[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1850931] [NEW] screen corruption after sleep mode
Public bug reported: When my laptop goes into sleep mode, and I log back in, the screen is corrupted. I wanted to report with ubuntu-bug, but that doesn't open a browser window so it doesn't report a bug. I'll attach a screenshot of the corrupted screen. It stays corrupted until I restart the computer. The laptop is a new Dell XPS 15 with a GEforce GTX 1650 card. I use Ubuntu 19.04. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2019-11-01 14-36-26.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850931/+attachment/5302044/+files/Screenshot%20from%202019-11-01%2014-36-26.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850931 Title: screen corruption after sleep mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1850931/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1531845] Re: Xorg freeze
I have been working with no problems since Jan. 20. Today an Ubuntu update wanted me to reboot, then after reboot the computer froze when I started Android Studio. Rebooted again, same, and again. What seems to help is when I type IBUS_ENABLE_SYNC_MODE=1 ibus-daemon -xrd (from here: http://tools.android.com/knownissues/ibus) I'm not sure if this actually works, but now I disabled ibus and I have no freeze. The issue they report is different from what I see. For now, I'll just never reboot my computer. I hope someone is working on the bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1531845] Re: Xorg freeze
Nouveau makes it worse. When I start Android Studio, Firefox immediately grays out, AS stops loading before it even opens a window. Then the computer remains frozen, until I stop java processes in a shell. Also, I don't see how a graphics issue can make CPU2 or CPU3 hang, but never one of the other CPUs. It can't be just a bug in Android Studio, because AS should not be capable of hanging up my computer. Also, it can't be just a bug in Ubuntu or in the bios or cpu, because it only happens with Android Studio (except once in gedit and once in a shell). I suspect AS does something other software doesn't do, which triggers a glitch elsewhere. Yesterday night, I ran Prime95 software to calculate Mersenne prime numbers. This kept my cpus at 500% with low priority processes. All software would still run normally, not slower, but AS wouldn't run. It pushed prime to using over 600%, which is weird, and it wouldn't start, just hang until killed. I tried Prime95 because they found a glitch in Intel Skylake cpus. My cpu is 5th generation, not Skylake. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1531845 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1531845/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Oh, I'm sorry. A while ago I re-opened a bug, then I was told I should file a separate bug instead. Never mind. I haven't tried this particular bug with nouveau. The reason I use Nvidia drivers is that I couldn't get my system to work with nouveau. I used to use nouveau until about a year ago. If you want me to try, I can try. Fyi, the bug didn't occur between the first boot with the new bios, and the first reboot after that. I rebooted just to see if that wouldn't bring back the bug. I usually don't reboot that often. After the bios upgrade to 1.8, I have had not a single crash. I rebooted my computer, did everything I could to reproduce the crash, but it didn't happen. I can actually get some work done now. I updated the bios to 1.8, and I managed to build my project in Android Studio a number of times without any freezes. That's more than I've been able to do in the last four or so months. As I have thought the problem had gone before, can we keep the bug open for another few days? I'll let you know, soon as I went through 48 hours without a "100% cpu freeze", you can close the bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1500474] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: My computer freezes randomly a couple of times a day. Sometimes I can log in using ssh from another computer, do a shutdown -r, but that then hangs also. What I've experienced in the last hour is that the computer slowed down and stopped, I had an ssh shell window open on another cocmputer, showing "top". I noticed Xorg took up to 17% of CPU, later up to 26%. I had Eclipse open, and Android Studio, both frozen. From the other computer I stopped Eclipse, AS still frozen. Half an hour later, AS unfroze. Xorg still 16% cpu. I used ubuntu-bug from the shell window, but somehow it didn't get through in Lynx. Right now, the computer mostly unfroze. I have experienced Chrome freezes. There's a bug registered for that, I'll add info after I hit enter, before this computer freezes again. I have replaced graphics card (same model), motherboard, cpu, memory. Orderd new power supply and new model graphics card. Also, I have issues typing the disk decription password, there's a bug report for that. The freeze specifically seems to happen when I click this link in Thunderbird, with Chrome as default browser: http://www.dhl-tracknet.nl/cgi-bin-al/UFA100/NL/?type=UzoekVeld=JVGL058180002261 Today the computer froze when I clicked the link, yesterday it froze twice when this page was open in Chrome. I first thought the issue is Chrome related, but whatever Chrome does, it should not be able to totally freeze my computer. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1338715] [NEW] Snapping windows get enabled automatically sometimes
Public bug reported: Every once in a while, the windows edges get sticky. In combination with Wobbly Windows, this gives an annoying behavior. The setting for snappy windows in compiz is off (stays of), and sticky edges in system settings/display are off and stay off. I resolve the issue by fooling around with these settings and by switching wobbly windows off and on again. But the edges should not get sticky by themselves, should they? It may be related to Google Chrome. I noticed strange behavior of Chrome when this happened just a minute ago, like the Chrome window flickering and turning on and off. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1274109] [NEW] compiz snapping windows make some windows go bad
Public bug reported: I really dislike the windows snapping to the edges of the screen. So I deactivated snapping windows in compiz config settings manager. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 928794] [NEW] wrong window size in update manager so I can't see or click the ok button
Public bug reported: I run ubuntu on an MSI Wind with a small screen. Ubuntu update manager suggests I update packages, but the window it uses is larger than my screen. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 853776] [NEW] can't scroll in some windows
Public bug reported: When I select startup apps from system/preferences, and I go to /usr/bin, I need to scroll down. there's a scroll pointer that's very narrow and orange. When I touch it with my mouse pointer, a bigger scroll handle is displayed next to it. However, when I move there with my mouse pointer, it disappears before I can grab it. I can't scroll with my mouse. This started after I updated to natty. I use ubuntu classic. This scroll thing is annoying anyway, because more often than not, I have to move my mouse pointer around the scroll thing in order to scroll. Also, very often when I want to resize a window, the scroll thing shows up, hiding the resize edge. Sometimes I can fix it by going to compiz config, add 'windows decoration', remove it again, repeat the steps, then sometimes the windows borders come back. Ubuntu is unusable if you can't move or resize windows. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 818862] [NEW] no screen when removing external monitor
Public bug reported: I use an additional monitor with my asus laptop. This works fine, except for the following. I have 11.04 with gnome (ubuntu classic) 1. when I turn my computer on with the monitor attached, I get a black screen on the laptop and an empty background - no menu bar- on the external screen. all I can do is reboot the computer with the on/off swicth. I have to boot the computer without the extra monitor, then plug it in after boot. 2. When I don't use the external monitor, I can use the laptop until it goes to sleep mode. After that happens, it's dead. All I can do is hit the on/off switch. So I have to make sure it never goes to sleep mode. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 775112] [NEW] mouse pointer change doesn't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg As I'm left handed, I use alternative pointers, the CrystalCursor whiteleft pointers. In 10.04 these worked well, in 10.10 they worked sometimes (I reported that on launchpad), but in 11.04 they don't work at all. I have to work with the right handed pointer, which is confusing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 565878] Re: cursor pointer selection gives me different pointer than what I selected
The changes between the two cursors to me are random, but consistent. In the browser it's white, but in the preferences window of the browser it's blue. But then when I select When firefox starts and the dropbox appears, in the dropbox it's white again. After hovering over the dropbox, it gets white and stays white, except in the title bar of the preferences window. white refers to the pointer I have selected, blue refers to the wrong pointer. It would actually be nice to have a lefty pointer in the default setup, but that's another matter. -- cursor pointer selection gives me different pointer than what I selected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/565878 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
