Font corruption does only affect some fonts - not all. I've never experienced the corruption when using Chromium, when observing the same webpage scrambled in Firefox. I've never experienced this font corruption on pre-Natty releases (I skipped Maverick). The first time I suffered from corrupted fonts was on Natty using Unity 3D. I'm wondering if this corruption can be related to the Ubuntu font? Or an interplay of Ubuntu font and Unity 3D? (The Nvidia binary driver detects it properly). dmesg output is similar, but the invalid edid is even more suspicious looking: [drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* EDID checksum is invalid, remainder is 130 [drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* Raw EDID: 301 ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff 3ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff 3ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff 3ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff 3ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff 3ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff 3ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff 3ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/588661 Title: Black screen on boot (EDID checksum is invalid) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687466] [NEW] dock icons disappearing on reopen (all programs)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Here are the exact steps I take to cause the problem: 1. Open any program. I'll use the Calculator program for this example. 2. Right click the Calculator icon on the dock and select Pin To Launcher 3. Right click the Calculator icon on the dock and select Quit. (The Calculator program quits and the Calculator icon is still pinned to the dock as expected) 4. Right click the Calculator icon on the dock and select Pin To Launcher (The Calculator icon on the dock disappears as expected) 5. Open the Calculator program. The icon will not appear in the dock as expected. The Calculator program will however open as expected. This happens with all of the programs I've tested. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687494] Re: application window opens behind other windows
I tried this on two different laptops (Samsung and HP) on the livecd and both have the same bug. I did a full install on my Samsung and the bug was still there, but I did not get a chance to try the classic desktop. After a reset the laptop booted into a purple screen and froze. Subsequent resets did not alleviate the problem. Also, I was not able to activate the effects in the 'Change Background' menu. Whenever I tried to do this on the livecd the effects automatically turned off (or at least the indicator in 'change background' showed them as turned off) on both laptops. No error message showing. Possible bug? I attempted to reproduce this bug with other applications but they worked fine. Only the 'applications' window seems to do it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/687494 Title: application window opens behind other windows ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685363] [NEW] xserver-xorg-video-ati: 3D acceleration problems
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Hello everyone, A few weeks ago, I installed Ubuntu 10.10 x86_64 on my AMD 64 desktop computer. Everything works well except the 3D acceleration required in some games. The graphics are running very slowly and/or flickering, or crash. I have an ATI Radeon RS482 Xpress 200 and the open-source Xserver-xorg-video-radeon and -ati doesn't seem to take charge correctly of 3D. I proceed as you wrote. Summary: With linux- image-2.6.35-999-generic_2.6.35-999.201006301005_amd64.deb as the latest mainline kernel and xorg-edgers I almost got the same error, desktop starts to hang after paraview action. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585923] Re: [gm45] xserver completely freezes each time when executing paraview
Hi! Sorry for my late reply, others things kept me from more testing. So here is the (hopefully) better report. As I wrote my system crashes 100% reliably each time I use paraview, load a file, add a cutplane in paraview and try to rotate the object. Crashes means the following phases: 1. Mouse cursor starts to stutter, indicate high workload. 2. xserver/KDM dies (black screen) 3. Tries to restart xserver/kdm. I see the typical load cursor symbol (when kdm is usually starting) flickering on an otherwise black screen. 4. Loading stops and system freezes completely. Just seeing a black screen and a terminal cursor in the upper left corner. Not possible to change to any other TTY from 1-6. None of the magic key combination works (I tested them also during a normal session, and then they work). BTW, I get also occasionally a xserver restart when I change to TTY 1-6 (which caused that I had to write this comment twice :) Use me at your guinea pig and tell if there is more I can test/crash :) or other information you need. These are the packages I upgraded: [OPPGRADER] intel-gpu-tools 1.0.2+git20100324-0ubuntu1 - 1.0.2+git20100515-0ubuntu0sarvatt~lucid [OPPGRADER] libdrm-dev 2.4.18-1ubuntu3 - 2.4.20+git20100527.607e228c-0ubuntu0sarvatt2~lucid [OPPGRADER] libdrm-intel1 2.4.18-1ubuntu3 - 2.4.20+git20100527.607e228c-0ubuntu0sarvatt2~lucid [OPPGRADER] libdrm-nouveau1 2.4.18-1ubuntu3 - 2.4.20+git20100527.607e228c-0ubuntu0sarvatt2~lucid [OPPGRADER] libdrm-radeon1 2.4.18-1ubuntu3 - 2.4.20+git20100527.607e228c-0ubuntu0sarvatt2~lucid [OPPGRADER] libdrm2 2.4.18-1ubuntu3 - 2.4.20+git20100527.607e228c-0ubuntu0sarvatt2~lucid [OPPGRADER] libx11-data 2:1.3.2-1ubuntu3 - 2:1.3.3+git20100513.fd82552d-0ubuntu0sarvatt~lucid [OPPGRADER] mesa-utils 7.7.1-1ubuntu3 - 7.9.0~git20100520.f4905256-0ubuntu0sarvatt2~lucid [OPPGRADER] xserver-common 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7 - 2:1.8.1+git20100521+server-1.8-branch.a8de0866-0ubuntu0sarvatt~lucid [OPPGRADER] xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7 - 2:1.8.1+git20100521+server-1.8-branch.a8de0866-0ubuntu0sarvatt~lucid [OPPGRADER] xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-3ubuntu5 - 2:2.11.0+git20100527.73111cf2-0ubuntu0sarvatt~lucid [OPPGRADER] xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.15+git20100219+9b4118d-0ubuntu5 - 1:0.0.16+git20100513.4b8f1a08-0ubuntu0sarvatt2~lucid I haven't yet filed a bug report against this issue, since I was not sure whether I need also to update all the other xorg packages. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 473949] Re: Holded 2.4 version prevents graphics driver upgrading
Bump. This issue caused suspend to fail on my Thinkpad T61 and desktop effects wouldn't work either. I upgraded the xserver-xorg-video-intel package and both problems went away. Took me a long time to diagnose this. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- Holded 2.4 version prevents graphics driver upgrading https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/473949 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383754] Re: [X700] chessboard design on Desktop with 9.04
I experience the same 'chessboard' on a system with ATI X700 and can confirm that the error doesn't exist on Intrepid (from which I'm reporting right now). Any fixes? ** Attachment added: lspci http://launchpadlibrarian.net/28209297/lspci.txt -- [X700] chessboard design on Desktop with 9.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/383754 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383754] Re: [X700] chessboard design on Desktop with 9.04
I got some more information: The mouse-pointer (no matter if it is the arrow or a hand) is not affected by the chessboard. It seem like it is hoovering over the chessboard. Every windows that is drawn, is cut / coined by the chessboard. The funny thing is that you can move a windows underneath the chessboard. This way you can see what is drawn and what is not. When switching to tty1-6 (Ctrl + Alt + F1-6) there is no evidence of the chessboard. It seem like this bug is affecting the desktop/windows when they are drawn. -- [X700] chessboard design on Desktop with 9.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/383754 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
