[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1405696] Re: [xorg-edgers] after installation of nvidia-346 the screen is turned off at start of display manager (lightdm, gdm, kdm and xdm)

2015-01-27 Thread benoit
I have the same problem on Ubuntu 14.04 since 27/01/2015. nvidia-346 was
installed and worked perfectly but now, for an unknown reason, the
screen is turned off when lightdm starts. Nevertheless I can hear the
lightdm start sound. I have installed the nvidia-current (nvidia-304)
package. So now, my computer uses its intel graphic card instead of its
nvidia graphic card. When I try to switch to the nvidia card with
nvidia-prime, it fails... I have tried to install newer versions of the
nvidia driver (nvidia-331 and then nvidia-340) but it does not change
anything.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1365695] Re: No longer able to use GUI after update

2015-07-14 Thread benoit
Hi,

I have tried to install the last nvidia-352 from the following ppa
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive to replace nvidia-340. I still have
a black screen with the lightdm music when I start my computer (Asus 64 bits:
ubuntu 14.04: Optimus technology).
The workaround I currently use is to set my computer in sleep mode (Fn+F1 on my
keyboard) and to wake it up just after (Fn+F1 again). Then the screen works
fine with the nvidia card. If it can help...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1721619] [NEW] Mouse ignored by Xorg

2017-10-05 Thread Kristian Benoit
Public bug reported:

Resizing a window with the mouse, the pointer got stuck with the
resizing icon. The cursor was still (visually) moving. I used xev to try
figuring out what Xorg was receiving. Weird, xev was reporting nothing,
not even mouse moves (from what I remember, it is not drawn by
software). I have 2 mice and they where both behaving the same. I switch
to console and cat /dev/input/mice, both mice where working fine. I
tried to find a way to reset (only) the pointer but could not find any,
is there ? Then I killed Xorg witch was restarted automatically and the
pointer was fine.

You should have all the hardware info, but I'm using a mac mini 5,1 and
a magic mouse.

2012-05-16 Thread Benoit THIBAUD
The fix is available only for the quantal version of Ubuntu here :
http://packages.ubuntu.com/fr/quantal/nvidia-current

I don't know why the fix is not proposed for the precise version !

I tried it in Xubuntu 12.04LTS and it works even if it's not built for
that version.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726496] Re: Cannot use Unity or Classic desktop with effects after the latest nvidia+xorg update

2011-04-30 Thread Benoit THIBAUD
This bug affects me too.

To make it work anyway, I desactivated the recommanded nvidia driver and
activate the 173 version instead.

After a reboot, I was in 640x480 so in Ubuntu classic session I went to
nvidia settings clicked on save to xorg.conf and just previewed the
change, launch the xorg.conf : gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and copy
and past the content of the changes proposed and saved the file. After a
logout and a new login, it worked.

My graphic card : Nvidia GeForce 7300 GS.

am also using a docking station and two screens. Will run a few tests
to narrow it down.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 659473] Re: gitk crashes entire X session

2011-03-09 Thread Benoit Grégoire
Ok, test results. Ran on Thinkpar T510 (Optimus graphics). BIOS config
is either Integrated graphics (Intel) or Discrete (Nvidia). The nouveau
open source driver is used for nvidia configurations. This is on latest
natty.

BIOS;  Dock config => Results
1- Integrated Graphics; In dock at boot, single screen => gitk works
2- Integrated Graphics; In dock at boot, two screens => gitk works
3- Discrete Graphics; In dock at boot, two screens => X crashes completely
(back to login screen)
4- Discrete Graphics; In dock only after X starts, two screens configured with
xrandr => X freezes (Image is frozen but cursor still follows mouse movements)
5- Discrete Graphics; In dock at boot, removed from dock after X starts,
reconfigure to single screen with xrandr => X freezes (Image is frozen but
cursor still follows mouse movements)

I've had similar symptoms at other times, but I only identified gitk as
consistently triggering the bug.

In any event, this il definitely:
-Related to multi-screen configurations
-Doesn't occur on i965 driver
-Aparently common to both closed nvidia driver and open nouveau driver.

And I'm really sorry for the flood, I thought apport-collect would
bundle the data in one post...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 513932] Re: [i945gme] Keyboard not working after upgrade to Lucid

2010-04-24 Thread Benoit Grégoire
sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup does NOT work for me. Keyboard
works in grub, but when selecting recovery mode, keyboard is dead at the
recovery console. Trackpad does work however.

Macbook pro gen 2, xorg-edgers.

Effect seems kernel dependent:
2.6.32 (stock lucid) keyboard doesn't work.
2.6.33 (kernel mainline) keyboard works.
2.6.34 (kernel mainline) keyboard doesn't work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 513932] Re: [i945gme] Keyboard not working after upgrade to Lucid

2010-04-01 Thread Benoit Grégoire
This also affects me (using kdm, macbookpro 2.1) and I didn't have
mouseemu installed at all. Installing it made no difference.

Booting in lucid with the karmic kernel and my keyboard works!

It's still not working on a Macbook 1,1. Tested on a lucid installation
and on the daily live cd.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1237904] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort()

2015-10-12 Thread Benoit C. Barret
Found 2 VTs used by Xorg (vt2 & vt7):

:~$ ps -aef |grep dm |grep X
root 1491 1484 4 22:43 tty7 00:00:04 /usr/bin/X vt7 -displayfd 3
-auth /run/user/116/gdm/Xauthority -nolisten tcp -background none -noreset
-keeptty -verbose 3
root 1865 1861 3 22:43 tty2 00:00:02 /usr/bin/X vt2 -displayfd 3
-auth /run/user/1000/gdm/Xauthority -nolisten tcp -background none -noreset
-keeptty -verbose 3

tty7 reserved by gdm (user 116) ;
:~$ id 116
uid=116(gdm) gid=124(gdm) groupes=124(gdm)

I will check with lightdm

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 600116] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup f822dc02

2010-09-22 Thread Benoit des Ligneris
Hello,

Same problem here. I went to suspend in RAM, no dock but an external
monitor plugged via VGA.

When I opened the lid in a new emplacement :
* LVDS went on : mouse pointer is there but nothing else. I waited 5 minutes.
* VGA display : nothing displayed (disclaimer : it was another monitor as I
moved from home to office)

I killed the XServer (ctrl + sys + K).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 375417] Re: inkscape and gimp takes a minute to start when run remotely through X x11 in Jaunty - and inkscape draws slowly

2009-05-14 Thread Benoit St-André
To troubleshoot, either

- try to open inkscape doing "DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0 inkscape" if tcp connections
to X are allowed
- ssh -X y...@localhost , and start inkscape.

You are going to experience the trouble.

I will gladly provide any other information needed to troubleshoot if
you tell me more about it. I joined my lspci from my laptop where I did
one test (but we tested with at least 5 different hardware situations,
including on the laptop of Jon. A Cruz at LGM 2009 :-) .

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 277069] Re: Slow performance with remote X applications (java, firefox/xul, etc.)

2009-05-27 Thread Benoit St-André
Tested Stéphane's libxcb PPA's packages on Jaunty, on two different machines
- thinkpad X41 with Jaunty32bits , with 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller:
Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03)
- HP Pavilion a1610n AMD64x2 on Jaunty 64bits with 00:05.0 VGA compatible
controller: nVidia Corporation C51 [GeForce 6150 LE] (rev a2)

No problem up to now, everything works well both locally and remotely.
