[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise
probably there is also a bug in the NVIDIA driver 96.43.23 installer, everytime I run NVIDIA driver script to compile the driver to upgrade/redo (xorg changes or whatever) , it deletes my installed libvdpau.so.1 I have to uninstall and reinstall libvdpau1 package through apt-get command. It's quite annoying when I want to use mplayer and gmplayer because of this error: $ mplayer mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libvdpau.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory my /var/log/nvidia-installer.log. It shows: $ cat nvidia-installer.log |grep libvdpau - Unable to restore symbolic link /usr/lib/libvdpau.so.1 - libvdpau.so.1.0.0 - Unable to restore symbolic link /usr/lib/vdpau/libvdpau_trace.so.1 - libvdpau_trace.so.1.0.0 (File exists). can somebody file a bug? maybe affect also other nvidia installers, as i read on the net that the code to delete conflicting libvdpau files was added to recent versions of the installer where the package replaces it with its own. That shouldn't have been backported to the legacy driver series, since it doesn't install one. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/948053 Title: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/948053/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise
i hope nvidia96 will be available in ubuntu's repo, everythime they release a new kernel (that is happening more often nowadays) i have to install again the driver; also i receive updates about xorg recently, when i restart, the pc was in a loop at login, so i restart in safe mode, and to solve i removed and installed again the nvidia.run, it said the driver was corrupted by a recent installation and give the error /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so is not a symbolic link. but i was able to reinstall and now it work again as before.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise
who tried the new nvidia96 drivers? im using the new release and i have a little more higher FPS (363 FPS against 235 of nouveau) maybe a faster performance but some visualization problems in firefox, for example in ubuntu forum pages and youtube search field is bit flickering; also in Totem, when i play mp3, the visual effects are shown with a line cutting the field from top right to bottom left. im using nvidia geforce2 mx400 also im using gnome-classic (no effect), because with effect, the frames of the windows arn't visible (with nouveau was working fine) just another question: if i want to uninstall package libgl1-mesa-dri (it give 3D support for nouveau), it ask me to remove also xorg and ubuntu-desktop; should i leave installed, or should i remove from non- graphic mode and then reinstall xorg and ubuntu-desktop? ps: about my comment #121 i managed to set the best resolution for my monitor adding a metamode in nvidia-settings -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/948053 Title: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/948053/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise
installed the new nvidia driver release. (actually, i have still nouveou package installed, but nvidia installer provided to disable the nouveau drivers with a modprobe config file) it works...but with my nvidia geforce2 mx400 and a monitor acer X193HQL, by default it choose the resolution of 1280x800 but is not a pleasure for the eyes...the best resolution for the acer should be 1366x768, but, when i choose the 1360x768 resolution in nvidia xserver settings, the desktop is not full in the monitor, the right part is missing. so i have to choose a way in the middle (1280x800). is it a problem with the driver or with the Xconfig?
