[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2011-10-18 Thread lessoffensive
Hey Paulo,

That's interesting--perhaps there was a patch applied to the kernel tree
I was using. I'm getting the vanilla sources now and will try again and
post then.

Thanks for the response!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

Thanks so much for the work Seth! I'm unfortunately unable to try it as
I'm running a newer kernel (3.1.0-rc7), which seems to have non trivial
changes to the elantech driver. Do you think this patch is going to go
into the mainline anytime soon? If not, would you be potentially
willing to create a patch for the 3.1 kernel?

Thanks for the attention to this long standing bug, regardless!!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 474421] Re: blank LVDS when using KMS

2009-11-19 Thread lessoffensive
Karmic amd64, Lenovo T400, intel 4500MHD video (i915)

lspci for display:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)

00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)

I also experienced this bug recently, but am working fine again after a
reinstall. It was strange, however, as I reverted the kernel, xserver,
and x video drivers (I was on xorg-edgers) and disabled KMS (and enabled
KMS), but was unable to alleviate myself of this problem. It seemed to
go away on kernel 2.6.31-14 without KMS, but X was still strange
(wouldn't come up on boot).

My system was upgrade from jaunty to the Karmic alphas, then to karmic
final and after two weeks or so (with inconsistent updating/rebooting--
hard to say when/where the problem emerged) I had this problem. I'm
still generally puzzled by the problem, but wonder mnemoc if you had an
xorg.conf file from upgrading and what it had in it. I had used one to
force various driver options/fixes--maybe you have the same and removing
it would fix it? Here's what I had:

Section "Device"
Identifier "intel"
Driver "intel"
Option "HWCursor" "on"
Option "AccelMethod" "UXA"
Option "ForceEnablePipeA" "true"
EndSection

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "DontZap" "False"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "LVDS1"
Option "PreferredMode" "1440x900"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "DVI1"
Option "PreferredMode" "1440x900"
Option "IgnoreEDID"
Modeline "1440x900" 106.5000 1440 1520 1672 1904 900 903 909 934 +HSync
-VSync
EndSection

I hope this is helpful to someone
