[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 858265] Re: No support for power management
I agree; my bug #1037388 (marked duplicate to this one) describes the same experience. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1105392] Re: Non-native screen resolutions unavailable when using nVidia proprietary
Here's a better thread discussing the problem: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/525287/linux/non-native-resolutions-not-available-in-3xx-drivers-on-8700m-gt/ It appears that nVidia is aware of and has no intention to correct the issue, so a workaround from ubuntu or the xorg folks may be the only solution.. I would just recommend the nouveau driver if it weren't for the overheating issues (#858265). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1105392 Title: Non-native screen resolutions unavailable when using nVidia proprietary To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/1105392/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037388] [NEW] GPU overheats with nouveau (ok with nvidia proprietary)
Public bug reported: I am using kubuntu 12.04 on an HP mini 311, desktop effects disabled. Originally I was using the nouveau driver. For the first couple of weeks I used the machine, it would suddenly and immediately shut down a few times a day, presumably due to overheating. I put the CPU through some heavy load tests which did not result in any problems, but noticed that I most frequently experienced shutdowns when viewing video. I have been monitoring one of the internal temperature sensors "acpi/Thermal_zone/0/Temperature" which was usually around 90C. Since switching to the nvidia proprietary driver (~2 weeks ago), I have had no problems and the temperature is around 65C most of the time. All of this leads me to believe that the nouveau driver was causing the GPU to overheat, but this is still somewhat speculative so I'd be happy to run some tests if needed. Same problem, on Lenovo X60 laptop.
