[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1774433] [NEW] Display on Toshiba S75-A7334 stays black
Public bug reported: When I open my notebook computer, Toshiba S75-A7334 (on Windows 10), the screen remains black, unless I repeatedly open and close the lid. This is terribly frustrating. I have been dealing with this for years. Nothing I have tried has worked. I am new to this website, so I'm not sure I am following your proper procedures. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655212] Re: screensaver hangs in rare circumstances
Some follow-up: I can eliminate virt-manager as one of the variables. This behavior can occur even if virt-manager has never been run. And note that power saving *must* kick in; if it's just the screensaver, it seems to work fine. If, however, both screens have blanked themselves and powered down the backlight, this can occur (it happens more than 50% of the time but less than 100%). -- screensaver hangs in rare circumstances https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/655212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655212] [NEW] screensaver hangs in rare circumstances
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I hesitate to report this bug because it is (1) complicated to reproduce, and (2) therefore not likely to occur. Regardless, it does happen and the only reliable workaround is to reboot my laptop. To reproduce this bug, I need to: -- run my lucid laptop with two screens, one on :0 and one on :1, that are different sizes, with the second screen connected via HDMI -- run virt-manager on the larger display (:1) and attempt to install Windows 7 in a 32-bit virtual machine; all interaction with the virtual machine must occur through the virt-manager GUI, not via VNC or other method. -- walk away from the laptop and display long enough for the screen saver to kick in (mine just blanks the screen), AND long enough for power savings mode to kick in -- when you attempt to get the machine's attention by wiggling the mouse or hitting shift on the keyboard, the only response is the cursor flashing in the lower left part of the :1 display -- no password screen, no actual control of the cursor (the mouse does not change the cursor location), At this point, the windowing system is completely unresponsive; logging in from another machine via ssh and restarting gdm can sometimes work (X does not always die), but more often than not it's necessary to reboot the system. If I run the same scenario but remove the second screen (i.e., do everything on the laptop :0 alone), the screen does not lock up. It's also not clear that virt-manager is a key part of the issue -- I can recreate it that way, but it has occurred under other circumstances where I do not recall if virt-manager had been running or not. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573632] Re: Exiting any windowmanager causes kdm to show just a black screen
I'm getting the same thing, on an old Dell Inspiron 8200. Video card is an nVidia GeForce4 440 Go, using the 96.43.17 driver. I also tried the 96.43.16 driver with the same results. One strange thing that I found was that using gdm for a display manager, the problem goes away. With gdm, I can log out, and still have a working system with terminals, and it will log back in OK. Using either kdm or xdm, I have nothing but black screens after logging out. When I ssh into the computer (after logging out of KDE), top shows 99% cpu for Xorg. If I kill the process, then the login screen returns, and I can log back in to KDE. Here's the result of tail -f /var/log/Xorg.0.log as I am logging out of KDE: II) Video Bus: Close (II) UnloadModule: "evdev" (II) Power Button: Close (II) UnloadModule: "evdev" (II) Sleep Button: Close (II) UnloadModule: "evdev" (II) Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse: Close (II) UnloadModule: "evdev" (II) AT Translated Set 2 keyboard: Close (II) UnloadModule: "evdev" (II) DualPoint Stick: Close (II) UnloadModule: "evdev" (II) UnloadModule: "synaptics" (II) Macintosh mouse button emulation: Close (II) UnloadModule: "evdev" (II) Open ACPI successful (/var/run/acpid.socket) (II) APM registered successfully (II) NVIDIA(0): Initialized GART. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 449196] Re: High Xorg CPU usage?
Don't know if this helps hone in on the issue, but here are the symptoms on the box I have that's similarly affected: - it happens when i have two gui sessions on say vt7 and vt8 logged in as different users - as i switch back and forth between the two, the Xorg related to the vt that's *NOT* visible goes to 100% - sometimes it takes a minute or two after a vt switch to go up to 100%. - when it goes to 100%, it does it suddenly - it doesn't "ramp up" - it only saturates one of the two cores at any given time, though it does switch back and forth between them over time. - it does not seem to be related to a screensaver, since it happens in far less than the 15 minutes that's set to kick in at. - if Ii switch to a text session - say vt1, the high cpu remains with the Xorg pid it was already saturating (i.e. the one *not* visible prior to the switch to vt1). it doesn't saturate the other one. This is a new karmic beta install, though I also ave an lv with a system that I upgraded into karmic that I could still boot into. That behaved the same way - that behavior is what drove me to try doing a new install. All fwiw - hope it helps. I'd be happy to supply any info about my system that might be needed/useful. -- High Xorg CPU usage? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/449196 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
