.
I downloaded older versions from Ubuntu pool mirror and installed them by dpkg
-i.
After that, GUI operation was fixed, and I re-enabled SDDM and continue using
my system without more significant problems.

My system is Acer 1830T, made in 2010, CPU is Core i3-380UM with
integrated GPU (Westmere/Ironlake/Arrandale, reported as gen5 in
Xorg.0.log).

Please investigate and fix this issue. Please ask me if you need more
testing or more details.

I will be back from vacation on Jan 19th and then test report on #28 more

Now I can only tell than with kernel 3.18.0-9.10 it shows both WW and EE in the
Xorg.0.log, and turns off acceleration (unfortunately I have this log already
rotated on my system)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 808478] Re: Input detection fails in oneiric

2011-07-12 Thread Wladimir Mutel
What solved my problem,
was reading /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg/howto/configure-input.txt.gz
and running
udevadm trigger --subsystem-match=input --action=change
as described in this doc.
(this I did in remote ssh session from another computer to my laptop)
However I don't understand why such action is needed now.
Earlier, kbdmouse worked well in X without that.
This could be a bug in updated udev or initramfs scripts.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805337] [NEW] xdm does not set audio device ACL through pam_ck_connector (Natty)

2011-07-04 Thread Wladimir Mutel
Public bug reported:

On one my Ubuntu Natty system, I have a very simple X11 GUI setup : just
plain xdm and icewm (and no PulseAudio)

After one reboot, I noticed that audio devices are inaccessible in GUI session.
I looked into PAM configs and found that /etc/pam.d/xdm includes
pam.d/common-session which contains this line :

session optional pam_ck_connector.so nox11

common-session config file was modified on Jun 02nd, and I checked in
dpkg logs that on this day, libpam* packages were upgraded from
1.1.2-2ubuntu8 to 1.1.2-2ubuntu8.3 . Actually, this 'nox11' option could
be brought in on upgrade from Maverick to Natty , I am not sure when,
because the system was not rebooted at that time and continued to run
with Maverick kernel xdm long after that.

Somewhere in Gentoo forums I read that you have to remove 'nox11' from
xdm PAM config. So I juts had to add the line after include statement :

@include common-session
session optional pam_ck_connector.so

after doing that and restarting xdm, I have audio access in my X11
sessions back again.

probably this specific has to be reflected in xdm PAM configuration included in
its package, and not require additional manual configuration by the end-user.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805337] Re: xdm does not set audio device ACL through pam_ck_connector (Natty)

2011-07-04 Thread Wladimir Mutel
I would not add 'kubuntu' tag as Kubuntu uses kdm, not xdm.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 360319] Re: [GM45] memory leak causes system to run out of memory (UXA/EXA)

2009-06-22 Thread Wladimir Mutel
I am testing the current Karmic, with package versions :
xserver-xorg-video-intel2:2.7.99.1+git20090602.ec2fde7c-0ubuntu2
xserver-xorg 1:7.4~5ubuntu21
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.6.1.901-2ubuntu1

and KDE packages version, mostly, 4.2.90, as they are in Karmic
currently. No GNOME apps except nm-applet. GTK apps : Pidgin and
Seamonkey. xrestop shows that top X resources are used by Okular, about
136 MB.

I have 2GB RAM but my X server VSZ inflates up to 2 GB very soon after
the reboot (during the first day of uptime) and starts to push
everything else to the swap.

Hope to get an update from Karmic fixing that. Soon. Subscribing for
this bug now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 376092] Re: [i945] Running Out of Memory with composited managers (UXA bug)

2009-06-22 Thread Wladimir Mutel
This bug could well be duplicate of 360319
I.e. you probably don't need 3d composition effects to trigger and reproduce it.
